NEVER GO TO MUSIC SCHOOL

If you want to make soulless music like Adam Neely, Ben Levin, and the 2 Million dollar education orchestra, go to music school.

Adam Neely's own video on this topic seems relevant here youtube.com/watch?v=KD3Qo5DKM2s

Just because a lot of people with music education write obnoxious and uninspired music with hackneyed tropes it doesn't mean it has a detrimental effect on your writing. In fact, you will probably write obnoxious and uninspired music regardless of your education. Theory is a tool. How it is used depends on the individual.

A continuation of this thread? LOL!

This thread always generates interesting discussions, probably the only thread worth going on Yea Forums for
Chad "neely is a hack" poster

This
There are plenty of musicians with formal education that make interesting stuff

Brian Wilson, the Beatles, Hendrix, Morrissey, etc didnt go to music school

Even the Jazz players who made it dropped out before finishing jazz school. School is a place to hide.

Based.

Improved technique means jack shit if you can't write a decent melody to save your life or have an interesting perspective...or any unique quality about you whatsoever. This song and the chick in particular sucks. Boring af.

No I actually went. Im the cautionary tale with good intentions.

They're not particularly technically skillled either
Ben levin, adam neely, rick beato all have pretty average chops that every self taught musician has
They have more music theory knowledge
But they have absolutely no clue on aesthetics and cohesion
You can only aquire these things from listening to a lot of music

I've listened to shitloads of different music and can't into aesthetics and cohesion though :(

shhhhhh but rick beato speeds up his guitar videos lol. Watch his head movements.

When you listen to music, take note of everything you like, then analyse why you like it and how the part works and you'll naturally develop great taste in songwriting that way, fast

ok, now post one of your songs to prove your methods

Explain the vast majority of classical composers and people like Toby Driver and (to a lesser extent) Tosin Abasi then

People like Neely are the reason I quit music school. Fucking disgusting boomer worship, all of it.

Thanks user

Tosin abasi doesn't have higher music education, what he did was some sort of year long music theory course that anyone can enroll in iirc

Aesthetic value is pretty divorced from the path, I reckon. And it's also the finnickiest of values.

Tosin Abasi also sucks.

Meant for

Toby Driver sucks lol. Are you kidding me?

Keep playing your i-v, i-iv-v and I-V-vi-IV songs

>Toby Driver
That faggot's still around?

The classical composers studied COMPOSING CLASSICAL music, not this pseudo-intellectual academicized castrated jazz bullshit. Toby and Tosin can both fuck off.

>no middle ground between this and spork shit

>Ben Levin's music
>soulless
Nice meme.

I only play chords with at least 3 extensions. Rootless voicings of course.

Scaruffi only pretends to listen to music.

>not playing traditional folk music based on drones and at most a I-V vamp
do you even aesthetics

What is the aesthetic when is comes to songwriting?

It's the knowledge of not making kitsch or shallow artistic decisions

sounding good

>In fact, you will probably write obnoxious and uninspired music regardless of your education

This, lol'd

That's a legitimately good album though.

Greatest Metal song done by music theorists

Mozart didn't know any music theory.

Will this ever be surpassed?

Actually good onions jazz coming through

This is pretty good

If radiohead released this as a single, you guys would eat this shit up.

LOL why are they funking to it like theyre playing some sick groove? I guess they think if they emphasize how they ``feel`` the music it will make them seem more authentic, appearances are everything after all.

The sax dude made some games. They're pretty good if you're into jazz fever dream simulators.

It's the equivalent of boomers ernieing away on dumb blues licks

>destination unknown's riff but with some artsy fartsy shit thrown on top
haha so good
