My thoughts?
They should have quit while everyone thought they were ahead.

Why didn’t he do the scream even once? There were ample appropriate moments throughout.
in 1996 you mean?
TOOL is literally all the tasteless aspects of america encapsulated into one band.
soooo bad on all levels, aesthetically, musically, etc.
Probably because he's 55 and blown his voice out. Maynard hasn't been able to pull off good yells and most of the old aggressive singing for some years now. It's a shame because the album suffers from being a bit boring and repetitive. If they cut the songs down a bit and had better climaxes in most of them, the album would be a fair bit better.
Yeah but it has no hook. It's not catchy. I can't remember one fucking note. Even Death Grips has something to grab on to. This? Did no one around them pull someone aside?
this...
it's all the grindy parts with none of the payoff. And it's like grindy parts on repeat for 10 mins per song. The album is such a bust. RIP tool
Ænima > Lateralus = Fear Inoculum > Undertow > 10000 Days
How does anyone not think of Undertow as the best? I'm old and its not just nostgalia. Every track is so fucking badass (besides the henry rollins part)
Boring at times but still worth putting out, that wanky technical riff in the second half of 7empest is worth sitting through the rest of the album. Their old output is still there.
>It's not catchy
Fucking zoomers man
chocolate chick trick was the only good song on the album imo
it's one of their bests.
Quitting after lateralus would've been the best thing to cement the tool status.
Goodbye tool, to my ears a flat boring inoculum indeed.
The album was a good album. Idk if it's up to the bar they've set, but if an album that isn't as good as their other work can retroactively ruin that stuff for you, that's dumb. Just enjoy the album. It's fine to criticize it, but "they should have quit while they were ahead" is dumb. If it's either Fear Inoculum or nothing, I would absolutely rather have Fear Inoculum.
They could have released this instead of 10000 days, except actually play it right, and then quit, and it would have been the greatest band of all time.
>They should have quit while everyone thought they were ahead.
I haven't even heard it and I know that's true.
I get this nagging feeling that Yea Forums specifically should be somehow flattered this artwork and some of the album's themes.
>Legion Enoculant
>zoomer
first tool concert in 94
OTG 92
Regardless of whether you personally think the album is shit or not that's a really stupid thing to say, considering the vast majority of people outside of Yea Forums think it's a great album, including professional critics
The "opinion" of professional critics is irrelevant. They are payed do do write, band to hide their opinion man.
Source : I know some "professional critics".
If you were one, would you risk to submit your honest opinion facing a massive backlash, or would you prefer to playin it safe?
Not even close. Five finger death punch maybe
Literally had the chorus of Invincible stuck in my head as I read this
WARRIOR
Right. Critics serve their audience and their agenda, which are often interrelated. Tool is a legacy proggy rock act which predisposes a lot of critics to dislike them, but they also have a notoriously rabid fanbase and Tool hasn't been caught making a dangerous political statement, so the latter outweighs the former and the reviews have been good.
I agree with you, and not the guy complaining about the lack of any hooks. Invincible has been stuck in my head all day.
that fucking tool looks like chin chin lmao
>NIN never made another TDS of Fragile
>Manson never made another AS or MA
>Rammstein never made another Sehnsucht or Mutter
>The Prodigy never made another Jilted of Fat of the Land
>but that's ok, let's pick on Tool and whine why they never made another Aenima or Lateralus
They recorded this album on a 4 track which makes it good.
>not catc-

all of the So(y)males getting salty about the new album can get over it. Tool owes you nothing. And if they didn't release a new album then you would just be complaining about that instead.
Go listen to your shitty indie hipster shit then, soiboys

I'd have been happy with an Undertow 2.0 tbf, doesn't have to be Aenima tier.
Carey on Tool's official website:
"Danny has maintained his heritages interest in occult studies. Endeavors into this realm have manifested periodically, such as the time he achieved insight into a hidden aspect of the unicursal hexagram utilizing an astral journey initiated through meditation and DMT. Danny then set up his drums into proportions utilizing the circle and square of the New Jerusalem and uttered a short prayer relating to the principles of the ace of swords from the book of Thoth. He then performed a ritual utilizing his new found knowledge of the unicursal hexagram to generate a pattern of movement in space relating to Fuller's vector equilibrium model. The resulting rhythm and gateway summoned a daemon he has contained within "the Lodge" that has been delivering short parables similar to passages within the Book of Lies. Danny recommends as a device of protection and containment a thorough study and utilization of the underlying geometry of the Temple of Solomon for anyone purchasing their next record."
Descending > Pneuma > Invincible > 7empest > Fear Inoculum > Culling Voices
Pneuma > Invincible > Culling Voices = Fear Inoculum > 7empest > Descending
Descending is predictable, Tool doing their best impression of themselves.
7empest needs better vocal melodies and lyrics. It tries so hard to be an Undertow tracks, but misses out on the genuine, unpretentious aggression that makes Undertow great.
7empest > Culling Voices > Descending > Invincible > Fear Inoculum > Pneuma > CCT
