How can I get back into rock? I grew up with my dad playing Jimi Hendrix, Yes, Wings, and Stevie Ray Vaughn when I was growing up. Now, I mainly listen to hip hop and electronic music. As a black guy, I kinda wanna listen to more rock and stuff, but I'm a very impatient person and most songs feel a little drawn out.

well, there are a lot of different sub-genres of rock. are there any specific sub-genres you're interested in trying?

Peter Brotzmann - Machine Gun

I really like alternative rock bands like Ween, and I like a bit of Weezer, but I wanna try a bit of the """artiser""" stuff I see posted a lot.

This is a masterpiece.

Thank you, I'll check that one out.

Should have posted this sooner, but here's the rock albums I like.

The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground
Ask Questions Later - Cop Shoot Cop
Frizzle Fry - Primus

Listen to funk, krautrock, and then transition to rock.

The Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, Animal Collective, The Beatles, David Bowie, MGMT, these are the easier more artsy artists to get into. Then there are more psychedelic and post-rock bands like Pink Floyd and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, but like you said, they're more drawn out and a hard transition from Hip Hop.

go for some rap rock with rage against the machines or Denzel Curry and try to transition.

Oh, I like rage against the machine. I like a bit of rap rock too.
That's probably a good idea.

Don't know if this counts but I'd just say go for it man, if you can just push yourself a bit, I don't know if that can help but these are my two cents on that topic.

Yes, I'll definitely try. Just looking for a good place to start. Thank you.

No problem mate.

If you like raw shit go for classic punk albums.

I got into underground hip hop after being a big fan of bands like Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, The Stooges, etc

If you want more "Artsy" rock, start with Prince, Bowie, The Beatles, early Sabbath, The Doors for the classics.

If you like emotional softer stuff, try The National, Foxing, At the Drive In, etc.

If you want rap rock type stuff, Rage against the Machine, the first two Limp Bizkit albums, Korn, Denzel Curry, Suicide boys, etc

My top 5 "guitar music" albums

>Goo by Sonic Youth
>In Uetro by Nirvana
>Nola by Down
>Yes - Self Titled
>Black Flag - Slip it In

My dad loves Prince, can't believe I forgot to mention him. But yeah, I like Black Flag, 3 Suicide Boys songs and Denzel Curry.

dont recommend limp bizkit and korn jesus

he already said he likes the clash

Try Richard Hell- Blank Generation. Short, catchy, ADHD songs that are a shitton of fun. The title track and the first 3 are the best imo.
