Somehow he manages to cram a ton of frivolous bullshit into these little pop covers, and it always totally derails the piece. He turns pop music into soulless academic exercises that are more concerned with flexing theory than actually making a decent tune, which is what theory ought to be about anyway. His knowledge of theory is not the problem; it's his indulgence in theory for its own sake. This guy has a habit of letting his pretension get in the way of the music itself; if he ever outgrows that he could do something great, but we'll just have to see.

These are really fun though as a musician. It's fucking worthless to put in a song unless it adds an emotional characteristic. Polyrhythms, polyphony, serialism and other academic-type composition devices are fun to play around with. Releasing an album with stuff like that on it pure dick measuring and posturing though, unless it's important to give the song a certain feeling. This faggot thinks of the idea's first and the emotions second; it results in music which is, dare I say, emotionally dishonest.
