What does it sound like to you?

are you low iq?

It's bananacore.

read the beats and watch marlon brando films, you pleb

It's the beginning of noise rock and different experimentations and uses of distortion, listening to it now without context it doesn't necessarily sound amazing but it's all about many of the intricacies of the songs that ended up being extremely influential, white light/white heat is better imo if you want some other velvet underground

Sounds like boring pop-rock with nonsensical abrasive bits thrown in at bad times. Venus in furs was my favorite track but still doesn't feel like it's going anywhere. I don't really see Cale's influence other than strings being present in certain places.

Get back to Radiohead, this is not for you

gay voice

Oh shut up you faggot. I listen to mainly experimental, inaccessible music, and everyone says all that started with this shitty dated pop-rock album. What I want is for someone to actually talk about what makes this music great, not more up-their-own-ass retarded boomer niggers like you to tell me I "just don't get it"

Banana. Warhol. Lou Reed. Get it now?

>invents dream pop

heh...nothin personal kid

retarded clon begone

It sounds unique, and is very melancholic and sleepy and cozy, but cold at the same time. It's what I imagine to be high on heroin. Idk it's just a very unique album for 1967 or 1969 (don't remember)
It's bittersweet, and sounds pleasant. Lyrics is ironic and fun

>invents avant-garde
kek

OK so this is all just some meme where I discredit an entire genre by saying it sounds the tiniest bit like a bunch of drug addicted queers in the 60s, got it

heroin is one of the greatest songs ever written

It is literally the Goat album

Based bait

> I listen to mainly experimental, inaccessible music

what kind of "experimental, inaccessible music"? Kid A? lol

Done with this thread, I've lost any interest in ever revisiting this album and any respect for those that rate it highly. Thanks for clearing this up guys.

It's not that complicated. The songs are about having parties, seeing girls on the street, waiting for drug dealers, and prostitutes. During the sixties popular music were love songs and simple melodies. This album was supposed to represent part of reality that wasn't being reflected in popular culture.

Cringe lol

>DUDE ADDICTION HAS A SLEAZY GLAMOUR TO IT
imagine missing the point of the song this hard

Heroin is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. The instrumentation and lyrics are perfectly able to convey the experience of addiction, one of the greatest human problems of the last century, and something pretty much never talked about at the time.

>This album was supposed to represent part of reality that wasn't being reflected in popular culture.
That's it? You really think that never crossed my mind?
You could say this about those all-female remakes of popular movies, or about POC's being cast as white characters. Just cause something isn't being represented doesn't mean it's automatically good when it finally does get represented. Me taking a hot, wet shit is "part of reality" but I wouldn't write songs about it.

Lol.

WL/WH is better

you’re fucking braindead

more denial.

Why can't you understand that people like good lyricism, unique and groundbreaking instrumentation and great songwriting?

I can understand liking it, but people hail it as one of the greatest of all time. Many rock critics/fans consider the album to be high art. In 2019, where I can listen to not only this album but also practically any other music anyone else ever recorded whenever I want, and when it's clearly no longer "groundbreaking" or "unique", why would I still fucking bother?

It's really sad to someone's grasp of reality erode because of their attachment to ideology

I'm very left-leaning but you have to admit Ghostbusters and the new Little Mermaid look like garbage.

Listen, its all a big fucking circlejerk. Everyone rates it for the implications of the album and not much for the raw actual quality of the music. Its the exact same why the Wimbledon 2008 final between Nadal and Federer is unanimously regarded as the greatest tennis match ever when there has been a lot of matches of much higher quality of play. All circlejerk.

i dont understand the banana.

monkey

it's just Warhol being pretentious. The only significance is that it looks like a dick

OP you actually do sound like a fucking major loser, it's fine that you don't like it but your replies highlight that you really are just a child. Grow up.

The only "bad" part about this album is Nico's terrible voice and accent. It sounds worse because I'm German myself and I hate the German-English accent.

You don't understand bubblegum pop?

You’ve earned my respect in an unexpected way.

Best Fugs rip off EVAH!

Really going at my pal there eh? really gonna try the Radiohead shit again. How’s about you get outta here, pal?

I’d listen to your shit song please write it please

Holy shit please talk about Tennis some more. I could listen to you all day I’m being genuine please please don’t think I’m laughing at you. I’m just a tiny bit tripping right now. It’s nice to read about what people think about specific tennis matches because at least it shows that some people still have passion and work for their hobbies or things they are passionate about. I’m sorry if you thought I was mean I want to read more of what there is to tennis

Shit I’m sorry I killed the thread maybe I should stop posting in all these threads so sorry

It's ok i forgive u

Hey it's okay I like you :)

>invents dream pop
there's probably a brill building song with too much of a wall of sound sometime before

or you can... look up garage rock
>invents shoegaze
It's a stretch to say any one band from the 60s lead to shoegaze, TVUN wasn't the only band to use distortion
>invents tweepop
oddly enough yeah
>invents avant-garde
wait this is b8, I've wasted my time

People always bring up how influential it is and shit which is also cool but to me it's just a solid fucking album and I haven't found any others that satisfy the itch I get for music like this in the same way. it's fine to not like something but don't think that everyone who likes this album just says so to be cool. I literally listen to it weekly and donno what i'd do without it

youtube.com/watch?v=fND_Y6OgsDs
Reminder that apart from literally inventing indie twee pop, NOBODY had ever played something even resembling this guitar solo before, not Beefheart, not Zappa, nobody
youtube.com/watch?v=fEWkHAIQ3gs

the problem with a lot of supposedly classic albums is they don't feel significantly different from modern music everyone has heard. the velvet underground had a sound that actually sounds formative, sounds retro, and like some kind of building block to the next thing. the way vaporwave sounds way more like a real movement than something like "edm" (2010 - 2015) did because "edm" (2010 - 2015) was more of an ending point than a starting point. the best part of vaporwave is it makes you wonder what could come next and the vu did the same

bumping this retarded thread Looool

this but unironically

i think the moment it really clicked for me is on "All Tomorrow's Parties" when Nico sang the line
>"And where will she go and what shall she do"
such an exquisite moment- then all the rest of the songs started to fall into place and I really started to understand the album's brilliance. i think it's about these outsiders who are just talking about their lives with this poetic simplicity. the music is so other-worldly but it's also so inviting

i liked it

It grows on you. You just have to finally ignore the fans and those who call it the mother of art or some shit

imagine getting filtered by banana

Imagine having to get art explained to you instead of forming your own subjective opinion

It's a phallic symbol

it represents lou reed's ding dong

This like TVU&N but done well. They even got some Space and Drone on this. Pretty cool stuff, I don't know why this album is so underrated. Any serious music listener would know this is a Rock masterpiece.

also Oh' Sweet Nothing>everything on TVU&N

Nice reply. What brill building song you are talking about?

Shut up retard.
