BFD's good, but not that good. Outside of the opening and the closing track, which are among better things Quorthon has done, it doesn't fare well with the other 5 I've mentioned. Under is Bathory's magnum opus and untouchable in that regard if you want adrenaline surging through your veins, and then there's Hammerheart which embodies the best elements of Quorthon's viking era.

Nothing can compare to Bathory. Quorthon is exceptional. Not a single bad album out of 12 albums.

not him, but I would say there are actually some objective measures of a "good riff", and depending on what you're looking for certain factors will matter more than others

dynamics are important (a classically metal riff is essentially palm muted 8th or 16th notes accented with power chords). where the accents are placed can add to rhythm.

development *of* the riff is another. you can keep repeating the same riff over and over again, but that doesn't make it interesting (there are exceptions, of course)

melody, harmony, and rhythm. certain subgenres highlight these aspects more than others. a Meshuggah riff is a lot more rhythmic than melodic, while an Iron Maiden riff is more melodic but carries the same galloping rhythm throughout

an objectively shitty riff would be A) repetitive (no development) B) lacking in melody, rhythm, harmony, and C) not dynamic

First of all a riff, not metal riffing, which consists of riffs. A riff is rhythmically distinguishable because it's a sequence of notes in time. It's in no way supposed to be harmonically or melodically distinguishable. There are famous riffs that consist of 1 note.

No it's not wrong, most rock music is riff-based, it's not in the vein of folk/classical singing traditions with melody and its harmonic accompaniment being primary elements.

That's a narrow definition of harmony. Music doesn't have to contain complex classical/jazz harmony to have harmony. Even a power chord (perfect 5ths) is technically harmony. But there are loads of metal bands that have dual guitar riffs that create harmony when they interact. And atmospheric black metal is pretty much tremolo-picked chords.
