The album that turned distortion into an art

all noise and no melody, sounds like shittier smashing pumpkins

The Velvet Underground

amen
album is so noisy but even more dreamy

Based retard. Probably a burger

>no melody
I get When You Sleep stuck in my head all the fucking time. It's so catchy.

>all noise and no melody
did you even have the volume above 6 percent

Have ears

then have sex

got that right
yeah ive messed around with different volumes because i listen to a lot of noise music and that usually helps, but no help even then

That's Metal Machine Music, my fella.

> bog-standart repetitive pop music with guitar pedals
> art
yeah try again

It's weird for easy it is to fall asleep to Loveless. An album this heavy sounding shouldn't feel so calming.

OP here, made a mistake

But it's not heavy sounding, it's soft layers of noise shrouding gentle melodies, that contribute to a peaceful atmosphere.

pleb.

Distorted sound is noise.
All music is noise.

Fact but it was massively one-upped here

Jazz was doing it way more though before them.
Charlie parker was noisy as fuck and he screwed with the sound of his instruments like many jazz musicians did to give it distortion.

Then distorted guitars emerged in the 60's.
Then there was Jimmy Hendrix and Jimmy Page who turned distortion to the next level. Both deliberately fucked the sound up to make it sound "naughty" and then they developed a more melodic "accident" in their tunes. That's arguably the start of what became shoegaze. Page and Hendrics deliberately explored the harmony between distortion and melody. The abrasiveness became fundamental to sound after them.

Cocteau Twins really took the pedal things to extremes without developing the noise aspect of it.
Then along came MBV who just went that bit further.

i used to think sister was the best but daydream nation is just so fucking good. sonic youth is truly a genius band

sister is still better than daydream nation

This album is alright. Just alright. I duno why people lose their shit over it. But its not bad.

The best is Goo...

Seriously now, there is no reason for hating Goo, it's just a smaller version of Daydream Nation

gay

I recognise its importance in the overall musical landscape but it sounds like washed out noise to me. Souvlaki > the other 2 from the big three shoegaze records

Pitchfork tier 10.0 onion boy album. The rest of the world think its boring AF

I remember how blown away everyone was when my bloody valentine came out with this album and unleashed distortion into the world. Music has never been the same.

other than the fact that every song on it is extremely forgettable and half the album is boring, I'd say you have a point

came here to post this
but then this distilled it into pure catharsis

nah it's either EVOL or A Thousand Leaves my dude

i listen to it with my gf on the train

> no melody

Its probably the most melodic album ever made you idiot

This album is the ultimate pleb filter.
