by the way it the "feeling better to play" did not last long, which is why I didn't do it again
It's only when trying to do stretches that you realize how much your tendons still are fucked. I tried to rate the wrist while keeping the thumb stretched and it hurt up to the arm. My fingers also constantly feel like they want to close. Thankfully my hands are not shaking anymore. Hopefully one day they will get smooth and easy again.
Yes, bass strings

Normal?

Thinking about getting pic related. Seems pretty unusual. But it's still an epiphone.
I think the idea is cool, and if I ever got my shit together I would probably get one: >You could play any shape open chord for any note. >You can play in any key you want for maximum sharpness. >It's probably like finger picking with both hands. >You could play rhythm with one hand and lead with the other. >And it doesn't sound like a piano.

Trying to ID this old guitar but the only identifying information I can find is that it says "87 № 26599" on the inside. Does the fact that there's no brand name on it mean that it's a cheap one? Anything you can tell me about this like what body shape this is?
It's plywood construction so a cheap guitar for sure. Probably 60s or 70s judging by the font.

Hey bros Another dogfood store is wanting to hire me I hear they pay 1,5 minimum wages and I am not sure if they want their worker to work on sundays Also I'm p sure I won't have the chance to sit alone for hours humming, tapping autistically and practicing on my headless compact guitar.
Anybody here have any advice for how to mute the strings your not playing with your right hand? I'm just learning how to reduce string noise and I'm getting the hang of it but I'm not sure if I'm doing the right hand part correctly. Where should my hand be resting when I'm not muting any strings? Is there any trick to this or do I just put my palm on the e string and roll it down the strings as I'm playing? If you know any good video tutorials that would be cool.
It's a parlor guitar. I'm gonna guess it's a 70's Japanese guitar, they (the Japs) flooded the market with guitars like that back then. It could be a Suzuki, or just a nameless brand every music store had stacks of. The best advice is to go search Google for that headstock shape, inlay, and soundhole inlay, and see if you can find similar. The really collectible stuff will have a logo or a tag inside the body identifying it. Probably not a bad guitar, per se, how does it play? It looks like it was well cared for, so it might be worth hanging onto and taking care of.
Thanks for that info. I'm a beginner player and have nothing to compare it to. Can't record a video of me playing it because it's the middle of the night for me and people are sleeping. I mostly just wanted to know if I'm stunting myself by learning to play on a shit guitar.

Guy who loves Flying Vs here, my Jazzmaster comes WEDNESDAY. That's right lads, WEDNESDAY. Pretty soon I'll be rocking so hard that I'll be ready for Flying V!
The only issue is you'll have some issues switching from a nylon acoustic to an electric, but that should be fine for learning on, as long as the neck is in good shape. If you can afford it, take it to a guitar shop and have them take a look at it. Have them show you how to string it, etc.

if you are going to use solely the pedal for the gain, metalzone. if you are using amp drive + pedal, comes down to preference though I don't like much ds1 with the gain higher than 12o'clock except for some occasional solos. as always, the ideal is trying out

how do people jam? im going to try to form a band and have rarely played with others before. do we say a chord or scale and play notes from it until it sounds good? do we all just play whatever and try to match? I play bass and dont know chords so im fucked if thats required.
Most jams are based off of a given key. Usually someone (keyboards and/or guitar) will start with an idea like a riff or chord progression and the rhythm will fall in behind them, then each musician will take turns improvising a solo.
Hudson Davis
sell it and buy a flying v. Jazzmasters are uncomfortable.
Levi Myers
ah thanks man, that makes more sense. if a chord progression is chosen does that mean the bassist would only play notes from the chord during the chord or would it be ok to play all notes from the key?
Blake Cooper
It'll come strung. If it feels uncomfortable or buzzes then take it to a music store and pay for a setup.
Aiden Myers
Yeah. Tried lots of brands actually, but don't ask me if they're any good. I never heard a different between brands, except for that one time when I tried those $2.50 offbrand strings. They were shit. Everything else sounds absolutely the same to me. So I just stick to Elixir because they last me a year or more.

Jens Larsen is actually not a good teacher and Ill explain why. There is a phenomenon as a guitar teacher where you want to keep students dependent on you as long as possible. Its not really possible to continue to churn out lessons for years with useful information. If you go to Jazz school, after 4 years you come out playing proficient jazz, so how can he sustain a channel for years upon years? He does this by going the muh theory route. This is the scale use these chords do these exercises come back next week. Thats like me teaching you the alphabet, how the letters sound phonetically and then saying "ok make up some words. youll be speaking in no time" No you will never learn a language that way. If you want to learn Jazz you memorize 400 standards. You can get through 200 in the 4 years of jazz school and be pretty damn good. Its a vocabulary. Listen to jazz everyday and learn songs. Just like any other language. If you learn scales you just sound like a blind man wondering through the forest playing shitty lines. Please discard Jens from your education diet. He is a charlatan and taking you for an endless ride.
what are some budget interfaces? or would it be wise not to go budget on them? help me out guitarbros >.

