GO MAUS!!!

hey moon

We Must Become is still AOTD for me
Songs has some really awkward chintzy synth passages that don't do it for me
the stuff that came after was way more refined

Fair enough. I like the lo-fi feel of Songs, it reminds me of something Ariel Pink would make.
good choice

Ariel is on a few of the tracks isn't he
I still love songs, as I love pretty much all of maus' albums
I fucking love Through the Skies

Probably due to the fact they were roommates who had a song competition with each other for a least 50% of the songs Maus had released prior to Screen Memories.
Maus could have a finished song in a little over a month
Ariel had a finished song every week.

>Ariel had a finished song every week.
desu it was probably even quicker than that
the speed with which he recorded the Haunted Graffiti stuff was ridiculous

honestly after exploring synth pop & new wave
maus kinda sucks

That's weird, for me it was the opposite. As I kept listening to 80s synth pop, I found myself appreciating his music more and more.

its weird
seen him live 3 times & gotten all my friendss into him. but i just dont think he does anything right in the genre. he puts his soul into his music which is what carries him

maus' songs are way better than your average synthpop artist and he usually doesn't adorn it with all the other bullshit that makes a lot of it so dated

>WITHOUT YOOOOU GIIRL
>I’M GOIN OVER THE EDDDDGE

i disagree youtube.com/watch?v=WWJem7RuBpc

Yeah I really wasn't talking about Depeche Mode
not to mention Depeche Mode are one of the most entry level synth pop bands out there

depeche mode is synthpop which is what im referring to
no clue why entry level is coming into play?
if it sounds good thats all matters

based

sorry I thought you were the dude who was saying Maus sucked because of some deep exploration of synthpop and new wave
I like DM as much as the next guy

Maus' songwriting and production reminds me a lot of Robin Gibb and Kim Wilde.
Posting 10/10 songs for you.

They offer different vibes. I like Maus, but he'll never write a song this good

Believer is 200x times the song this is
I do love that song however

BASED and 1983 pilled.

Thanks for the recommendations user, I'll check both of those out.

who is John Maus?

i've read john's long borderline autistic essay he write to fader about how he's been doing the past few years (at least, as of 2016)
he said he understands why people think his music is new wave/80s sounding but only because he uses synths and does darker sounds that get compared to goth/post punk
i think he developed his sound for the most part to not sound like another act out of the 80s, he's his own thing.

"John Maus (born February 23, 1980) is an American musician, composer, singer, and songwriter known for his baritone singing style, vintage synthesizer sounds, and use of Medieval church modes, a combination that often draws comparisons to 1980s goth-pop. His early lo-fi recordings, produced with an early 1990s synthesizer soundbank on cassette tape, anticipated and inspired the late 2000s hypnagogic pop movement.[8][9] On stage, he is characterized for his intense displays of emotion while performing. He is also a former teacher of philosophy at the University of Hawaii, where he later earned his PhD in political science."
