oh probably because it sucks

groove metal is the metal equivalent of bands like nickelbakc, papa roach etc.

It's always been as popular as it ever needed to be.

that makes absolutely no sense

more like butt metal

Because:
Half of the bands in the 90's started as Pantera copycats (Yeah, I'm aware of the whole Exhorder stuff), mid 90's most of them either disbanded or went full nu-metal. Starting 2000's, Pantera disbands and groove metal devolves into basically Metalcore. The genre hasn't evolved in almost 20 years, that's exactly why it isn't popular, I dare any of you to post any good groove metal record from post 2000s

Its a genre with only one good band in it and its Pantera

astro-creep 2000 by white zombie is an alright album

white zombie = rob zombie = absolute worthless trash

It died with Dimebag

If groove metal is the best subgenre then why do people only give a shit about Pantera?

because

>Its a genre with only one good band in it and its Pantera
Yeah, Morbid Angel went halfway there with Domination but it turned out to be pretty weak for a MA album. Dimebag was the only guy that could make it work.

how do i get into pantera

you listen to their music, and if you like it, you're "into" them. Vulgar Display of Power is widely regarded to be one of their best albums, although Cowboys from Hell is also notable for being their first proper departure from hair metal into their own sound, and Far Beyond Driven is also a personal favourite of mine.
If you listen to those 3 albums and you're still not into them, give up. Their later work is seen as mostly supplementary, even if it does include absolute bangers like these

youtube.com/watch?v=_XI1DD_vJuY

>Great Southern Trendkill
>supplementary

how pleb

There are only 3 true groove metal bands. One sucks, one's dead, and one is Machine Head

Aren't we all plebs for not considering I Am the Night to be essential Pantera listening?
Also I linked Drag the Waters in my post. I def listened to The Great Southern Trendkill, I just don't see it namedropped nearly as much as Vulgar.

>one sucks
>one is Machine Head
those are the same band.
I'd sooner cite Lamb of God's As the Palaces Burn, and Ashes of the Wake, as good groove metal than any of MH's output.

groove metal is literally the buttrock of extreme metal, but I do love Sepultura/Soulfly and White Zombie, as well as some songs by Prong and Lamb of God. I don't really consider Gojira groove but I guess some people do, and they have some great stuff.

>groove metal is literally the buttrock of extreme metal
I think of groove as distinctly 90's without fitting the other 90's scenes (grunge/sludge, industrial/ndh, & nu-metal).
I think that's why Pantera stands out so much, because they're the only band who maintained their sound outside the others. their contemporaries and other bands they influenced were always "groove plus" some other genre, not pure groove, but groove & nu-metal, or groove & death metal.
Gojira are a fuckin fantastic band but I've always considered them technical death metal before groove metal.

Let's see:
>Pantera
disbanded and dead, everything after CFH was pretty good and standar-setting
>Exhorder
more thrash than groove, you can definitevly hear why they compare it to Pantera, a shame they never got bigger
>Prong
massivelly underrated, Cleansing is a classic
>Sepultura
one of the only other groove bands who had an identity, although based on brazilian shit, later went nu-metal
>Machine Head
started as a Pantera clone, then nu-metal, then cuck metal, only first 2 albums are listenable, depending on your tastes maybe also TTAOE onward, last 2 records still sucked
>Fear Factory
meh, more industrial and nu-metal than anything else, listenable, also forgetable
>White Zombie/Rob Zombie
good blend of industrial/groove
>Black Label Society
kinda more heavy than groove metal, still good
>Fight
Rob Halford just jumped on the bandwagon, listenable
>Chimaira
more metalcore, still listenable
>Lamb of God
also started as hardcore, then got into groove, listenable
>Soulfly
kept the brazilian influences, and branched out of numetal (thank God)
But yeah, most groove bands are metalcore bands posing as groove

I Am the Night sucks, but Power Metal is great> Vulgar is name dropped because it had all the hits that plebs, jocks, and girls could get into like Walk, This Love, Fucking Hostile, probably worse Pantera album honestly. Only great songs on Vulgar is Mouth For War and Hollow

>hey, what SUPER AWESOME concept should we put in our next death metal record
>whales, dude. Whales.

it became nu metal.

Is Sepultura groove metal? If so, Chaos AD is a fine piece of groove pussy

People are saying Pantera is the only good groove metal but that's not true there's also Sepultura's Chaos AD and Down.

But those are the only 2 besides Pantera, so it still makes sense why groove metal died.

>Pantera
>good
Kek. Groove metal was just slowed down thrash so fat people could keep up with it

"groove" metal is one pecker smooch away from being full throttle rap metal

Sepultura fucking sucks, fuck that shitty ass tribal trash

Chaos AD is not Roots.

Chaos A.D. was proto-Roots so it sucked too.

Max Calvera ended up doing what Sepultura tried on those records better in side projects anyway. Chaos AD is a boring Nailbomb and Roots Bloody Roots is proto-Soulfly

It's probably the most popular thing to come out of metal after thrash metal besides nu metal. The genre gets a lot of love from most metal fans. Only people who make metal part of their identity/personality hate Pantera because just like anyone that makes a certain part of a hobby their identity/personality, when that hobby changes up or does something a bit different, they start RRRRRREEEEEing pretty hard. In Pantera's case it's making music that more groove centric, driven more by rhythmic interplay than metal before it which was more melodic.
The buttrock comparison doesn't make sense because buttrock just played chords on guitar it didn't have that rhythmic focus. Also Gojira's definitely more groove metal on their last two records.

Most metal bands don't know how to groove particularly well, and so most of the music is just grueling chugg riff after chugg riff.

It died with the creation of Damage Plan.

Hey isn't lamb of God grove metal too?
Just asking not really sure

>hurr sure groove metal ded
There is zero reason why people who like Roots and post-Cowboys Pantera wouldn't also like Five Finger Death Punch. It's the same cringey, low effort shit

you suck

You're deaf if you are unable to see the differences between the three examples you posted.

They're all groove metal so fuck you

Yes, because every fan of death metal enjoys all death metal bands, right? Lmao

Sorry, if Anselmo's current career path tells you anything its all about stoner/doom now

because metal is for little faggot kids and manchildren

Hate the later Sepultura all you want, to imply they were never good though is a fool's endeavor

bump

Someone doesn't play guitar

This

>Its a genre with only one good band in it and its Pantera

Attached: WhiteZombie-AstroCreep2000.jpg (300x300, 67K)

based

I do play guitar, Pantera songs are boring as shit to play compared to thrash. Don't even get me started on Dime's shitty tone.

Gojira put out a few good groove metal records

In my mind Dime was the next, and final game changer in metal lead playing. There was EVH and Randy Rhoads, and Dime, and that's it. Nobody has had such exciting and unique solos since.

alternative metal genres like this are literally the only good types of metal.

>EVH and Randy Rhoads, and Dime
Put down the guitar, you fucking pleb

>doesn't like EVH, Randy, and Dime
There's a reason you've gone nowhere with your "music"

It's trite generic shit devoid of originality
: )

Alright, rockstar.
