Here you go
Oh and it's "vinyl" by the way, no "s".
Or just say "records".
Fag.
>vinyls
by dropping the s when you pluralize vinyl so you don't sound like a retard.
if you actually care about sound quality, listen to CDs instead.
I'm autistic and I collect vinyl
Keep an eye out for these, they're pretty rare.
You're a funny guy.
if by funny you mean correct and holding an opinion shared by most sound engineers, then sure.
>Chuck Mangione

keeps getting funnier
The correct plural of vinyl is vinyiis.
>vinyl
>true autist
Go back to whatever subreddit you came from, faggot.
>having deluded yourself into thinking your shitty "nostalgic" medium that gets overrun with surface noise after ten plays actually has better sound quality
He is correct. CDs technically sound better than records. Though records can last way longer than CDs, which can give off that illusion of records being better than CDs since a well kept record will be in better condition than a CD that is treated just as well.
little early in the morning to be drinking this heavily isnt it?
When it comes to buying vinyl I recommend going to your local music stores. They're usually pretty nice there, and tend to offer some form of return policy for used vinyl that skip. They will also have plenty of used ones for cheap that still sound perfectly fine. I've gotten three great sounding vinyl for $10, the most expensive one being $4.50.
never too early to be entirely correct
>entirely drunk
I think you need a glass of water and a sandwich
Do people actually buy vinyl for "muh sound" ? The only reason I started picking up records is because I couldn't pass up on stuff that didn't get released on CD.
hope youre ready to sell your kidney, maybe a piece of liver too?
Some people do.
I buy them because I manage to get a decent player for free, and they're easier to care take off.
I wonder how many people actually bought a crosley because of this meme
*to take care of
Don't know what happened there lol
I think it's actually not that bad if you're a complete beginner.
Fight me.
t.complete beginner
am I retarded for buying LPs that came out after digital recording became popular? are the "analog" recordings of today actually digital? how do I tell? am I retared?
some are, some arent. do some reading. People like Neil Young and Dave Grohl do all of their recording on tape. Of course deadmou5 is not going to.
the easiest way to tell if you are retarded is if you have to ask about being retarded on a cambodian goat herding forum
What’s a good record player to buy?
AT LP60 is what I have, gets the job done well.
Just stream and save your money. No one actually thinks it’s cool.
What's your budget and what speakers/amp are you using?
don't they literally ruin your records over time?
memed
Technics SL-D2
Sony PS-T22
Two of the best, late model direct drives made until the late 80s that are very affordable and easy to maintain. You'll need a phone preamp.
Explain
the LP60 is a meme table, one tiny step up from a crossely
its not adjustable enough, cant be upgraded and has an abysmal failure rate
I inherited this from my great grandpa.
amazon.com
Does anyone know if it's good just as a record player?
Yes.
That's a rebranded Crowley, bruh.
And?
As a record player, sure.
As a turntable for a decent stereo system, no.
It's a noisy table with a low quality cartridge.
It's awful.
How high are the chances of this hurting my records? I figured this was a meh record player from the start, and my plan was to use this until I save up enough for a better one. But if the chances of this hurting my records are high I wouldn't use it.
Depends on the quality of your records. If they are pristine or well looked after, it will do damage.
The cartridge has a heavy tracking weight and low compliance...meaning the stylus does not move easily with the higher frequencies and will mistrack (distortion) and wear down that part of the groove. After many playings the sound will be "dead".
Thanks for the info.
lol its so true. im a vinyl guy thou
Welcome.
One other piece of advise is to never play an album or a track more than once per day even on a good table. The stylus distorts the groove as it passes. Vinyl has a memory and will return to original with time. Repeated playings over a short term cause permanent damage. If you like a song, digitize it and play that.
Thanks for the advice, that's actually a really good thing to know. That's a problem that never would of even crossed my mind.
I’m sure you’ll stop after a few cheap purchases but if you’re serious, save up for a decent turntable and sound system. Find a pawn shop near you and look for decent speaks, I got a nice pair of Bose speakers for $40, basically brand new, and two smaller Bose surround sound speakers for like $20.
>friend does this all the time
>he also never cleaned his records until last year when I told him he should
>he doesn't clean properly, shoves records back into sleeves before they dry
>pinches records on the outer grooves, fingerprints everything
>pretty sure his tracking weight is too heavy also, new records will show signs of wear even if he only spun them once
It's a fucking nightmare
Any suggestions for a decent turn table?
Nightmare indeed!
He probably also has never changed his stylus.
That will do more damage on first play than just about anything else with the exception of taping coins onto the tone arm for "better tracking".
Depends on your budget and the system you intend it for.
Buying used is fine but replace the stylus, or better the cartridge, and take the time to set it up (tracking weight and overhang) properly.
He did after I got on his ass about it. He still abuses all of his equipment and has shit hearing, so I've given up on helping him upgrade / tune his system.
Off the top of my head :
>Audio Technica ATLP5
>U-turn custom TT
>Fluance RT series, (82 and up) the RT85 being one of the best bang for your buck options out there right now
>Project Debut Carbon
If price is an object then try vintage. You will have to change the stylus and eventually may have to make repairs unless its been serviced already.
All worthy
desu if price is an object then this bottomless money pit may not be the hobby for you
Opinions on my Hitachi dpk 311?
The belt needs replacing but I'm not sure if I'm just better off getting a new player.
that thing is kinda accidentally cool user
belts are cheapass, how does it sound?
Life has surface noise.
Don't buy an ATLP60. I had one and it sounded like ass, and it bored down really hard on my records.
If it has sentimental value or you like the sound then replace the belt and stylus (which is still available).
The problem is the recommended tracking is 5 - 8 grams so the cartridge is of poor quality and very old with weakened magnets.
The other issue is the platter bearings. They will likely be noisy and replacements may not be available.
>accidentally cool
I assume this was supposed to be "actually"
It's been a while since I've used it but it generally sounded alright if a little hissy at times and struggled to play at low volumes but I don't know how to properly maintain it and no-one local provides a service.
I've also strugggled to find compatible belts online so could possible be a different issue.
The inner wheel doesn't quite reach the metal pole that spins the turntable. Might be a new spring that's needed or a wheel. I'll post pics when 'i get home.
that's why i listen to music
no my dude, I meant accidentally cool. dont take it badly though.
if it needs that much attention it might be best to sell it on ebay. unless you are emotionally attached to it or can do the work yourself
Ok, not sure what that means then. Like serendipity?
Here's the problem part.
It doesn't have any real sentimental value. I just saw it in a charity shop one day and thought it looked cool as I was into the retro look.
If I were to replace it, I'd want one with a more mechanical/industrial feel
technics sl1200
Anyone know where I could get turntables looked at? My dad gave me his Technics SL1600 and 1700's and told me that they don't work anymore and it might have something to do with the magnets. I have no idea how to work on this stuff.
That's an idler drive not a belt drive. It really is not worth rebuilding. They are noisy and uneven when new then get worse with age.
My honest opinion is to just use it as an ornament which sounds like why you bought it.
If you know any audiophiles ask them otherwise look or post in a local Kijiji or Craigslist for vintage equipment restorers.
really depends on where you are user. I know a couple places here in toronto
is there a good vinyl shop near you? usually they will know who is good locally
