gkmc is better
To pimp a butterfly is unironically one of the best albums of the 21st century. Kendricks vocal are fucking insane the way he switches charactaers and shit and his flows are impeccable. The overall cohesiveness of it made my jaw literal drop the first time i heard it. And do i even need to mention the innovative and inventive production?
>doesn't have any new sound and won't change hip hop music in any way
>raps about the same things every other rapper does
how is this an amazing album again?
you don't listen to rap. There are very few rappers that can tell stories like Kendrick does.
what kind of stories does he tell that other rappers haven't already?
What new thing has he got to say?
wasn't even the best album released that month
untitled unmastered is his only good release
>is just a marginally more interesting album than gkmc
>everyone loves it
why
Show me another rapper that can craft a story like How much a dollar cost.
true dat, also illinoise is a masterpiece
Never head of it
Kanye West, MF DOOM and Aesop Rock are all better rappers
also imagine calling an album the greatest based on lyrics alone, especially if those lyrics are from the mouth of a whiny-voiced manlet like Kendrick
MF DOOM and Aesop are great rappers, but neither of them could craft a story like Kendrick as. Provide me a rap song that can tell a story that has a deeper meaning underneath.
None Shall Pass by Aesop Rock
better rhyming as well
still wouldnt call any album the GOAT based on lyrics alone though
excuse me but kanye west is a b tier rapper at best, his lyrics are even worse. his production is what makes him stand out. i don't like kendrick personally, but you have to admit his technical rapping abilities are very good
mf doom literally set up an entire musical universe in his albums, how does kendrick whining about social services beat that
The album that's praised for everything except the music itself
weird how rap albums can be called the greatest of any genre based on lyrics alone (even if they have a boring unoriginal sound otherwise) but for every other genre they need to create a fresh new sound on top of it
Whats the underlying meaning of None Shall Pass, just asking. You shouldn't pick GOAT on lyrics alone I agree with that. I pick GOAT based on Lyricism, artistry, Discography, and production. Kendrick is great in all of these not just lyrics. He's not my GOAT though, DOOM is.
None Shall Pass is about how people judge each other and how society has unreachable standards that we're all oressured to achieve, hence the title "None Shall Pass"
Gotcha
This did create a fresh new sound though. It's probably the most original rap album of the decade.
Uhm, sweetie, try again please.
This.
Kookies is a story about jerking off, and the cookie metaphors are unironically deeper than anything Kendrick's ever made.
>what is atrocity exhibition
what part of it was actually original?
>muh lyrics
is there a more brainlet way to defend music? jesus christ who the fuck cares
listen to more than one rap album before you pathetically attempt to discuss one you buffoon. no one else was incorporating free jazz and heavy funk elements to that extent at that period in time. the instrumentation is extremely unique for a hip hop album in 2015.
>original
>rap
user. come on.
section.80 - 7/10
gkmc - 6/10
tpab - 6/10
untitled - 5/10
damn - 4/10
Untitled is 7/10 and you knoe it
Nah bro it's this
this is the album of the decade, mostly due to the lack of much real competition. i'd rate this album probably like a 6/10 or a 7/10.
What a shit decade.
I've only heard this and Damn and those are the same scores I'd give them. So I assume it's all the same shit
>for a hip hop album
If people are gonna claim it's the best album of the decade across all genres then it'll have to be unique compared to albums of all genres that decade
Yea Forums is an 18+ site dude
google search: a tribe called quest
This album jazz relevant in America for the first time since 1973. Kendrick is a god for that alone even if I personally like GKMC better.
gkmc is pretty good, give it a try.
That or this
literal degenerate
Second part of Uneven compromise by LUM.
Lil Ugly Mane buried the rap game bro.
Wow an album of black man talking about black stuff. Impressive.
B A S E D
That's why this decade fucking sucks and is shit. We went from Moody Blues and Visotsky to this shit. Fucking hell, but "muh boomer" ok zoom zoom keep on ruining the world. Your music is lazy like the people that buy and listen to it. It's lazy and that's all.
i actually fully agree except is right
>whiny-voiced manlet
reminder that if this were 2008 you'd be crying about how much of a skinny jean wearing fag kanye is
really i don't see the appeal, nothing new neither. 3.5/5 at best and not even best record of 2015
>nothing new
Yea everyone's dropping these insanely lyrically dense and technically skilled West coast hip-hop / jazz fusion concept double albums about the American black experience and having a conversation with an iconic dead 90's rapper?
>hip-hop / jazz fusion
nothing new as i said
Post other examples then
Why does this board get so angry whenever this album is brought up?
Because it's incredible, popular and overtly political
This has been the worst decade for contemporary music in history but finally the album of the decade came out at the end.
because it's good bait
WAKE UP
REMEMBER
Most Outkast stories
Is anyone actually still listening to this?
I liked damn and good kid more than this
Worst album of the decade? That's a bit harsh, I just think it's kinda mediocre.
Some of us were actually alive in 2008
how did it not change hip hop, you can def observe the change of direction of any hip hop acts, interests and themes since this album. Hip hop is the most popular and diverse genre today so of course it hasn't all followed TPAB's style but it's def struck a chord in a lot of people. It encapsulated the environment and disappointments of Obama-era America and the political discourse surrounding it while giving props to the best parts of G-Funk without its corny and cringey gimmicks
>Kanye West, MF DOOM and Aesop Rock
surely you could've thought of a more inventive list than 2011 Yea Forumscore artists.
Kanye has great production and DOOM has great word-play but story-telling is pretty average compared to AZ, Scarface, or Raekwon/GFK
GKMC I can understand but why damn, was so underwhelming to me. Other than DNA I almost always skip its tracks
I don't even fucking like Nas, but how are you going to claim that shitty fucking album is the album of any fucking decade when this exists?!
Anything Kendrick Shitmar could ever hope or dream to ever do has been done by Nas a million times better and actual DECADES before, so maybe try killing your fucking self

Nas has not released anything of worth in over two decades
>why damn
I like how it sounds on the more mellow tracks, but I still like maad city more
True, still leagues above anything Kendrick Shitmar has ever dreamed of putting out
Illmatic might be better than any Kendrick ambum but we're discussing the 2010s. Also TPAB's instrumentals shits on any of Nas' instrumentals, Illmatic included
Wow, you litearlly cannot be more wrong
As I said I don't even like Nas, but ever thinking of putting Shitmar above him in any way is simply foolish
no one is trying to argue about Kendrick being better than Nas at his peak but Nas had one classic and one good album. Kendrick has two great albums and two ok albums.
How can u not rate Institutionalized or Hood Politics, can't name many songs that capture that essence since the Dogg Pound-era G-Funk days, let alone entire albums
nice b8 m8
