>I believe that you can't sit down and say "This record is going to be really weird, nothing else is ever going to sound like this", `cause that's crap. The Pop Group are the greatest example of that. The Pop Group's stuff is good, but they tried so hard to be different, they just fell flat on their faces, and innovators don't do that. When you dissect the Pistols they were a sub-Who heavy metal band. It came out beautiful because it was unconscious.
The most punk bands ever are objectively G.I.S.M. and The KLF
That’s a pretty based opinion on Green Day.
this is unbelievably embarrassing
>The most punk band ever is a manufactured boyband
Daily reminder that powerviolence is the only legitimate American punk.
Absolutely horrendous opinions desu
>green day is more punk than the stooges and the ramones
ok
Alternatively.
It's a pretty soi opinion.
Dead Kennedys is punk for punk tourists
I see you have no arguments.
Is kevin dead?
>G.I.S.M
shut up weeb
are these comics Merzbow Approved?
Sex Pistols are literally The Monkees for a new generation. Not a real band
They were making way more interesting shit than most of their contemporaries.
G.I.S.M. were notorious for their confrontational attitude and violent live performances; frontman Sakevi was known for being particularly dangerous and unpredictable during live shows. Sakevi's live antics include running into the crowd with a chainsaw, attacking front rows with a lit flamethrower, throwing fireworks at the crowd, beating random concertgoers with a club, threatening the audience with a loaded revolver, and firing gun shots on stage. Early shows of the band included very violent visual media such as footage from Vietnam war and vivisection videos. Sakevi has also done time in prison for acts of violence unrelated to the band; one reported incident involved Sakevi attacking a salaryman in the Tokyo subway for staring at him, and he also allegedly stabbed a man for wearing a bootleg G.I.S.M. shirt. Sakevi was also known for attacking fans and especially journalists and photographers who tried to approach him.
Name a more punk frontman you tourist.
Nips are too cucked to be punk.
oh jesus my eyes are rolling out of my head
GG Allins was the punkest motherfucker alive
Yet some of them are fucking based and far more punk than your actually cucked communist garbage
youtube.com
literally who
wrong, green day is just one above blink
the only good shit they put out was their trilogy+insomniac, fuckin ramones are more punk
>no Crass
Pleb-o-meter
>some gay “art” film
>beret
What IS punk anyway?
They didn't rank GG. Poseurs.
Unlikely.
This guy's such a brainlet holy shit.
>le do wacky things on stage is "reel punk" argument
fuck off
>the music is probably the least important aspect of punk rock
how can you like a genre while claiming the music is not important
And they shouldn't. His music sucked.
>>no gg allin
lmao the most important part about being punk is making sure you shop at hot topic
>industry plants are the most punk band ever
Fuck off
mom's gonna FREAK when she hears this
Because the ramones and sex pistols music was good eh
>industry plants
Source?
t. Dead Kennedys fan
Ain't nothing more punk than Suicide
why would you assume that?
>who is Malcolm Mcclaren?
i dunno
zoomer detected
I don't see anything wtong with this. Pubk has always been a fucking garbage movement that didn't give the slightest shit about the music and was entirely a social/fashion thing. Lumping based bands like The Stooges with the kind of poseurs that are considered "true punk" is just shameful.
Based, MES was always right. He predicted 9/11.
CALIFORNIA,UBER ALLIES,CALIFORNIA UBER ALLIES UBER ALLIES CALIFORNIA UBER ALLIES CALIFORNIAAA
this but unironically. punk has nothing to do with music
Why do they play music then?
>hasn't attended GG allin show
>likely born after his death
>"you guys are such posers"
Based.
The sex pistols being manufactured makes them more even more punk. So punk they rejected the very notion of punk
What about the music tho
Punk is for teen pseuds anyway.
Boowy is more punk than GISM.
So were is hung like hanratty on that list?
youtube.com
Fixed it
I'm not saying it doesn't make them punk
but they are industry, not plants, but the industry formed them
Punk is for fags anyway.
wheres discharge
Yeah I can't argue with that. Entirely true. Very paradoxical but very interesting
This is also cringe
even nirvana is more punk than green day and the manufactured boy band sex pistols
Not punk.
based, the only thing more punk than the sex pistols is GG
>le angry poopy man
how
>alive
Cringe...
