>I didn’t see a thread about it in the catalogue
That's a lie but ok.
It's not bad, however they removed some of the elements that made everyone love them in the first place; songs fundamentally based on pop songwriting with identifiable verses and choruses that have strong melody, as well and cathartic climaxes. They've replaced this with a more meandering prog style, that removes the direction and pointedness that would allow for more aggression and fulfillment.

is right that you're lying about seeing a thread in the catalog, but anyway, it was good. Obviously head and shoulders above most music in general, but that's a low bar. Definitely bottom half of their discog for me, not sure exactly where. But yeah, I liked it, I'm glad it's out. Wish it was more aggressive, but I also like the more soundscapey stuff.

It was seen from mile away when they released Fear Inoculum track as teaser that this will be a shit album. In fact, all Tool albulm are overhyped shit. You need to be some kind of pleb who listens to Sabaton unironically to enjoy Tool.

Here's the consensus : Some people like the new record, some people don't

The album’s pretty good. Definitely the weakest one Tool has put out though.

Descending is a masterpiece.

I think it's really good. I expected very little going in, but came out thinking it's one of their best. For me, it's a tie with aenima at #2 right below lateralus.

it's for faggots so Yea Forums should like it

Music for tonedeaf white people aged teen to 30.

virgin trash

Not as good as Lateralus or Ænima, but still a great album.

Starting it off right away with a Chocolate Chip Trip and then transitioning to 7empest
Any other patricians do this?

Attached: 1557105988543.jpg (499x499, 28K)

>listening to Tool
>patrician

I'm sure there's more patrician music but it's certainly patrician in the way that a lot of people are dumb enough not to get it, which makes it more patrician than lots of other more accessible music

Attached: 1551990793859.jpg (975x600, 37K)

Unapologetic white people music, no wonder the freaks of Yea Forums are confused

It's insanely good. People on Yea Forums don't like it because it's popular and for boomers. It's more of the same but slightly more polished. If you didn't like them before, this album won't suddenly win you over.

>flat mixing lacking dynamics
>overly familiar rifs
>song structures too similar
>overal tame sound with a real lack of weight in general, or a sense of chaos / violence / energy
>maynards lyrics seem to be less poetic than the ones found on 10k and lateralus
that said it's still pretty decent, just not amazing

>overly familiar riffs
7empest has a riff at about the middle till the end that reallllyyyy reminds me of one of the riffs from The Pot but other than that i dont think so

>Toolcels
has "-cel" become some sort of generic depreciative suffix?

Carey on Tool's official website:

"Danny grew up in Paola, KS. Relatively normal, an element of mystery was added to Danny's childhood when one day he spied his father with a large sword conducting a Masonic ritual. Danny would later notice himself performing similar movements when he began playing drums at the age of thirteen. As Danny progressed through high school and then college at the University of Missouri in Kansas City he began supplementing his studies in percussion with speculation into the principles of geometry, science, and metaphysics. A commitment to life as an artist brought Danny to LA where he was able to perform as a studio drummer with projects like Carole King and play around town with Pygmy Love Circus. He would later find an outlet for addressing a fuller scope of his potentials in Tool and another project operating under the title of Zaum. Despite not becoming a Mason or aligning himself with any other school of religion, Danny has maintained his heritages interest in occult studies. Endeavors into this realm have manifested periodically, such as the time he achieved insight into a hidden aspect of the unicursal hexagram utilizing an astral journey initiated through meditation and DMT. Danny then set up his drums into proportions utilizing the circle and square of the New Jerusalem and uttered a short prayer relating to the principles of the ace of swords from the book of Thoth. He then performed a ritual utilizing his new found knowledge of the unicursal hexagram to generate a pattern of movement in space relating to Fuller's vector equilibrium model. The resulting rhythm and gateway summoned a daemon he has contained within "the Lodge" that has been delivering short parables similar to passages within the Book of Lies. Danny recommends as a device of protection and containment a thorough study and utilization of the underlying geometry of the Temple of Solomon for anyone purchasing their next record."

As a musician Tool has always impressed me with the sound they aim for, and through the changes through out the years I have always enjoyed them. also it'd make sense for alot of people on Yea Forums not to get it.

