>years ago Trogly came up in my suggested videos >played violin but not guitar, checked him out >spiralled into interest in getting my own guitar, bought it from his shop >enjoy playing guitar, thanks to him >two days ago e-mail him asking him what he thought about xyz >"Sorry bud, Paypal me $10 or I won't talk to you" >actually do it for some reason >he's rude, crass, short >paid $10 for a 15 word reply >my "idol" is an asshole
Lads, I played violin pretty seriously through high school and was pretty good. I quit because I wasn't interested in playing in college and I'm not all that into music with violins.
I tried to pick up the guitar a few years ago and lost interest in it in about two months. I've been feeling like picking it up again, any advice to make the learning process more fun or so that I don't quit after two months? I like a lot of guitar based music, but guitar just didn't stick with me.
Christian Long
thats pretty cringey bro
Thomas Sullivan
Just learn and play songs you like bro. That's what most of the greats did.
Camden Foster
Do you even like guitar music? If not, don't bother
Eli Evans
>it's some time before 1972 >you pick up your first electric guitar in a store >unfortunate for you, Smoke on the Water wasn't written yet
Any guitar is only as good as the guy playing it Also g&l have really masterd making good sounding, affordable teles
Owen Baker
>believing anything actually posted by faggots on this board
Get a Fender Strat
Parker Morgan
HSS strat is the only good guitar.
Logan Roberts
This is an opinion typical of 15 year-olds who dress in all black and wear tiny Vans.
Mason Nguyen
What guitar will be the next Jazzmaster ie a guitar that was overlooked and relatively affordable but get popular and pricey?
Brayden Russell
have had a MIA one for 10 years, but i want something another electric now. /gg/ cant seem to make a single suggestion that isnt immediately contradicted though
try a different instrument. Try bass or drums next
Benjamin White
I want to get a Stratocaster but I'm having a hard time finding one that ticks all the right boxes.
>no vintage tuners >maple fretboard >satin finish a plus >HSS or SSS >something other than Fender's ceramic pickups (found in MIM Standard, many MIJs) >22 frets
For such a basic list of specs, I can find almost nothing under $2000.
Like the cheapest Strat without Fender ceramics is $1000 MIA Special and it shits on the rest of my spec requests.
Jaxon Nguyen
Based and Kingpilled
Noah Murphy
Have you tried not being poor? You can also swap pickups easily.
Joshua Hughes
>implying boomer will buy a anything but a Custom Shop Limited Edition 100th Anniversary Reissue model
If you have to upgrade pickups away from stock, you shouldn't buy that guitar. It should sound good out of the box. Try not being a dumbass next time, faggot.
Jack Miller
>bitches and moans about not being able to afford a guitar that ticks all of his boxes when he could get one that's 95% there, make some simple modifications and have money left over for that Bad Dragon product he craves so much >somehow I'm the dumbass here Really gets the old noggin joggin'
Take the black pill and learn that you can play whatever guitar you want and you just need to put Malagolis on it and it will sound good
Aaron Lopez
/gg/ is slow on Saturday morning because all the tired old boomers are getting extra sleep on their day off slavery
Julian Thompson
After someone posted this video in a /gg/ one time: youtube.com/watch?v=KF3qeEgYA6s it made me want to put down my guitar and never pick it back up again. However that could have just been the final straw after spending time on r/guitar.
There's some pretty good Squier guitars in the 400 euro range
Landon Hall
> go on thomann.de and filter for a guitar with those specs > get a gorillion results
Brandon Collins
It'll be playable with a six-saddle bridge, a new pickguard and a refinish.
Aiden James
I bought a second-hand MIA that meets all those requirements for £700. I don't know why this is a problem, there are a fucking billion strats out there.
Why did that video make you want to stop playing guitar?
Blake Sanchez
I would have been dumb enough to buy this when I was in college. I now know better than to buy a three saddle Tele, or to try to be someone else instead of myself.
Xavier Peterson
youtube.com/watch?v=R_RedkHDifA Yeah, he's great. I didn't know who he was, despite loving The Allman Brothers Band, until someone posted him here. It's pretty common for touring musicians to keep their nice, expensive guitars at home and tour with cheaper, expendable guitars. You'd understand if you ever went on tour. Shit happens to guitars on tour.
Michael Thomas
i need some rock/metal song recs that arent just the same 3 riffs then a solo

>PRS is just a misshapen gibson >jackson dinky is a misshapen strat. >They evade copyright to pay the blls >ESP copies the dinky and calls it the Horizon while hoping nobody notices, and sells it for slightly less than the dinky. >They also copy the soloist (another wannabe strat) and call it an M-II >copy the King V (a wannabe gibson) and call it the Arrow >Jackson loses most of its customers due to all the copyright infringement on the part of companies like ESP and Ibanez >The factory that makes the cheaper gutiars for ESP happens to be making cheap guitars for PRS. >One day a lazy worker accidentally glues a PRS neck to an ESP body. >Schecter is born.
