As layered & well/tightly-composed as their past albums were, FI wasn't nearly as sonically complex, and pretty much just comes off as a legitimately lackluster attempt of Tool giving their fans "what they wanted" stylistically. You can force yourself to like the album all you want, it isn't going to change the fact that it unironically sucks.
