How do I stop myself from making my music in the same key all the time?
How do I stop myself from making my music in the same key all the time?
listen to music in different keys
there's literally nothing wrong with that. in fact it's how a lot of bands give themselves a voice.
what even is a key
seems like made up music mumbo jumbo
But I get bored when I listen to albums with songs all in the same key
Add key modulations to your compositions
Just remove it from your keyboard
There isn't a whole lot wrong with that. A lot of my favorite music is in E dorian. There is a lot you can do with it but even a basic i9 - IV13 can create a killer groove.
Start using different keys.
Bumping because I saw anime in the OP

Does music have to be in key to sound good? Can I just play random notes and hope it sounds good?
depends on who you're asking
If it sounds good then it sounds good
dilate
>what is atonal music
>what is sound good
looked up dorian mode and saw this
If your playing music and it sounds good, your probably playing in key
Force yourself to play in different keys; play the same thing in different keys until you find which sounds best. It's easiest with a keyboard or synth in a DAW that lets you transpose up or down several semitones. If its on guitar than it's not quite as straightforward unless using a capo, though it's worth learning how to play in different keys anyway to master the instrument. For me I stopped playing everything in E and A on guitar just by learning more songs that were in different keys. I found that playing in B, C#, D, F#, and G is more or less just as easy on guitar from a rock/metal standpoint as sticking to the two lowest open strings.
Random notes will sound awful unless there is a point to them. Chromatic notes are used a lot as passing outside notes in jazz and blues for example where you don't linger on those notes but they segway between notes that are in key. Learn some scales, it really helps to write music. I find modes in particular are the single most powerful compositional tools available.
Kek but atonal music isn't supposed to sound good, it's supposed to create more of an atmosphere
them white and black things on a peeanoh
