it's good

it's shit

i think they're improvising

It's Coltrane expressing his spirituality through free jazz. Pretty straightforward really.

its.... an album

Hes black

it signifies the lack of reality and loss of importance of the self. if you believe communism capitalism god etc or if you are living to get a new car or for the tv show you gonna watch tomorrow dont listen to that record. you cant appereciate it or you gonna just pretend due to its popularity.

basically its a black guy sitting on a stool holding some kind of wind instrument idk in front of a white background, also there's text in the corner that says "stereo" and below it "ascension john coltrane"

And you guys actually shit on reddit as if this is the superior place to discuss music

You should find peace in dissonance

We are to assume Reddit could provide a better answer to OP?

well, these guys pretty much covered it all.

anything else, op?

i'm here to shitpost. gb2 /plebbit/ for your "music" ""discussion"" you faglord

this

Very experimental music. A hard listen for sure but not entirely impossible to get into. It's better to start with earlier stuff if you're new to Coltrane's music. I recommend My favorite things > Giant steps > Live at Village Vanguard > Crescent > A Love Supreme > Kulu se Mama > then stuff like this. If you're into imperfect music and don't mind hearing things that sound "wrong", then you might like Ascension. Works as rpg background music.

ok, op. that's it then.

>Very experimental
in what specific ways? What ideas on the albums were 'experiments' and not already recognized practices in jazz composition?

So do you guys prefer II or I, and why?

theres two?

They used to put special forces units in a hot, cramped box and blasted this album on repeat to see if they could handle it.
I know this sounds crazy... but I've actually seen the documentation for it.

this music makes you strong

Tell the failed normie who told you to check this place out to fuck off and never come back.
