I like it a lot, and I'm happy to have learned about it from Yea Forums back in 2011ish.
Its one of those rare albums thats fun but also deep 'n' shit; It doesn't sniff its own farts. I have a lot of love for it.
imagine being this contrarian
one of the best albums ever. best of the 90s, best decade tho
This.
It’s pretty average indie rock
Neutral Milk Hotel got me into my favorite E6 band the Apples in Stereo so I like it a lot.
>indie rock
imagine being this braindead
whiney beta music
Indie rock as an aesthetic grouping, not a stylistic claim
aight, fair enough
no posting basedjak on it; this album transcends that dichotomy
the fully concentrated oblivious self-absorbedness of the album is what propelled it to its legend status
right from the very first song it babbles about weird ass shit - and it continues that even unto the end of the album
yet somehow with all that all the weird sentences make sense in a way! it tells u itself without telling but just feeling
second track it suddenly BURSTED out into that long droney jesus krriiiiiii- like who would even get that idea to input into a song?! so reckless yet it works
and whatsup with Oh Comely with just two chords and few yet compact so much feelings
ands whats with this semen and "powerful piston" ovary and other sexual innuendos whats the purpose
and how come "God is a place u would wait for the rest of your life" is such powerful line somehow slipped in this album full of weird ass sentences! what a contrast
and why does it still hold dear place in your heart after all these years even when youve acquired more music
based trips
The Apples in Stereo are easily the best E6 band even though ITAOTS is easily by far the best E6 album.
why does he want to fuck Anne Frank
i love your prose style thank you for the analysis friend

i get into it for like 5 minutes then it starts getting cringy.
like real cringy

I really did like this album. Two headed boy is one of the few things I was able to have a deep emotive connection with that lasted into my current age. More and more often we scorn previous versions of ourselves that were (hopefully) less perfect than we currently are. In doing so the love we had for things is lost. I can still put on this album and be carried back to the first time I heard it. I dont regret connecting with this album and I am dissapointed that people who carried those same opinions before are falling into the mode of hating "every previous iteration of themselves until right this minute". Many of us grew up (musically that is) alongside this album and to call it unimaginative or average is to forget the context under which it was born.
I drive down to where Pet Sounds Studio was every now and again and just stare at that building thinking that at some place in time Jeff Magnum is sitting there too. I think about Robert Schneider founding the studio just a while earlier. what a trip.
based vulnerable album, although i am still wondering when im going to wake up
TWO HEADED BASEDYYYYY
It’s alright
Why does modern folk punk sound more like this album than the original folk punk?
>second track it suddenly BURSTED out into that long droney jesus krriiiiiii- like who would even get that idea to input into a song?! so reckless yet it works
Magnum overheard a neighbor couple arguing, the man shouted "Jesus Christ, I love you!" to his girl and later "I love you, Jesus Christ!" and thought it was funny
This is the first album I found out about through Yea Forums. It blew me away, It's one of those albums I wish I could listen to for the first time again.
its not that good but its pretty good
Best fucking album to sing along to. When the weather's good I open up the windows and do a full sing along lmao
The line that fucking got me was "How strange it is to be anything at all". It's such trite sentence but it mentally boomed me into an existential crisis.
Everything about this is absolutely perfect. I thibk the lyrics are among the best poetic writings that I have ever read, not only as lyrics, but as legit poems as well. And not only for their meaning and depth, but for their musicality. Those verses are music even when you only read them. This and the unique production and sound, the horns (which must be mu favourite sound ever), the voice (which really grows a lot on you, and I consider his voice truly a beautiful and strong instrument). Plus the general meaning (or, at least, from what I infer, ONE of them), that is the aim of saving people from the darkness of the world by showing them life's beauty, my god, someone stop me when I start talking about this album.
The only album id actually consider a 10/10
It’s a great album. It’s THE Yea Forumscore album.
Holland 1945
I'm starting to think people just post this image in response to literally everything indiscriminately.
that's literally is what they do and you replying encourages it
just dont reply
in my g4 over da sea is waaaaay better
Communist Daughter > Holland, 1945 > The King of Carrot Flowers Pts. 2 & 3 > Two-Headed Boy > The King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 1 > Ghost > The Fool > In The Aeroplane Over The Sea > [untitled] > Two Headed Boy Pt. 2 > Oh Comely

Still love it after all the years. It's legitimately great, even if the songwriting is simple. The arrangements are really good and there really isn't another album that sounds quite like it. The lyrics are overrated, but still really amazing at times. Almost every song has at least one great moment. Honestly, I fell out of love with it for a few years until I saw them live and it made me hear the songs in a new way. It was the definitive album of the time which most shaped my adult life so far, so I'll always love it for that, even if a lot of what came after turned out to be pretty terrible never worked out.
DADDY PLEEEEEEEASE HEAR THIS SOOOOONG THAT I SIIIIIIIIINNNNGGGG
If I was grading it as a demo (which is what it sounds like), I'd probably give it a C.
As a finished album? D-.
And I'm not being mean! I like grading things generously, but this album lacked a LOT of leadership. Mostly, it lacked a producer who should've said, "Let's push this thing beyond Demoland, alright? And singer dude, can you PLEASE try to *SING* instead of whatever it is you're doing?"
My favourite album. Emotionally defeated by it every listen. I've seen it described as transcendental pop which sums it up pretty well for me, mostly being simple and nearly familiar for the most part - but there's nothing else I've listened to that has such a deep well of conflicting emotions that all add up to an overwhelming, crushingly depressing kind of nostalgic mourning. An unadulterated masterpiece.
Worst take in the whole thread, positive or negative
you are a faggot and im glad you didn't get quads
that's a bummer dude. My best advice would be try to re-approach the album with no preconceived notions of what it should sound like and see how you feel. Obviously it isn't for everyone but there's a lot more raw emotion that absolutely enraptures listeners than I think you give it credit for, and I hope you'll be able to hear it.
my favorite album too. Very well described in your brief summary.
I don’t listen to it as much as I used to, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t permanently etched in my heart. I’m glad I got to see them on their reunion tour, it was great.
if only more people decided to avoid b8
People who actually get offended by this are obvious newfags.
It's folk emo.

this is very wholesome thank you

Great album. If you don't like it stay in the kiss and gnr thread.