Sounds like all of their other boring albums. Litanie contre la Peur, and Chocolate Chip Trip are fun however

YOU WON'T DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO
LAYYYYY BACK AND LET ME SHOW YOU ANOTHER WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Not as good as the peak Lateralus/Aenima/Undertow years, but better than 10,000 days. 9/10 imo.

I was one of the losers that really loves 10,000 Days, and has been waiting patiently for a decade for Maynard to work on a project that isn't retarded, and get the gang back together.

I had my reservations when it seemed like MJK was really trying to convince the rest of the band to make this album, and after hearing the title track a week or two ago, I got real worried that the rest of the album might sound like that. And I didn't like the track. I thought it was a very lukewarm jam session from some old guys doin' a prog.

Then the album is just....this 86 minute jam session that has nothing stand out, nothing provocative, nothing exciting, nothing intense...it just feels like they're trying to get their feet wet again, and it's so fucking boring. I don't understand the praise this album is getting, it's easily their worst for me.

Overall it's a great ambient world album.

>Better than 10,000 days
How are people even like this? Yeah man, this collection of your dad's 10 minute garage demos with his highschool prog band is way better than Vicarious, Rosetta Stoned, Wings for Marie, the Pot...

what an edgelord. cringy

second best album after lateralus actually

I mean it's nice to have new tool music, just disappointing after a 13 year long wait

Attached: 1495474532343.png (500x354, 184K)

Literally plagiarism. They stole You Lied by Peach and called it Culling Voices. Funny enough they covered that song in Salival. youtu.be/jmkRHo4Vca4

These songs are just really long jams, and I was hearing throw backs to their old songs all over the place. Every song was constantly evolving with nothing realy standing out, like 0 commercial appeal. They phoned it in, yeah it sounds like Tool but so uninspired. Some moments on Decending, Invinsible, and 7empest are cool, and im glad they included some good ol "were just fuckin around here" tracks.
Its okay in the background, but thats not what I wanted.

Best: 7empest
Worst: Litane contre la Peur (if that counts_
Overated: Fear Inoculum
Underrated: Descending

After 3 or so total listens, it's solid. Not amazing but not horrible. My problem is some songs have great parts (2nd half of Descending) but then the rest of it is boring (first half of Descending).
Best songs so far are Invincible, CCT, 7empest

rent free

Feels like a b-sides album with stuff from Lateralus and 10000 Days.

7empest is a pretty damn good song....Overall it's better than I expected. Everyone has different expectations. I don't listen to the haters nor the fanatics of tool. It's all subjective at the end of the day and how the music makes you feel.

Its close, but yeah, FI>10,00 days. Are we pretending 10,000 days didnt get shat on as hard or harder than this when it came out? after Lateralus it was extremely disappointing and clearly their first post-peak album. I guess its just entered that territory now where we can rate it higher and still maintain hipster cred because its old and not their newest album anymore.

"Feels like a b-sides album with stuff from Lateralus and Aenima"

- Autists on 10,000 days circa 2006.

It is way better than I thought it was going to be, WAY fucking better. Besides Maynard they haven't really missed a beat after all these years. Pneuma/invincible/descending/7empest are 10.0s. CCT is perfect too and I wish it was longer, just pure joy. Title track and culling voices are still growing on me, but the weakest on the album

>Going into a thread you don't belong to talk shit
Is there anything more cringe and contrarian ?

Is the CD (7 tracks) or digital version (10 tracks) better?

pretty terrible just like the rest of their discography

it's the epitome of tryhard and tool fans are a great example of the dunning kruger effect applied to music listening

Prime example of the Dunning Kruger effect.

Ænima >>>> Fear Inoculum >>> Undertow >>> Lateralus >>>> 10,000 Days

it's amazing

Attached: tenor.gif (200x193, 73K)

The hype surrounding the release killed it for me. It's just good.

That people like it at all considering the expectations at this point it's an incredible feat.

blessed post

>0 commercial appeal. They phoned it in

OK just like the new Slipknot album it's getting a lot of hype, like it's the fucking life-changing event of the century or some shit. I just see it as, "oh cool, Tool finally brought out a new album"

now i've never rode Tool's dick like everyone else seems to, I think they're a pretty good band but I think there are other bands that are more forward-thinking and boundary pushing you know?

however I listened to some of it and yeah it does sound pretty good, if you love Tool you'll like this. It's basically exactly what'd you expect from a 2019 Tool album.

