They’re up there but not quite as overrated as the Beatles or Radiohead
Wrong opinion, user. That would be AC/DC
You know, this might be true
No, Nirvana is.
AC/DC is rated just as they should be. No AC/DC fan will ever try to convince you they're anything other than what they are, you just hate rock n' roll if you don't get why they're considered the best at it
And yes I said rock n' roll, not alternative rock, not prog rock, not heavy metal, ROCK N' ROLL. It's supposed to be nothing but sexy and youthful rebellious shit that makes you wanna drink a ton of beers and shake your ass, that's all.
but i could've written AC/DC's songs on the guitar as a 12 year old. As probably many other 12 year olds out there. I just didn't. As well as many other exceedingly simple riffs that every other beginner guitar player has come across.
There's certain extraordinarily cheap easy writing that you just don't do, unless you're as shameless as AC/DC is
Darkness imprison me, all that I see, absolute faggots like OP.
Wrong. I'm sure you could have played them after looking up the tabs and practicing them, but you couldn't have written them.
But then again, I don't think I want to have this conversation with you because you seem like someone who hates rock n' roll, you could never see the genius in something simple because that's not how your mind works.
this but add Queen to that list
>t.gf got fucked by a Nirvana chad
Wrong. Nirvana is overrated because they are every bit as simple as a band like AC/DC but their fans try to make it something more just because the Kirk Cocaine chose to write nonsensical lyrics they falsely believe are "deep and intellectual", thus they prop Nirvana up on a pedestal they don't belong on.
and i think i'm talking to someone who's never picked up a guitar. Which there is nothing wrong with. But bands like Metallica and ACDC prey on people who are wowed by any distorted guitar sound, and don't know how shameless a riff like Fade to Black or Dirty Deed is
no way you can call Queen's talent overrated, with Brian May's guitar experimentation and there song structure experimentation
What do you have against bees?
I'm not a great guitar player so I won't LARP as one for the sake of argument, I play a little but am not amazing.
That being said, I know some amazing rock guitar players, and I've never met one who felt the way contrarians on the internet do about AC/DC. In my experience, AC/DC is a guitar players band.
Holy shit, the water is wet, the night is dark, and OP loves to suck cocks.
Figures that some dweeb AC/DC fan would try to legislate what rock 'should be '.
And Nirvana is only put on a pedestal because Kurt died young and the media decided to anoint him the voice of a generation. I don't hate AC/DC just because of dweeby fan like you, but you admitted to letting your view of Nirvana fans color your opinion.
Metallica rules
James is a respectable guitar player, mein fuhrer. And by that I mean, he knows he's not that great and doesn't try to be. He's got a good melodic ear and seemed to intentionally seek out an objectively shit "lead guitarist" to lean on his wah pedal for decades so as not to upstage the rather modest, but memorable guitar work he wanted to do with Metallica and you basically HAD to have a lead guitarist back in those days so I think it was a smart move.
There is no what "rock should be" only what "rock is"
Nirvana and their ilk called themselves alternative rock for a reason, they were going against what rock was a bout. That was their entire purpose.
Metallica is great(I'm talking about before it went to shit), saying otherwise is just being contrarian.
Nirvana is good too.
Talent? Absolutely not. As a band, absolutely.
This. You can like either or like both, but nobody saw Nirvana as part of the lineage of rock music AC/DC was a part of...they rejected all of that shit and wanted nothing to do with it, neither did their fans, and fans of the old guard didn't want anything to do with them.
METAL UP YOUR ASS
i dunno man. The riffs in Master of Puppets or Creeping Death, and even Orion are just not that creative. Though I respect Orion's non-creative main motif cause it kind of has its place and makes sense balanced against the weirdly jubilant/dark middle part twin-solos.
