I picture "rock star" as someone that does their music and genuinely doesn't give a shit or speaks their mind. That will never happen again. Back in the 90s and early 2000s it was possible because talking against the norm was fine. Nowadays the norm of society (especially on the internet) will get an act cancelled before their first album even comes out.
Part of the fun of rock stars is they can be dicks and do their thing all in the name of fun. That can't happen anymore.

It is so much cheaper and easier to sell invidual artists performing to a 100% computer made background track that there is very little monetary incentive to push rock bands. Also the target audience is no longer white middle class with disposable income, but mudpeople who listen all their music from YouTube. They don't care for rock music.

My problem with any rock bands that are actually achieving success at a higher level right now is literally all of them are just inferior versions of bands from the 70s, sometimes not even with better audio quality. I do love some rock bands right now but they’re mostly just bands with guitars and produce stuff that’s pretty hard to actually classify as rock in the conventional sense

Rock bands are expensive. Lots of gear and mouths to feed, and economically it just isn't as feasible to tour without a large audience. I think this was a big contribution to the decline of rock this decade. Also, wokescold journalists are the gatekeepers now.
