I guess I would question you on what you think makes him a bad artist. I think his biggest flaw is curation ie having sections in a song that come out of left field or feel unwarranted.
Some of the songs on his new record are pretty tasteful in that respect though so it looks like he's maturing a bit.
I'm just hoping that he continues to learn how to hold back and tighten up his craft to be more consistent

That's cool and all, I hope he's happy and fulfilled and he seems to enjoy doing the music that he does. Plenty of other people like it too. But it just doesn't really have soul. It's the same problem as with a lot of bad jazz and prog and stuff. Wow cool you can play a chord with a diminished minor 7th tonic root or whatever, you can spend 10 minutes noodling round on your instrument in a very technical impressive way. But it's just noise. Music is an art and a science. Something like ITAOTS isn't technically impressive but it has a lot of heart behind it. Opposite is true with Jacob. Most people enjoy the artistic side of music, stuff that conjures feelings and emotions and resonates with you. Not technically impressive 10 minute wank fests that assault you with noise.

he is talented, yes but he takes the longstanding jazz tradition of adding almost any diatonic note to a harmony (the rules regarding which having relaxed over time) to the utmost extreme to the extent that what might have been a nice melody or progression ends up sounding like sixteen Fanta commercials playing at once. Ultimately it's far too saccharine and dense for the average listener accustomed to conventional pop/rock

He become so extremely proficient when it comes to editing songs on Mac that he will never achieve the same impact when playing live. I'm not even saying his music is good, because some of his tunes are absolute cringe, but the production level is top notch.