Friedman Dirty Shirley Mini. Sounds fantastic, particularly the attack, and suits my needs (i.e., low wattage, portable, wide range of gain). It's a bit bassy, but not to the point where the EQ can't tame it. Definitely worth hearing if you've never played one, but I'd recommend getting one second-hand rather than new.
James White
Which one bros? I am going to see the Joiner again today. Left one is how it currently is.
>the only original authentic instrument in the picture is the ugliest ibanez to ever exist >owns a les paul copy because he spent all his money on multiple shitty guitars instead of one good one
Do you guys discuss pedals here? I need some crazy reverb that can do more than just vanilla verbs, something as weird as possible, but I have no idea where to look. So far I found Reverberation Machine by Death By Audio but I wouldn't mind something a bit cheaper.
Kevin Watson
left.
Bentley Reed
Start over.
Joshua Lewis
>he's a "soundscapist" because he can't actually play guitar
Imagine actually using anything except a genuine spring reverb. Imagine being that poor.
Gavin Bailey
Oh yeah. That's another one I did look at, thanks for reminding me. How crazy can it get? I know a lot of people here will shitpost about it, but I'm looking for a noise rock sound, and also looking to add it to my straight up noise equipment for more dynamics.
Robert Butler
you need a low-pass filter and pre-delay with any reverb and most pedals lack this
Jacob Bell
I'm not sure about the lack of prr-delay, but I dont mind not having a low pass filter. I mostly just want to make fucked up noisy stuff, basically
Oh yeah, I'm definitely checking Earthwuaker too, but some of them can be a pain to get where I live.
Caleb Rivera
naming a guitar with numbers like a computer part is a sure sign it has no tone
Ryan Cruz
You can get some crazy sounds out of the Strymon Big Sky, TimeLine and Volante, too. They've got so much tweakability that you can persuade them to do really ugly things.
imagine spending over a hundred dollars on a synth unit that's paleolithic in terms of functionality and possibilities compared to real electronic music gear
guitar pedals are a joke. pedalboards are modular synths for brainlets.
Josiah Bailey
500 bucks is wat out of my budget, but appreciate it anyway!
Justin Williams
Is the Flying V a meme or is it a good first guitar?
Samuel Cooper
they're stage guitars for posing with
Thomas Nelson
I think about getting a 21 inch, because that's apparently the one with the most classical ukulele sound, but I'm worried it might be too small for me to comfortably use.
Matthew Jones
No worries. Might find one second hand if it really floats your boat.
Jonathan Anderson
Are they fun to play solo? I love the look and have been looking at them all day online
Joshua Price
You can really only play them standing up, sitting down you have to adopt a modified classical position with crossed legs.
Adam Diaz
>looking at them all day online
ISHYGDDT
Ian Hughes
I'll def write it down and keep my eye out on Reverb.com. Local second hand is useless.
Bentley Murphy
Can you buy an attachment to make them play like regular guitars when you sit?
The only thing about his spec that is remotely price-related is not wanting ceramic pickups. Fuck, he could by a second-hand Squier and upgrade the pups. He must be an idiot not to be able to find those specs among all the strats out there.
Liam Smith
tfw got my ears cleaned by an ENT and now all music sounds harsh in the lower highs/high mids
Wyatt Bell
i think it's better to preserve the part that touches the leg so it remains good to play sitting
I don't know about teles but I agree with your second point. I don't see the fun in spending lots of money on someone else's guitar, unless it's extremely unique and not just a paintjob. Why would I want a guitar that looks like one Jimi Hendrix set fire to? He didn't give a shit about it so why would I?
Elijah Collins
So... the mids, then?
Fuck off, Sammy.
Colton Jenkins
Godin Session Custom 59. Extremely good quality and fun to play but has a very thick pickguard, leaving less space between the strings and the body, meaning I have had to be more precise with my picking hand.
Chase Hill
I want to be able to use tuxguitar in a similar fashion to ultimate guitar pro wherein you can play along with a prerecorded tab. Where can I find those types of tabs for free? Thanks frens.
Xavier Murphy
Left. Stop fucking with it and move on to the rest of the guitar.
Brody Wright
i'm listening to bb king loud cause i want the music to enter my body and soul
For playing chords: Wild thing House of the rising sun Knocking on heavens door Gloria American Pie
For picking: Run through the jungle In the light Heart of lothian
For power chords: Iron man You really got me
These are some that I've been practicing. Eventually you'll get like me where even though you can't play for shit, you can listen to a song and tell if it should be easy to play. It's worth just looking up tabs or chords for your favourite songs. Some of them are easier than you think.
