This is shown not to be the case, as his pretended idealism balks at the notion of assering itself amongst a demographic that lacks either the patience, intelligence or both(from his pov) to comprehend let alone succumb to his ideals.
You are stating that his ideals are not absolute, and that the ideal of racial assimilation/conciliation is another ideal that he holds, and in a higher regard than the former. As such you are saying he prioritizes his ideals.
He is being mocked because the ideals ge holds come into conflict with one another often. This is often the case for those who are not properly morally balanced, and who believe in juggling a vast number of rules and regulations (specific morality)rather than trusting in a morally singular theme(systemic morality) to steer them in each specific instant.