>The Ramones is far down the scale
...ing at people who failed to recoginze this as based
where the fuck are these comics are coming from ?
I know people on this board are full of shit generally but when it comes to punk, you people know less than nothing.
I can't help but notice there's a lot of underaged people on here that don't know where this comes from
He turned into a tranny. Seriously.
>GREEN DAY ABOVE BAD RELIGION AND RACID
BWHAWHAAHA
didn't merzbow play in a fucking black sabbath cover band in high school? this triggered me
This has to be a joke, right? Like, nobody in their right mind would put Green Day and The Sex Pistols above The Stooges, right?
where do gorilla biscuits place on this meter
posers
This is the only punk you need
It was made by an autist years ago and he was completely serious. Dude used to get mocked by Yea Forums and rym users.
GrrrrrrRRRRRRRRR
Imagine caring more about the perception of a band then actually enjoying the music
Pic related is objectively the most punk band, and they only have one punk album
It was at least influential. All GG Allin influenced was a generation of kids to smoke rock
The Smiths are more punk than the Sex Pistols
punk fucking sucks
check em
prove me wrong.
probably worse than OP's. congratulations?
yes it was dumbfuck. GG Allin's music is nothing more than cringe and tryhard and edgy on purpose
3-chord dorks, a webcomic by a dadrocker. The site is dead, so now it survives in various archives. Yea Forums bullied him a lot.
>cucked
>communist
the OP is cringe and bluepilled out of normie ignorance. yours is cringe and bluepilled because you're obviously a punk tourist
These read like Yea Forums greentexts
>punk
>literally a boyband created to sell overpriced clothes to bourgeois kids
I'd say kevin and Yea Forums influenced each other in unpredictable ways.
Isn't Kevin a girl now?
Bait.
You're thinking of This Heat
See
GISM always felt more more kin to the metal community imo
When is kevin gonna kill itself?
the ramones should be lower
Go lick Stalin's boots you autistic larper.
Nah. Stalin wasn't that bad. If he is really that cucked he would become a shit-eating tranny like most of punk faggots
>There cannot, and will not, be another band more punk than the Sex Pistols. This band caused more mayhem and disorder than is humanly possible. At their very first gig they trashed another band's instruments. They got kicked out of nearly every venue they played at for starting fights. More than half of the locations on their first UK tour banned them from playing. They proved image was everything. Guitarist Steve Jones said "We're not really into music. We're into chaos." Singer Johnny Rotten said "All we're trying to do is destroy everything." Bassist Sid Vicious didn't even know how to play the bass. He was chosen because he fit the image, and the band had to call in their previous bassist to record songs. But somehow, despite all that, they still wrote some of the best anarchy-inspired punk rock songs in history. They looked, lived, and played the part.
You know they existed before he came around? I bet you're a fan of the clash, faggot.
You literally cannot explain why noise is good without "muh textures".
For real, why are punks so whipped?
this is the greatest album in any genre ever made, but other good punk albums do exist to be fair
isn't that the misfits
Misfits at least are fun.
Why does punk have to only be about "Muh violence"?
Don't bother answering, by the way. Judging by your post, you're incapable of a reasonable reply, because you're using a music genre to vent your anger issues.
"Punk" was and is a genre, a mindset, and an attitude. It was what it was, depending on where you where, and when you were listening. Late 70's UK, it was a political/social thing. 70's NYC and the Ramones, it was a social/fashion thing.
Always cracks me up, that when speds talk about punk, they never talk about the real ethos of it - diy, non-corporate, indy/underground, community, expression, energy, expression.
Punk was a REACTION, and a gathering of like minded people who looked at the government, corporate rock, and corporate society, and said "fuck you, this is our thing." I'm not even a true punk, but tons of my friends were. I know punks, and it's not this thread, or the brainless tryhard who made the graphic in OP's post. Green Day, punk? LOL. No. They were spit on and made fun of at Ruthie's before they sold their souls willingly to the record company. Hey, more power to them, they got nice and rich off their simple power pop and fake British accent - but they haven't been punk for a long, long fucking time.
