This was the first time when a I felt than the lyrics of a Hip Hop album was meaningful.

And the only one, honestly.

listen to de la soul - stakes is high

One, that’s wrong. Two, lyrics don’t have to be profound to be good. I can’t imagine listening to 36 Chambers or Ready to Die and not being entertained. Yes listening to artists reflect on society is significant but sometimes it’s fun to hear artists play characters that are essentially exaggerated versions of themselves.

It's like TPAB but actually good

Wu Tang is better even though they're retarded Nation of Islam followers

I only listened to the debut. Thanks for the recomendation, user.

I admire hip-hop as a genre and 36 Chambers, Ready to Die, Wu Tang Forever are three of my favorite of my 90's albums. Notorious BIG and good part of the Wu Tang are really competent in what they do. They are talented and very entertained to listen, BUT i don't call them meaningful. They are really good party music and can get personal sometimes, especially BIG.
I hope that you can see my point more clearly now, thanks for the post.

Yeah, i can agree with that. Kendrick can be profound sometimes (The dollar song and I'm dying of thristy), but he chooses to be a above average commom rapper most of time(King Kunta, LOVE, DNA, HUMBLE).

36 Chambers in general is better than Black on Both Sides. But lyrics on Both Sides is one of my favorites in general.

I can see where you're coming from but I don't know man I really get into 36 Chambers outside of a party setting. If anything I think it's way too low-fi and way too technical rapping focused to be played at any party. They're all just such unique personalities with distinct styles and it becomes more fun on each listen once you learn the verses. 36 Chambers to me is like the best action movie in music form ever. Also, Wu Tang Forever was really disappointing to me. The production is more lazily put together, there's a lot of filler, and the rapping lacks the same intensity.

>I can see where you're coming from but I don't know man I really get into 36 Chambers outside of a party setting.
With "Party music" I wanted to say "Music to have a very good time". For me, it's almost the same thing.

>If anything I think it's way too low-fi and way too technical rapping focused to be played at any party.
Protect Ya Neck it's so good for parties.

>They're all just such unique personalities with distinct styles and it becomes more fun on each listen once you learn the verses
It's a miracle that album was so flawless.

>36 Chambers to me is like the best action movie in music form ever.
Well putted, user. I gonna use this phase in other situation.

>Also, Wu Tang Forever was really disappointing to me. The production is more lazily put together, there's a lot of filler, and the rapping lacks the same intensity.
Exactly, a ton of ideas of all members put together. Not all are good and it's very inconsistante, but the tracks who are good are really good. I think that Triumph may be my favorite track of them.

Damn is a big fat wet shit that I refuse to even acknowledge exists. King Kunta I agree with.

DAMN. is average to good (DNA was a good energy, PRIDE is a nice introspective song and DUCKWORTH is a very nice ending) and a decent way to put him on top of mainstream rap in that year.

Also, not only King Kunta is commom but above average (Alright, i, Poetic Justice, Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe, Swimming Pools and all Section.80, a pretty clever album and one of my favorites of him).

Why would you consider S.80 to be "clever"?

Clever in the wordplay aspect (Hol' Up is a good example) I think that Kendrick is pretty fun to listen, more than consecutive albums. Not very profound like in the Good Kid or Pimp a Butterfly, but very fun nonetheless.

Yeah S80 is underrated for some reason. Has some duds like No Makeup but Keisha's Song is top 5 by him imo

why do I find his music extremely cringe

this is some corny shit

It's kind of pseudo-underground-hip-hop with pop appeal and it kind of comes off weak I don't get it at all or I rather certainly know that anybody who would consider this a legit classic hasn't listened to it in detail because this is what it ironically lacks, what a surprise. The lyrical content is partially utter crap, it's weird, sometimes clumsily ambigous and really just weak. Idk

The samples are extremely typical and the lyrics are hypocritical. It's really just kind of cringe.

>it's pseudo
>who like don't paid much attention
>the lyrics are clumsily and weird
I don't think we listened to the same album.

The production is so solid (Hip Hop, Ms Fat Booty, UMI says) to great (Especially Got and Matematics), i dont have any problem with a particular track and I like them all in certain degree.

Ghost and Rae are normal Sunni Muslims nowadays, I'm not sure about the rest of them though.

OP: this is the first time I've found meaningful lyrics in hip hop!
No one:
Literally nobody:
No one on the face of the Earth, not even Donald Drumpf:
user: THAT'S WRONG!!!

Stop it, please. This user made good posts throughout the thread.

Did u forget about Canibus?

clumsily is an adverb though

It's the same thing as A Tribe Called Quest or Organized Confusion, Outkast etc

It's subliminally suggesting homosexuality, racism, weird fads of sexuality generally and presents strange relationship ideas without it being evident that it's a joke or anything of that kind.

Underground because one would like it because of one aspect but the odds would possibly destroy the experience to whom one would show it and one would possibly experience embarassment if associated with this type of music or if one would admit to it openly because one would have to explain something.

I still don't understand very well what's your point you making. Also, thanks for the grammar correction.

Have you ever listened to the listed artists or observed how these are presented in other media?

Yes, i'm well aware of these artists and i think that Organized Confusion debut, Low End Theory, Midnight Marauders, Aquemini and The Love Below are great albums. What other media you are talking about? Interviews, twitter accounts, News? I barely know these artists besides their work and don't care that much for the political views of Q Tip or Andre3000 unless it's well written and it's in a song.

What do you think about It Takes a Nation of Millions, Black Star, and Things Fall Apart OP?

So you find that for instance reciting lyrics about urinating on somebody, underlaid with a "chill oldschool beat" suggesting a relaxed mood and with a curry favoring voice is the content of a song which you would show to a friend of any kind?

A song by ATCQ contains that and a lot of the other songs carry really strange messages and ambiances.

I prefer reflection eternal for: Thieves in the night

>Not strong (Only aggressive)
>Not free (We only licensed)
>Not compassionate, only polite (Now who the nicest?)
>Not good but well behaved
>(Chasing after death, so we can call ourselves brave?)
>Still living like mental slaves
>Hiding like thieves in the night from life
>Illusions of oasis making you look twice
>Hiding like thieves in the night from life
>Illusions of oasis making you look twice

Overall it's a great album but Rock & Roll makes me cringe so hard

that's what I mean, the lyrics are completely retarded and just spawn unnecessary thoughts and mental states. You could ofc deattach the lingual content from the listening experience but that's something you couldn't always do.

Go listen to the song "thieves in the night" before u try to tell me its retarded faggot