It was a shit album, I can't believe that is what 13 years sounds like.

I like it, for some reason everyone's going OMG 7EMPEST!!!! but it's the weakest song that sounds like they waiting for it to finish. Except for the weird tech guitar bit about halfway through

I had zero expectations considering the circumstances/hype/them.barely even hanging out with eachother anymore, being senior citizens etc. And I'm honestly blown away by it. Only tool knows how to make tool albums, feels good having more.
It has grown on me alot already and pneuma, invincible and descending are fucking amazing. Tool fucking did it again

Opiate - 7.5
Undertow - 9.0
Aenima - 11.0
Salival - 7.9
Lateralus - 11.0
10,000 days - 8.9
Fear inoculum - 9.0

It is great when a band disappears forever, comes back and releases pure gold, MBV, gerogerigegege, swans, portishead, etc.. and now tool.

I feel like I need some more time to really get a sense of it, but for right now I'd say its good, albeit pretty safe. 7empest was very refreshing since it sounded like something from their first two LP's and I kinda wished for a little more of that. I also enjoy the title track and Descending. Pneuma and Incincible are great tracks but really lack any sort of "punch" that you'd expect. I'm kinda sad that this is probably going to be their last album, but at least they followed through and with the streaming, hopefully more people appreciate them.

It's just... good. Not great. Which i should have been since it took thousands of years to release.

It's grown on me though.

100% agree on this. Maybe I'll look a little more fondly on it after multiple listens but not too impressed on the first time.

It's actually exactly what I wanted: long jams with subdued Maynard. I legitimately at one point wanted them to kick Maynard out and just do a straight instrumental album, but this is good too.

Fuck off Adam

Best track:

Thought it was great, I’d say I prefer it to 10,000 days honestly, I really dig the soundscape-ish instrumental vibe. It’s no aenima or lateralus tho

It's Tool's version of easy listening. I'm alright with that.

7empest 8/10

*tips fedora*

is this a fucking joke? I know Tool have been know to be trolls, so this has to be just a trick album to fool everyone until they release the real one, right? There's no way we waited 13 years for this album of derivative meandering b-sides and filler "interludes" that anyone with taste will listen to once then delete.

Haha, Tool, you got me. now where's the REAL album??? This filler mediocre shit of an release can't be the only thing they put out after over a decade and probably their final album ever...

WHY ARE THE VOCALS SO FUCKING QUIET

I CAN'T MAKE OUT ANY OF THE LYRICS

if you weren't a little high school peeper outcast that read this shit and believed every word of it i feel sorry for you.

I feel bad for all these people who built the album up too much in their heads and can't enjoy it.

it's what they still talk about, to this day. they're too knowledgeable to be memeing

If you can't tell they're taking the piss you must be American.

nobody cares what that cuck has to say about the occult or mysticism

"Danny setup his drums in the pattern of Circle of the Asshole. He loves to do mathematic esoteric stuff while playing shoot the cracker with his band members. They enjoy long walks on the beach and Masonry. Anal sex brings them closer to Alah, Buddha, and even Jesus himself"

Autism

>t. tool management

This person's interpretation of "compassion is the vice of Kings" is pretty odd. And nowhere did Crowley state he promotes or condones "blood/animal/human" sacrifice, just that it works better than anything else and what it does.

It's not cringe at all. You must not understand tools humor and self awareness. Danny is into all this shit, but he takes the piss more than anyone else in the band when it comes to just about everything. As the guy up there said, you must be American. I'm american so actually I KNOW you're american.

on my 6th or so listen now, spent the past listens cranking my speakers trying to recreate some intensity that I thought was missing and being unable to find it. Just muddies it up I reckon, might just be an album to experience a bit softer, they've gone proper new-age and introspective.

yes but his self aware humor is even MORE cringe than if he were just straight about it

>things people said about tool back when the mix was actually sophisticated and they were actually good

What the fuck is wrong with you