All you speds do is focus on the negative aspects of it, especially the violence - "It was like uh so COOL the Pistols had fights at all of their shows" - no it wasn't fucking cool, you brainless fart, they had fights because people were coming into the club to attack them. You probably think some dickless skinhead flailing around a pit randomly punching people is "So sick, brah!", too, right?
The "industry" did not form them, Mclaren did, and it was to sell shitty clothes from his shop. The "industry" was horrified by the Pistols. The "industry" did everything it could to shut them down. It was all purposeful by McLaren, who wanted to be the UK version of Andy Warhol, who he saw in action when he went to NY, and saw Warhol's crowd, and the Dolls.
Punk has always been a bourgeoise movement.
Did tou even quote the right post? You're proving my point. Punk has absolutely nothing to do with music.
t. brainlet
>Sex Pistols
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YES I KNOW THIS IS BAIT BUT I AM LEGITIMATELY UPSET
The sex pistols fucking suck you degenerate ape
But Nirvana was also a manufactured boy band.
Unitonically this. A faggot from a a jangle pop band is more punk than most of the frauds in OP’s chart.
kek you actually sat down and typed that entire paragraph? Holy shit
This kid thinks being an asshole retarded manbaby is what makes you punk.
He's not entirely wrong.
wtf son
> black flag's a fraud
> Henry Rollins is a fraud
that's pretty fucking stupid
As far as early recording punk/hardcore goes, I would rank personally:
Dead Kennedys>Deep Wound>Husker Du>Black Flag.
Are Sex Pistols good punk/hardcore?
I never really listened to 70s punk because Ramones always seemed like shit to me and turned me off.
Where does Iggy Pop rate?
>iggy pop
I don't listen to Michigan artists to be honest.
Also the Stooges are a bunch of stooges.
Get rekt.
Really? Rollins is the guy you choose to defend? Fucking Henry Rollins?
I never really listened to the stooges either, just kinda got into the genre with husker du and looking for reccs.
Only problem is my tracker of choice doesn't have the disco for them or sex pistols.
I miss sharethreads here, maybe I just don't come enough or DCMA has taken them all away. That is where I got most of my music.
>green day
>blink 182
>on a list of punk bands..
None of this matters.
>tfw tell my GF that none a this matters and she thinks I'm suicidal again
wew?
GG Allin was the punkest, dweeb.
If yr list doesn't include Crass yr a dummy.
Punk is dead. It has been dead for fifteen years
Punk is Dead came out in 1978 yo
>I don't listen to Michigan artists to be honest.
What an oddly specific criteria for not listening to an artist.
what? source?
>tfw the Dead Kennedys didn't produce a single new song since Jello was kicked out
Guess we all know who was the creative brains behind the band.
CRASS is the PUNKIEST of all punk bands.
damn...
Melvins are the greatest punk band of all time. Why?
- they started out playing slow, extreme metal during the hardcore punk era when everyone was still trying to play faster than everyone else, a contrarian and uncool thing to do.
- eventually they influenced grunge by just continuing to do their own thing. Grunge was essentially just the first instance of punk music and aesthetics being marketed and sold to the masses successfully. Aside from giving them a short stint on a major label this had no affect on the band’s productivity or sound.
- At the same time they were sited as the reason why all the NOLA punk and metal bands began playing slow aggressive blends of punk and metal, creating sludge. Black Flag my war is sited as well but by this time Black flag had imploded.
- they have outlived all the bands that they influenced that rode these trends into the ground. They continue to tour regularly, release their own music, and do whatever unconventional stuff they want (a stint with 2 drummers, an acoustic tour, a tour with an upright bass player).
Basically, they did everything the wrong way to spite everyone and ended up with more long term, sustained success and respect than anyone else. Which is the whole mentality of punk.

What do you mean by your choice of colors?
punk in ethics and sound
judged based on the release which was the most punk, roughly
You have to go back
yeah
>which was the most punk
So basically a numbered system, then what is on top, or "more punk"?
Is Green more punk because it is Blue and Yellow combined?
