I'm 34. I've listened to all of the albums on the Yea Forumscore list out there and I'm re-listening to FEAR INOCOLUM for the umpteenth time (realistically, I'd say I've listened to it at least 100 times) and I just have not found that many other albums to match it artistically. It is just so inspired throughout the entire thing. It bothers me that folks would write it off as "metal" or "hard rock" and only consider it good in those categories. I've found a LOT of "metal" and "hard rock" to be very subpar and many people in those bands let the loud volume account for what they lack in talent. TOOL is unlike any other band on the planet and their scarcity, limited material and mystery make them all the more appealing to a world that gets EVERYTHING IT WANTS RIGHT NOW (DAMNIT!). TOOL fans wait and wait for more material ... and the reason why is their existing material is so amazing - especially FEAR INOCOLUM.

I know what I am saying has been said a million times before, but it just seems like everytime I read about TOOL in a major publication they write them off as a fringe band. I know MJK does not give an F about all this ... I'm just sad they don't get the respect they deserve on those best of lists. The Yea Forumscore list is filled with awesome stuff - no denying that - but FEAR INOCOLUM deserves to be on that list.

but why

the real tool album

I'm currently in the stage where I'm giving your dad a golden shower.

you sound angry. does it have anything to do with your favorite band's comeback album being total garbage?

Tool isn't even in my Top 20 bud. But I do like the album. And I do like urinating in your daddy's mouth.

I-IT CLICKED, GUISE. T-T-TOOL IS B-B-B-BASED. ALBUM OF THE Y-Y-Y-Y-Y-YEAR

SOUND THE DREAD ALARM

>excited for the new release
>it comes out
>listen to it
>realize it sucks
>realize all of their music has sucked all along

WOAH

underrated: Pneuma
overrated: 7empest
best song: Culling Voices

0/3

Yeah, it did suck though. I really can't remember a single fucking note. Some other guy described it as an ostinato, and I'm inclined to agree.

This album is underwhelming. The songs feel like long build ups to nothing.People are just caught up in the hype of a new tool album and don't want to admit that they waited so long for a "meh" album.

well better luck next time.

Or maybe, some people have different opinions to you.

>4/10
Nice cringe

>Dude this movie SUCKED where are the explosions?!?

what took you so long? I used to like them, but since like ten years I can only listen to The Pot, and even that is not that easy. They suck bad

My favorite band is GSYBE and this new
Tool album is boring and uneventful.

is this bait?

Nope

You know, the album isn’t bad. It’s good. It’s just not this insane, mind-blowing thing we all built it up to be. I mean sure, you can be hyped about an album, but don’t expect it to completely change your world. I liked it, but do I feel underwhelmed? Yes. It’s middle of the pack Tool, not their best, not their worst.

People don't realize a lot of artists are reworking old material. Maybe artists like Neil Young are writing new things each album but even bands that seem prolific, like the talking heads, tend to have a majority of their work already written in the first few years of playing together.

well shit lad congrats on owning it, I guess. Imagine having that band as your favourite band, the band whose entire gimmick is slowly building up to climaxes. And then complaining another band doesn't do the same thing your favourite band does! Having the plebbiest taste in history. Let me guess, Steve Albini is you favourite producer, the AC30 is the ultimate amp.

>Fear Inoculum:
First Half: 8/10
Second Half: 6/10
Overall: 5/10 Doesn't gel well together
>Pneuma:
4/10, Derivative, dull chorus
>Invincible:
First Half: 9/10
Second Half 2/10
Overall: 6/10, second half really doesn't do the first justice
>Descending:
7/10, some erroneous production faults on the guitar solo's
>Culling Voices:
6/10, has all the ingredients for a better song were it half as long
>Chocolate Chip Trip:
8/10
>7empest:
4/10, doesn't become good until the 11th minute

Pretty disappointing overall bros

It seems pretty decent to me. It's way too long, like every Tool album, but it's not noticably weaker than any of thier others

>final score of a track is smaller than both halves.

For me, it's standing:
>10K Days > FI > Lateralus≥Aenima>Undertow

Their first 3 albums are all a lil overrated, IMO, too. Especially disappointing after Aenima starts with 2 of their best tracks!

it grew on me after my 3rd listen

i only like 7empests opening

Underrated: 7empest
Overrated: Pneuma
Best song: Descending

first listen was on acid. I thought it was fantastic. Going over it sober, I still like it a lot. This is probably Adam Jones' most interesting work since Aenima, with the overlapping guitars and interesting layering in production. Upon first listen, Pneuma struck me as reminiscent of krautrock, so CTT was a satisfying treat. If you like tool and you like the repetitive rhythmic nature of krautrock, its pretty enjoyable. Its just the motorik is closer to the pistons in a combustion engine than the straight 4/4 employed by Can and Neu. However, like those bands, FI is pretty contained dynamically compared to their other records, so it lacks some of the explosive breakthrough feeling of songs like The Patient or Rosetta Stoned. Maynard is a cunt, as always, but a very competent one. His lyrics kinda suck here though. Bonus points for making genuinely interesting filler tracks this time around.

>Lateralus>Aenima>10k days=FI>Undertow

Attached: hPgnsPf.jpg (1200x1600, 117K)

best thing 7empest has goin for it is the tech guitar around the 7 minute mark, wish there was more of that throughout

Pneuma might be the best song they have ever made

The new album is regurgitated crap. It's like they cut parts out of their songs on 10,000 days and Lateralus and spliced together. At least there's not another 20 minute song of Maynard's mommy.

This

>genuinely interesting filler tracks this time around
huh
the consensus seems to be that the segues are the worst on this album

It sounds like a Tool album. If you expected something other than that, then dumbass on you.

Here is a list of 2010s guitar bands/artists that released a better album than this overlong, chugga chugga, no variety, outdated piece of shit:
>Swans
>Gravetemple
>Oxbow
>Nazoranai
>Anna von Hausswolff
>Ishraqiyun
>Zs
>Oren Ambarchi
>Death Blues
>Stabscotch
>Föllakzoid
>Beak>
>Liars
>Scott Walker
>The Young Gods
>Lost Crowns
>Pyrrhon
>Alameda 5
Even fucking NIN released better things than this bullshit.
You're welcome. Lurk more Tool plebs and stop listening to a musical equivalent of Hot Pockets.

This album is a compilation of their worst songs, so nah.
