Peeps truly love it, as do I, but one, it took me a long time to get into it, and two, to me, I see weaknesses in it. I dig that Brian wanted to create a sort of song cycle about the relationship of a man and a woman. The ups and downs, the gain and loss. So, he had to have a "down" song. But "Don't Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder)" is such a buzzkill dirge that it's a most unwelcome guest to the party. Knowing how Capitol treated Brian, I'm surprised they didn't say, "Hey Bri! We're gonna pull "Don't Talk" off the record and replace it with "The Little Girl I Once Knew." On second thought, Capitol would've wanted to use "409." Could you imagine "409" on Pet Sounds? Brian would've killed himself in 1966.