Also does it take into account later releases that might be more post-hardcore/post-punk (like black flag, husker du, ).
nah dude it's this

Samurai Spirit Skinheads (SSS) are Japanese skinheads who have deep ties of their native nationalist movements. The Werewolfen compilation from 1995 by Vulture Rock Records / Steve Priest Fan Club highlighted their scene and movement which consequently earned them international fandom. Perhaps the most famous of the SSS bands is Sledge Hammer, whose name struck a chord with wider audiences as being very similar to Skrewdriver. The band transformed from the Japanese interpretation of British Oi! towards whiskey-fueled Heavy Rock on 日本狼 (Wolves of Japan) with songs as influenced by Motörhead as they were by Skrewdriver.
Japanese skinheads were influenced by the Nazi imagery and nationalist / right-wing politics coming from the British, European, and American RAC scenes. They felt it was logical to identify and be “allied with” white right-wing skinheads from around the world - just as Hitler’s Germany allied with Japan in World War II. A lot of the early SSS bands were intensely nationalist, some even describing themselves as “Nazi skinheads”!
The SSS bands’ lyrics certainly deal with patriotic, nationalist, and even somewhat xenophobic subjects. There is little, if any, outright racism evidenced in SSS like their Western brethren. Due to that, and the rather serious language barrier, these bands have gotten a lot of notice from traditional non-political skinheads around the world. The varying right-wing skinhead factions accepted them to greater and lesser extents, too.

gg allin above sex poistols
based bad brainsbro
It's Ramones, Green Day, and Blink-182
Green Day's first concert was opening for Op Ivy's last concert, which is also the day that Rancid became a band because Op Ivy stopped being one. This chart doesn't even make any fucking sense. Go to a god damned concert, once in a while. The Sex Pistols sucked.
What the fuck is wrong with this board? Are you all actually retarded? You like The Clash, too? Just like literally every other human being on the face of planet Earth? Fuck yeah bruh, we're so punk!
"Well, no... Look, you've got to understand. Punk is not a form of music. It's a fashion statement. If you wanna talk about real punk music, you've gotta look at people like The Who, The Rolling Stones... The people who initially had that kind of punk attitude, that right-up-in-your-face thing. But they had a form of music to go along with it. This sort of thrashing away on a chord and just screaming abuse through a microphone doesn't constitute art to me."
"You know, you can call anything art, right? You say it's art, it's art. But I don't think the music will stand up in the test of time. The fashion may. It may be a fashion icon thing with the safety pin through the nose, the kilt, the stupid, spiky hair and all that. But really, what does it stand for other than trying to jump on the publicity bandwagon to make money from rock music? That's all it was. Then following that, it was a genre a week. New Wave, garage... There was a genre a week."
Hard Mode: This chart again using only bands that have released an album in the last five years.
were any other prog rockers as assblasted about punk as he was? what was his damage?
gg was a comedian
his music didnt have a message, it was just shock and rebellion for its own sake
Good question. Quote from the same article was funny: "Although his input on rock music is often overlooked and underrated, the work of Lake and co. Didn't pass unnoticed by the punk movement, causing much hatred among the upcoming punk bands. One of such bands were the legendary Sex Pistols, whose loathing of ELP was way beyond normal, as one of their '70s live shows trademarks included burning life-size statues of keyboard player Keith Emerson."
I know Pink Floyd were reviled in the punk scene as well, for obvious reasons.
>they proved that image was everything
>were not really into music, were into chaos!
God punk is so fucking lame, and so is anyone who identifies as one.
>Top of the list: faggy homo trans-propaganda bands
The "punk mindset" is retarded. Why would you judge a genre mainly on non musical factors? When a majority of judgement surrounding punk bands is talking about selling out and their image, it's obvious that the quality of the music itself is pretty far down the priority list for people who make such judgments.
Half of those aren't even punk
Powerviolence is literally Grindcore without death metal vocals
Yes
Limp Wrist is great, dude.
Punk is shit no matter how authentic it is. Thrash metal is everything punk wanted to be.
I like 90’s post-hardcore and mathcore.
So punk its not even punk anymore
objectively
FUCK EVERY BAND THAT ISN'T THE DAMNED
No.
Someone please post the Kevin parody comics

Definitely will be listening to these this week. Thanks.
>the music is probably the least important aspect of punk rock
only annoying faggots believe this. The most important aspect of punk is getting rid of self-indulgent wankery into fast, catchy, loud, and to-the-point songs
friendly reminder that if you aren't british or american you can't be punk, as that would imply letting imperialist powers dictate your culture
This image reeks of PBR