Oliver Robinson
>you can listen to a song and tell if it should be easy to play damn did it take you effort to be able to that lmao
Before I picked up a guitar, all rock music sounded like wizardry to me. So yeah, it did take a couple of months to realise a lot of these songs are easier to play than they seem
Jack Campbell

Evan Edwards
John Mayer & The Bluesbreakers
Joshua Edwards
You would have to get to the point of having multiple guitars where you can play The Flying V on stage and you other guitars sitting down.
Evan Cox
I unironically dont know if this is ironic or not
Xavier Morris
Good list.
Wyatt Parker
You can play a V sitting.
Ethan Wright
Hey Yea Forums I've gotta pass this placement test so I can get into this music fine arts class. The test is just there to confirm that you took music theory classes in high school, but I didn't because >muh a minor pentatonic. Anyone have any good cheat sheets?

A couple of tips for you fags:
Don't learn positions on the guitar. play diagonally across the neck from low to high strings
Fuck the modes, except for dorian and mixolydian. You'll be using those 99% of the time.
Learn to play in the pocket. Guitar players have the worst time feel.
Landon Diaz
Well yeah
Ayden Rogers
jcum is the wallet poster and he post his dean lester clone every week.

If you don't mean it, don't say it.
Elijah Cooper
I didn't say it, I typed it. If you don't mean it, don't type it.
>posted that video on the Modern DC the other day >addressed its main criticism of being a PRS knockoff >"b-b-but the original DC Jr was copied by Hamer, then PRS stemmed from it" >"A-a-and the PRS single cut is just a LP knockoff" I suppose I can understand someone's devotion to a particular brand, but the mental gymnastics of that video dented my impression of him

SG > Les Paul
Dylan Mitchell
It comes down to preference. I thought the same as you. SG is lighter, thinner and more comfortable. But after trying both in a guitar store, I preferred the LP. Which is funny because I'd convinced myself that I would hate it beforehand for all the reasons I just mentioned.
Connor Peterson
It's pretty heavy actually. Wish it was lighter
Juan Miller
>any given guitar model, every manufacturer >only available in 3-4 colors
Today was the first time I played an actual Gibson and I couldn't believe how much of a difference does the short scale make, how the fuck is a grown man supposed to play above 15th fret with this toy guitar. I'm a tall guy, but I'm in no way that off the normal range, no wonder that Gibsons are always shilled with that anime bullshit in this thread, only prepubescent asian girls could be comfortable with a Gibson. However I must admit, that it sounded pretty good, it's a shame that it's so awkward to play.
Evan Powell
justlankletthings
Ian Gutierrez
Why do you need to play above the 15th fret? There's no money above the 5th fret
Camden James
Yeah I know, but it's nice to have that option if you want to.
Adam Nelson
Slash seems ok with it. Dough Aldrich, Justin Derrico and Buckethead too. These guys are all over 6'2"
Benjamin Stewart
Doug aldrich should be the face of the modern les Paul player. Hes way better than slash
Aiden Peterson
HEY FAGNUT, THE LINK FOR CHORDBOOK DOESN'T FUCKIN WORK
Justin Martinez
Buckethead plays a baritone.
Yeah it does lol
Gavin Hernandez
>how the fuck is a grown man supposed to play above 15th fret with this toy guitar. What's your problem and why is it not being good enough? I'm tall and have abnormally thick fingers despite being at my ideal BMI and I have no problems with the higher frets on LPs. Git gud, boy.
Big ol' fat Warren Haynes has fucking sausages for fingers and has no problems with the upper frets on LPs.
Caleb Edwards
Got any DANK RIFFS?
Owen Ortiz
Are NYXL strings worth it?
Christopher Lewis
few days of playing and every string feels and sound the same
Grayson Wilson
Anyone else here use Troy grady’s Stuff? I started downward pickslanting and I’m finally able to play faster bebop stuff. Now I just need to get it smoother and get my left hand in check to match it
Matthew Ward
Anyone run 2 springs in their strat? I like the really low tension on the bar. You DO float your tremolo... right user?
Bentley Ross
Fuck that faggot and his gay haircut. Fuck his over analytical bullshit. You think all those great players he has on watched his videos? This is shit you figure out yourself
Jacob Murphy
Everyone should pay the $10 to tell him he's a cunt
My teacher wants me to learn intervals, triads and scales. Wtf is this shit man? I just want to rock
Kevin Phillips
He makes a point that the genius of these virtuosic players are able to figure it out for themselves. A lot of players don’t have the natural talent for that (including myself) and so he analyzes their playing to see what we can learn from them. I’ve gone from not being able to play 8th note lines at upper medium jazz tempos (like 230-270) to being able too because of his videos. I can play some licks well beyond that in the 300+ range but I don’t have my technique together yet. This attitude that you need to figure everything out intuitively is really bizzare. It’s no different than having a classical guitar method book for left hand, it’s the first systemic approach to picking. Tell me, if I continue to use Troy grady’s Info to develop my picking technique and get to a point where I can shred, what am I going to be missing out on? It’s a much more efficient use of time
dont like his lascivious sight like he is up to something.
