I think that fakeout is nice enough to develop and reuse in a different song. The second track you posted does nothing for me, but I like the sudden silence at 0:42 that lets the bassier synth stand out.

Shure SM7B, a cardioid dynamic mic. Doesn't require any external power source and sounds great with acoustic. At $400 they're pretty pricey though, I got lucky and found one for $80 off at a music store in my area. Since then I've seen some brand new ones online for a similar price, lowest I've seen went for $300 from some shop in Florida but I think that one's been sold.