And I only keep bringing up the riffs cause that's presumably the draw to Metallica (i believe). Cause the lyrics are certainly nothing to write home about. Literally straightforward fantasy tales written in a dungeons and dragons player's bedroom. Or projection into some character or lifestyle and what James imagines that's like. Like by-the-numbers "creative writing" 101
I'm going to have to ask you what you think is better, because I'm getting a mental image I really hope isn't true
based
I'll admit I'm not much of a metal listener at all. But Carcass is a famous example I can think of. Metallica could never put out a solo like the one at 1:00 here youtube.com
Kirk doesn't even have shit on Dimebag. And definitely not Kerry King. I just see other guitarists pushing the guitar to explore new frontiers of its capabilities, and not just robotically hammering out single notes on it. Doesn't impress me
>overrated
>everyone shits on them 24/7
>Harcore fans can't even agree on whether or not the first 4 albums are good or first 3 or 2.
>Everyone says kirk is the worst lead guitarist ever
>Everyone says that Lars is beyond shit at guitar
>Everyone says that James vocals have gone to shit
>Everyone says that rob can only do crabcore
It's hard to be overrated when EVERYONE says you're shit or a has-been.
>Everyone says that Lars is beyond shit at guitar
I meant drums.
Damn. Is this why I never hear Kirk Hammet's name anywhere? Did he write all his guitar parts? Like the opening solos on One? Those are pretty a1 as far as guitar goes you have to admit
Adam Jones and Daron Malakian are two guitarists who have too gotten away with impressing the public with incredibly elementary, nothing guitar work
knew some faggot would say this
nirvana is fucking great
basically the only fault you can give it is that the guitarwork isn't very good
cobain is a fantastic singer with a distinct voice, a great lyricist with a unique style (often using strange, creepy, medical imagery), and he blended hardcore punk with pop-rock beautifully
anyone who doesn't think kurt cobain's death wasn't a huge loss for music is fucking retarded
based as fuck
He writes most of the leads. There are times when James writes leads but they're more melodic and he usually plays them live so you can tell who wrote what. James wrote the first solo on Master of puppets while Kirk wrote the 2nd. For Kill em all, Kirk was told to use Dave Mustaine's solos as a base to build off of. The only solo that was 100% kirks from Kill Em All was the first solo from "the four horsemen" Funnily enough, I think it's the best solo on the album. And yes, Kirk wrote the all the solos on One.
Kirk has lost his touch, but I honestly think he was good especially for the time. He was a pretty grounded lead player during a time when everyone was trying to be the fastest and craziest. Just look at who he was competing against. Kerry King can barely write leads to save his own ass and they all end up lacking any sort of melody. Dave mustaine while good was pretty sloppy during his earlier years, and HEAVILY relied on the pentatonic scale. As much as people try to say that Kirk relies on the pentatonic scale too much, Dave Mustaine actually did. So Dave's excessive use of the pentatonic scale paired with the absence of more melody solos (at the time) made Kirk stand out. This was also YEARS before Marty Friedman ever showed up to the scene and Chris Poland only got to shine on 1 Megadeth album. For the time Kirk was definitely good.
Nowadays however, he hasn't written anything worth a damn.
I do wonder what kind of music Kurt would put out if he were alive today, an heroing at you peak is probably the beat way to secure a legacy. Rivers Cuomo would be considered an icon if he had done so between Pinkerton and the Green Album.
I dunno man, the solo at 2:25 is pretty fuckin killer
youtu.be
Matt Sharp an heroed his career in his place.
and I say that as someone who likes The Rentals.
that solo is boring and not interesting at all
Queen is as good as the hype, it's just that so many of the "oh em gee i luv qween!" people are women/Redditors who just like to claim them as one of their favourite bands because they like 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'We Will Rock You'. They never bring up the great shit like 'Brighton Rock' or 'Dragon Attack' in my experience.
I find that a strange comment as that section wouldn't be out of place on Master Of Puppets.
or Bijou

Good that worked out for you.
>Kirk doesn't even have shit on Dimebag. And definitely not Kerry King
Kerry King is one of the worst guitarists in metal history.
