It is too pure for this board
sucks
Old Yea Forums use to have threads about it but all Yea Forums does these days is complain about trannies on rym
it's cute when there's a dungeon synth song as an interlude or a intro/closer to a bm album but i couldn't imagine listening to a whole album of it
i don't know i haven't listened to a dungeon synth album desu
Give you it shot user most everything is online and easy to get your hands on

Love it. I miss DS December bros. We need to make a new calendar!
Basement synth is the most autistic genre of music and thats why I like it
>DS December
Never heard of this. What is it?
The autism is what gives the genre soul
Dungeon Synth December. One album every day in december. Like you see in the pic. We need to make a new one for this december
Really got into Chaucerian Myth, and I'm not sure why Canterbury Tales keeps getting included on charts like this as their most essential work. The Book of Margery Kempe and Troilus and Creseyde are way more interesting and experimental, and have some of his best melodies. CT is a great start, but is way too drawn out and repetitive, and isn't a good representation of the rest of his work.
Yes.
Is there like a group of people who take care of this or just one guy?
Well I guess we all can suggest albums and then someone who wants to make the chart can take care of that
>witch house dungeon synth
This genre is going weird places
Can people start suggesting stuff then?
Essoupi - Aktiv Dodshjælp
David Terry - Sorrow
Jaaportit - Kauan koskematon
Jötgrimm - Winterschwärze
Dark Ages - A Chronicle of the Plague
Hate Forest - Temple Forest
Daoine Sidhe - Daoine Sidhe
literally any Erang album
Nox Arcana - Winter's Knight should be the album for Christmas day since there are literally Christmas songs on it
Pumpkin Witch - Hovel of the Pumpkin Witch
Sidereal Fortress - Racconti Del Focolare (another kinda Christmas-y album, good for the week of Xmas)
Lets just make sure we don't do any repeats from last year
shitty lo-fi hip hop tier zoomer genre desu senpai
lofi dungeon beats to study/celebrate the solstice to
Stop being gay
>dungeon synth
>zoomer
This isn’t deconstructed club/bubblegum bass. Dungeon synth is literally neckbeard boomer tier.
no actual neckbeard boomer listens to this shit
it's just zoomers looking for comfy and edgy music to chill to
30 year old boomers do
Hella wicked darkness
Nothing eases the pain of nbbmn ending like dsd.
If you guys could also suggest, explain, or give a general time of the month the album should be like that’d help a lot too
as someone who has data on who listens to my music, it definitely skews heavy towards late 20s and 30s more than anything (thanks big brother)
Lost Tales has definitely become my favorite Dungeon Synth. The spoken word samples are pulled off incredibly and the drums on Saruman give off an energy I haven't found anywhere else in dungeon synth. The Mirkwood demo is also good, as well as the Die Verbannten Kinder Evas project.
Meta as fuck
The Dra Sad trilogy is the best thing to happen recently in dungeon synth. The first is still my favorite, but II and III and also phenomenal. Elffor is releasing his best music these days.
Old Tower is great
Elffor is based
these are great. makes me realize that the music I makes is very close to ds, but poppy and a bit new age
Post it user. I’d love to here more like that stuff
His black metal is pretty great too.
Looking forward to it. So many great releases this year and that one user wanted to post his album on the first day, I think.
The Herbalists - An Unexpected Forestshrine for casiokino
Those have to be different sprites. There's no fucking way.
How hard is it to make DS? Seems like you just need to play with a synth for a week or 2.
The barrier of entry isn't high in terms of skill, only in terms of soul.
It's a pretty accessible genre to get into creating, but it is really easy to make bland and uninspired dungeon synth. Making something of quality that is actually worthwhile and not just a shitty bandcamp album is much more difficult.
Love this band but other than this there hasn’t been another ds band that has truly impressed me
This. A lot of dungeon synth, especially the older stuff is obviously very cheap sounding but it has that “soul”. A lot of newer stuff has better sound quality but really boring. It’s like how old pixel art was super detailed and had a lot of work put into it while modern indie game pixel art is minimalistic garbage with no effort.
Post dungeon synth that swings

>Middle Ages
So based. The genre defining album for me. No other album captures that old school RPG feeling and goes from such an array of light and dark moments, it's really like exploring a medieval world. I hope one day his other tape emerges from the dungeons.
Where can I find this?
It’s the album that got me into the genre
Apparently some people have the tape but it’s never been released online and they don’t plan on releasing it.
dammit
What are some innovative and forward looking dungeon synth albums that still pay respect to the roots? What do you see for the future of dungeon synth?
David Sylvian invented Dungeon Synth in 1980!

whatever the new casket of dreams will be when it comes out
Nice find, always makes me grin when I watch keyboard demos on youtube which basically sound like dungeon synth by accident. Here's a compilation of electronic music from around 1979 in Niger which reminds me a lot of the chiptune and casio subgenre.

I would assume there are a ton of people into DS who came over from black metal through Mortiis and Varg. Does anyone know of DS that also features some clean guitar arpeggios like pic-related from Summoning? Or is guitar (even clean or atmospheric) simply not something in the genre?
Emyn Muil
Caladan Brood
lads this is fucking hilarious
Thanks, will check them out tonight.
What's your opinion on the recent releases by Nameless King/Halberdier? Some of the best stuff in 2019 so far for me

Wish I could remember the names right now, maybe someone knows the albums. One of them has a windmill on the cover and the other one is tagged something like post dungeon synth and has a green cover with a tree on it or something. Both of these were the most heavily guitar based ds albums I heard. Just tried looking around on badncamp but couldn't find them. They aren't from this year.
Appreciate the effort. I will continue your search.
How can you listen to this shit Pleb. Go listen to tool instead.
I miss you lads
I just found one of them but I misremembered the guitar part. Very unique and interesting album nonetheless.

This is pretty good and really does like dungeon synth by accident.
While more on the black metal side of things, like Summoning, Oath of Cirion has some of the most medieval sounding keyboards. Very epic stuff with the majesty of dungeon synth.
youtube.com
this is pretty neat
Holy shit. This might be my new thing.
Can you guys recommend more narrative like dungeon synth? A lot of the new stuff i hear tends to be dark ambient or more like depressive silence ii. I wanna hear more music like Middle Ages or Gothmogs Medieval Journey. Dungeon synth that has a “story”
Chaucerian Myth
Wongraven
Krampusnacht
Pumpkin Witch
Jim Kirkwood
Most releases on HDK are usually based on stories and strictly spelled out. Some relases on bandcamp do the same while other can give you and idea via the titles. I'll post a few I can remember at the top of my head. Most are more lofi/fantasynth

I don't know much DS but I was listening to this earlier it was posted on the facebook group entesynth.bandcamp.com
Thanks bros
I play dungeon synth for my dungeons and dragons campaign. What would be a good album to play while they explore a dungeon full of bandits, goblins, bugbear, and a wizard and his nothic pet?
Unironically this
KOBOLD and OWLBEAR
I wish we finished this chart last December. Maybe this year.
>no Cathedral-core
post what you own or stuff you like
oh no you dont
Holy shit this is perfect thanks man. Is there a finished one somewhere?
It never got finished during /dsd/. Maybe this year.
Maybe check out some more idyllic work. Fief, Chronicles of Jest, and Chaucerian Myth all fit that pretty well
no one's gonna post burzum? varg invented dungeon synth. or is that too obvious?
Click this, it's worth it:
Mortiis is generally regarded as the father of the genre. Varg only played interludes until prison.
Goddamn that art is sick
Thanks this great man. Anything else like this?
