LA, SF and NY seem like the 3 locations where kpops could reasonably expect to sell out mid size arenas. BTS of course being the major exception but even then they seem to avoid the super sized US arenas.

Other than airfare, hotels and food for the artists and managers the economics for Kpops visiting other countries to do live shows isn't really that bad. In the west touring smaller venues like this is a completely valid way of making money and is generally a better moneymaker than releasing a comeback which almost never make money for most girl groups.

The main thing is that you need to get hooked up with a good local/regional production company that can handle all the logistics and doesn't do stupid shit like prepurchase all the seats in a really large venue that the group can't fill.

But when you combine concert revenue plus fan signs plus merchandising/album sales it's probably a better money maker than doing endless mall/college appearances in SK.

I've noticed a lot of Korean performers will perform at some places almost like charity just because it's an "honor" to perform there, in Korea I mean. Like at Akaraka, the university festival I went to here, they had Psy perform with LeeSSang, Rainbow, and many others. And they've had IU and Blackpink and Twice and Girl's Generation all do it too. And all of them talked about how "my father went to this school" and "it's an honor to finally perform at this festival". What I'm trying to say is that the biggest Kpop stars seem to genuinely like performing. They're not as obsessed with the money as US pop stars are. Their entertainment companies sure but the big stars like IU seem to genuinely like going out and being seen by fans.