Depends on what kind of vibe you want to bring out. If the rhythm is tight or almost kind of like a funk beat, it might be better to stick to a few simple chord tones and really emphasize the rhythm so that the keys, guitar, or horns can add color with extended chords or melody lines. If there is more musical space then you can sort of float over the top with a cool melodic bass line with off-the-cuff fills. Check out BADBADNOTGOOD to get a sense of how to approach music in more of a jam context.
I'd say the most important thing in any jam session is to focus on developing your ideas. Don't be afraid of repetition but maybe give some thought to where the music is telling you to go and use that to move from one idea to another. Maybe start out riffing on a pentatonic pattern. Then move it up an octave. Then add a flat 5 for a bluesy feel. Go from playing whole notes to eighth notes, then get into a swing groove with the drummer. I don't think any chord progression you jam on will end up being overly complicated (unless you guys are all playing Real Book tunes), so focus on starting with simple ideas rather than running through scales.
I'll see if I can find a sample of a jam I've recorded.
it is not these guitars are called Aristides and they're made of a material called Arium they're retard tier expensive but are supposedly good quality and sound excellent big in prog metal community youtu.be/hQMJGwyhP9Y

Levi Ramirez
If you actually follow Jens Larsen's channel, he has a fuckload of videos where he transcribes a bunch of licks usually all by a single guitarist on a few different recordings and explains how those licks contribute to that musician's style and where their vocabulary is coming from. I've found them incredibly useful because once you know what's going on you start to hear it in other jazz playing and it makes studying vocabulary easier on your own. I've never found any of his videos particularly scale-heavy, and any jazz guitar player will do SOME studying of melodic minor and bebop scales and chord-scale theory at some point.
Also, no one memorizes 400 standards. I'm a jazz musician that performs in a major city regularly and most other jazz musicians' repertoire consists of 100 or so because so many tunes use recycled progressions like Rhythm Changes, Autumn Leaves, All Blues, Billie's Bounce, etc. and musicians can quickly adapt new material at jam sessions with a good base knowledge ("okay, we're gonna do Mr. PC." "What's that?" "It's just a blues in C minor." "Ah, okay.")
Oliver Baker
One day, when you have your V. You'll come back and still be called a faggot. Embrace it now so that you can thrive later.

This was improvised to fill time at a last-minute opening gig. Apologies for the bass being over-mixed here, it was mic'd a bit too loud in the PA. I tried EQ'ing it on my phone so it sounds slightly better.
I'm left handed, is it worth actually learning guitar left handed for me? I've given both a little bit of "practice" but when I absentmindedly try to air guitar it's left handed.
Fuck you I am excited for my Jazzmaster it comes Wednesday.
Cooper Davis
I played one of these. A friend's boomer dad has two of them.
It was really, really not what it's hyped up to be. As a guitar that's meant to be played I don't think it's much better than anything else made in a first world country. I believe the target audience is pros with endorsements from gibson (you always play the best your endorser has, or you're saying their cheaper shit is good enough) and boomers who don't actually play guitar but have a fetish for owning them.
Imm side with all the pros who don't give a fuck about gibson and say I'd rather buy fender custom shop. Strats, and superstrats, just feel better in your hand. Maybe les pauls are appealing to people with smaller hands?
There are also people who think the stuff they bought is better than the stuff they didn't buy.
Read up on cognitive dissonance in all its permutations and it will explain /gg/.

I really like the way old nitro aged. I think Fender got it right with the thin skin finish on some of their reissues and custom shop models. I can't stand the thickness on the rest of the Fender nitro and Gibson uses so much plasticisor that they might as well use poly.

Some people are mad at stuff they could afford but can't anymore now that they already bought something. These are the worst because they actively go around shitting on everything else to feel better about the tough choice they made. Regular sour-grapers are quiet until you remind them that they're poor.
And yet somehow, jcum is both. He wants, but can't afford a gibson, and he spent all his money on an MIA strat.
Ayden Cook

Yeah but buy a 7 string classical. These are pretty cheap and sound alright
7 string downside 1: you can't fret the lowest string with your thumb and look like a cool rock and roll dude unless your hands are inhumanly huge 7 string downside 2: anime posters make fun of you 7 string downside 3: you have to spend more money on strings 7 string downside 4: there's limited selection of boutique pickups, so it's harder to mimic the tone of your favorite guitarist unless they play a 7 string too 7 string downside 5: people will think you play metal and are just too lazy to downtune 7 string downside 6: actually using the seventh string is harder than using the sixth string unless your hands are big 7 string downside 7: you don't need seven strings to play the only good guitar music: blues rock.

alright Yea Forums, how'd we do? (I know that the drum machine sounds like a meat packing plant, I know that the mix is shit, we were using the settings from another project and I hit "record" during an improvised jam over a static drum machine loop, the bassist and myself, and I cut out the even more boring parts). In retrospect I definitely wish that I had forced him to run parallel between the DI / his chain and the POG2 because he's a fairly green bass player and his consistency would've benefited from his compressor at the beginning of his chain - total PITA to mix. Not that there aren't workarounds, but not ones I'm willing to bother with for diminishing returns at the margins for a one-off.
everything's digital-cucked.
I've been playing for over a decade, self-taught (have had training with other instruments but not stringed or fretted instruments) but I've only recently started using a wah (Ibanez WD-7, gift) so I'm still trying to get the hang of it, mechanically, and not sound like a kirk hammett/frampton ripoff. I'm pretty proud of how the solos turned out, given that it was all improvised and my bassist friend doesn't really give me much of a palette to work with - it's consummate dadrock but I had fun. what do you think?
It didn't take a decade, certainly wouldn't if it were a practiced piece and not a hobbyist jamming with a friend in a single take. if I wanted feedback on technical passages I'd post those, but that's not the point of sharing this my dude
