Because Oasis openly celebrated their own music and clearly fucking loved being rockstars at a time when Cobain/Reznor-type I-hate-fame-woe-is-me-I'm-not-really-that-talented posturing was obligatory for any even slightly successful alternative rock band.
The wet noodle "charisma" of grunge/US alternative rock was something that allowed pasty alt/indie rockers to delude themselves into thinking that they themselves could still "make it", that there was a bit of Kurt Cobain or Thurston Moore in all of them. By comparison, you really couldn't delude yourself into thinking that somewhere deep inside, you had what it took to be Liam Gallagher.
