For me, it's Alice In Chains. The best grunge band. I even call my local FM station and ask for extra AIC and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.
One time I called and asked for AIC and they played me three of their songs in a row. I said, "Wow, three for AIC!" and the nice friendly radio DJ laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-AIC!".
Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-AIC!" and ALWAYS give me three AIC songs of my choosing. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local FM station, I call up there at least 3 times a week during midday, 1-2 times in the morning, and maybe once at night when I'm tired but want a great song that has just the right combination of heaviness, melody, and angsty disillusionment to help me fall asleep.
I even listen to AIC with all my friends, they’re fantastic! What a great band.
you posted this like its cringe but that sounds like a good time to me
Gabriel Hughes
As long as it's not nirvana
Thomas Bailey
I'm so sick of this faggot contrarian garbage opinion. If teenagers wore a smiley face shirt that said water on it would you only drink soda? There is no possible argument against Nirvana being the most lasting influential and important "grunge" band if people insist on using that stupid disingenuous grouping. I love AiC and the rest but their direct impact on popular music died an ugly death with nu metal and is long gone.
Noah Harris
AiC is the best of the "big 4" but the answer is Mudhoney
>their direct impact on popular music died an ugly death with nu metal Well it's a good thing the Pearl Jam/Nirvana amalgam that is post-grunge is still going strong
Nolan Myers
AiC easily
Adam Fisher
Um...no. It's Tad.
Gabriel Martin
>Well it's a good thing the Pearl Jam/Nirvana amalgam that is post-grunge is still going strong Lol, what is this, 2003???
Owen Lopez
that's the joke he's making, autist. he's implying nirvana's only legacy is the shitty post-grunge it left us that has now thankfully died.
Isaiah Carter
>blah blah blah To me it makes perfect sense that many people who AiC appeals to simultaneously don't like Nirvana and vice versa.
AiC roots are heavy metal/hard rock, Nirvana roots are alternative and indie or whatever.
Grayson Butler
AKA AiC isn't actually grunge and is just hair metal in flannel clothes....
Andrew Morris
It's not hair metal, but it is much more metal oriented music...Facelift is a heavy metal album IMO, not an alt rock album
"Grunge" is not a genre though, it was a scene and fashion statement, the closest description you could come up with for it as a genre would be "dark depressed music that takes from multiple rock influences" which obviously is not strong enough to warrant it being a genre
(For me Nevermind is a perfect album even if now I skip the more plebian tracks. there's still just a whole bunch of cool songs on it and no filler. drain you, lounge act and on a plain come to mind. other than that I'm partial on Nirvana. I really like You Know You're Right. Nice song to end on you know.
And Alice in Chains? Well I think most of their stuff is a bit less diverse and maybe not as creative as the rest of the grunge people. But still Sunshine out of Facelift is one of the greatest songs ever written and their classics are good too. you're recs are welcome, never listened to all of their stuff.
Soundgarden has the best songwriting and Down on the Upside is almost never talked about yet it's their best.
The first half of almost every Pearl Jam album is great. Riot Act and Binarual especially. Space jumper or whatever has great songs too. They also wrote the scariest song ever, foxymophandlemama. that sends chills down any Swans record ever only in 8 mins.
Screaming Trees has that one cool song and Mudhoney is straight up bad compared to all the others.
But) my favorite grunge band is easily Stone Temple Pilots cause they made Shangri-la-dee and it's cool and you should listen to it.
Same. If they weren't clearly one of the best bands of the 90s I'd understand, but they are. Putting a terrible band like Alice in Chains in a pedestal only looks even more desperate
Connor Rodriguez
Jerry Cantrell is a good guitarist but everything else about AiC blows. Pretty mediocre band.
Jaxon Gutierrez
High IQ post
And Screaming Trees are shit next to Lanegan's solo career
Xavier Roberts
>Screaming Trees has that one cool song Sweet Oblivion is just one song?
