Why are King Crimson the only hipster approved prog band?
Why are King Crimson the only hipster approved prog band?
BUT HOW DOES IT WORK?!?!?
>youtube comments
>what is henry cow
They are seldom cheesey and more on the dark side of prog. I believe this is what stops people liking a lot of prog.
Porcupine Tree is pretty dark and hipsters don't like them either
Just that token prog band people namedrop.
>xbox is a god to me
>"dark"
King Crimson's prog phase was like 4 albums long, everything after that is too experimental to be considered just prog
>one out of context quote
Listen to the rest of the album
Because they made Fallen Angel of course
Hipsters like Yes too
Half of modern Yes and KC fanbase is Jojo memers at this point
Those aren’t fans.
At least post the full section.
>X-Box is a god to me
>A finger on the switch
>My mother is a bitch
>My father gave up ever trying to talk to me
>what is RIO and zeuhl
>bipolar disorder can't deal with boredom
Those are for avant teens and mallgoths not hipsters
1. most likely a lot of the acceptance started with kurt cobain praising them, that's a start
2. the group has different incarnations, most notably the 80's one which was still an inventive "new wave" sound and the poppier moments still didn't make the complete leap to AOR like contemporaries.
3. the group's sound itself always a had a dark sinister tone with moments of beauty and humor in between. to some people, the expatriation date appears to be longer than the more beaming positive prog band sounds
because I talk to the wind is a crowd pleaser
Because Kanye sampled them
What’s the difference
>most likely a lot of the acceptance started with kurt cobain praising them, that's a start
citation? i didn't know of cobain liking any prog
>What about Yes?
because prog sucks hard lmao
Too cheesy
Stick to Radiohead and Bon Iver fag
Because they're casuals who are unfamiliar with the Peter Gabriel era of Genesis.
He liked the King Crimson album Red.
cope
Not only liked it. The album was found in the CD player when he an heroed. Starless was probably the last song he heard.
t. Read this in some Robert fripp diary entry
Hipsters would never accept a band whose album starts with "Health food faggot"
i thought that was automatic for the people?
SOURCE
Van der Graaf Generator, Camel and Gentle Giant are a lot more of hipster obscure prog rock bands
Early Genesis tho?
This
Besides, I've basically never seen animeonlies dive into Yes beyond Roundabout and Owner of a Lonely Heart.
KC's animeonlies are way worse, and the official uploads disabled comments because of how forced the "it just works" and "10 seconds" were.
These, and also because of Fripp's association with Eno, Bowie, Talking Heads, and other artists beloved by critics/hipsters/art hoes.
yeah
probably not go check
nope. Can, Faust, Amon Düül II
I'd kill myself too if I had to listen to that shit album
>SOURCE
it was in Fripp's blog some years ago but it may be gone now.
it's on the wikipedia page for red :(
i though cobain was a based prog hater like me :(
Don't be like that, if they like the music, they're a fan
Zeuhl is fucking weird man, even for a guy like me
I love it, but I can't explain why
Zeuhl is my favourite genre to tell people I'm into. It sounds much more interesting than it actually is.
It works
EVEN FOR A GUY LIKE ME
IM A RIK AND MORTY SCHEZUAN SAUCE EPIC MAN AND I FUCKING I FUCKING I LOVE MUSIC AND ALL BUT HOLY SHIT GUYS THIS IS CRAZY EVEN FOR ME THE JOKER THE JOKER FROM THE UPCOMING MOVIE HAHAHAHAHAHA LICK MY BALLS BATMAN LICK MY FUCKING BALLSACK BATMAN AHAHAHAHAHAHA
>hipster
Jesus, people still use this word?
Not trying to dispute those comments are obnoxious, but I got into ITCOTCK, CTTE because of Jojo. Yet to listen to some Genesis, but Red is my current favorite album.
it's been around since the 20s when white kids started listening to Jazz
pink floyd and yes tho
CTTE is great. TftO, Relayer and Going for the One are better though. CTTE is entry level Yes imo.
>Why are King Crimson the only hipster approved prog ban
Because most prog is hair-metal for nerds, and the acts/players associated with it are to a consistently high (and variegated) standard.
>Porcupine Tree is pretty dark and hipsters don't like them either
They're dark, as in the 90s era Radiohead of prog. (It's too slick/vanilla at times; Karnivool rectifies this.)
>unfamiliar with the Peter Gabriel era of Genesis.
The Genesis strain is what happens to Pet Sounds + Hair metal; these acts were aberrations. Prog parasitized the 'high brow' cachet jazz lost (in a particular bracket.)
>Camel and Gentle Giant are a lot more of hipster obscure prog rock bands
Those in particular.
Seriously though it’s not that hard to understand especially now that the anime has visualized it even more. The only difficult part is that the rules and abilities change with literally every encounter as far as I can tell. In a lot of ways KC is a great stand, but consistency and far-sighted writing are not them.
You're wrong. I know hipsters and they have no idea what a "King Crimson" is.
They do love ELO, though.
I grew out of prog a long time ago. KC is the only prog I listen to these days. Its just so childish genre as a whole. KC feels like the only serious one.
Are hipsters still a thing?
Can we even call them hipsters if what they do and enjoy isn't hip anymore?
Probably because of unlike every other prog band they didn't have a "selling out point". They were experimenting even beyond the 70s, and even their most accessible album (Beat) is still experimental by most bands standards.
>All these plebs
>Nobody listened Van Der Graaf Generator
They never were hip, the arrogance is the substance of the stereotype
It's the vocals that turn people away. And rightfully so, they are god awful (Geddy Lee and Jon Anderson in particular are horrible).
faggot
>the only
dude, just no
maybe the most blantant but not the only
youve got Yes, youve got Zappa, youve got ELO, you are full of shit
SEETHE
They would die during Heart Of The Sunrise. I will never forget the first time I played the song for my fiance, she made me turn it off because it gave her a headache
VdGG is amazing. Every album from Least we can to - Still Life is amazing.
Where are all these hipster prog fans? I am the only one I know personally who actively listens to and explores prog rock/metal
