I always thought of it like this, the entire scene musically as being the spawn of Van Halen(among other things, but let's face it nobody was bigger than Van Halen right before all these bands came out), and the look was just bands copying Motley Crue after Theater of Pain when they went full glam and ditched the black leather/satanic aspect