Lincoln Rogers
Why do you want to go so fast anyway? I really don't see why guitarists are obsessed with speed
Easton Stewart
>Go to guitar store need some picks, guard and a tuner >See bro who helped me when buying my guitar >is on lunch break, points me to his coworkers >tell coworker need a tuner >brings me $20 snark tuner >tell him to go get me the $10 one >"we don't have anymore of those" >you know user just said you have them in the back, go grab it >"nah we don't got any" >ok well then go fuck yourself >silence all heads turn to me Sam Ash hah never again maybe i should just return the guitar just to spite them.
Brayden Johnson
could be PRS SE are made of a light mahogany species.
James Adams
What a retarded reply. The argument means no musician ever can use any sort of method book because it’s cheating if they can’t figure it out through divine intuition
Samuel Clark
This. I like to hear actual melodies, maybe the odd bit of speed hear and there but shredders bore to tears. Check out a boomer called Keith Scott
Leo Sanchez
I don’t want to go so “fast”. I play straight ahead jazz and part of that music is being virtuosic at both slow and medium and fast tempos, troys videos help develop the technique for that. Just listen to pat martino or George benson. Or better yet the og’s like Parker and sonny Rollins. Chops is necessary to make it work most of the time.
Ok bro, if you're gonna follow his picking mechanics, focus on Andy Wood
Carson Jones
better buy a paula without maple top like the les paul studio faded 2003 all mahogany with burstbuckers pups, to be honest the maple top is unesessary.
Owen Reed
I’ve watched a lot of his videos and have an account on the forum and I already know which picking technique I’m using I don’t need you to tell me what to focus on. Just recommending him because I went from struggling to making more progress picking in the 6 months than I have in 4 years.
Caleb Perry
Gibsons look like they are made with considerably cheaper quality vs other brands, go buy PRS.
Sebastian Anderson
Making progress to more progress in the last six months*
Chase Long
Maple top is the LP tone though.
Ryan Flores
Theyre also pretty gay
Michael Ross
Good for buddy. Troy Grady is the best!
Blake Jones
nope, the LP growl comes from the mahogany not the maple.
Caleb Russell
Why are there no trans guitarists?
Elijah Ross
>both wrong Never change, /gg/.
Tyler Clark
I didn't say growl, I said tone. The maple cap is an important part of the tone.
Hunter Sanchez
if you knew what intervals were you would also know what triads are
Chase Davis
Who gives a fuck what its called
Juan Wright
Because if you can go fast you can go slow, not the other way around.
Andrew Gutierrez
Melodies and parts are often fast, you must be rather tone deaf to think speed is devoid of melody.
Nolan Morgan
supposedly it adds "definition" but i have played all mahogany paulas w/no maple and they have loads of "definition" and brightness.
>maple cap no thank you its too heavy
Robert Gonzalez
being able to play fast =\= constantly shredding. it's just another weapon in your arsenal, the more you have the best to make your playing interesting. If you know how to apply it and you do it with moderation, as with everything, it will sound good
Evan Lee
>t. teacher
Alexander Taylor
he's a pretty annoying person, but the pick slating stuff made me realize what i was doing wrong for so long. i don't play much shred stuff but i never understood how they were changing strings so fluidly. it gave me more awareness on why certain things i pick don't feel right and i can fix it quicker because i now know what i'm doing wrong
Boomers generally cope with their shitty playing by saying they play with feeling and dont play fast because it bores them. The result is amusing.
Jack Carter
>Learn to play in the pocket what does that mean
Hudson Murphy
It means you can just pull it out and play
Ryder Davis
I have small brazilian hands and I can play on the higher frets of my LP
Jace Ramirez
BIG BRAZILIAN DIGITS
Chase Howard
/gg/ shut down my idea of getting a Flying V as a beginner, so I've been looking at other guitars. Is this one any good lads? I like the offset body styling, and I can get it for $450. I'd need an amp, tuner, and probably some extra strings too but I think that'd be enough crap to start with. Any amp recommendations? I live in an apartment and don't need anything big.
the rhythmic groove, it's the most important part of playing. it also doesn't mean always landing exactly on time with a metronome, that is very helpful, but irl people aren't perfectly in time metronomes. some drummers lay back behind the beat, some drummers push, some know how to do both and use both accordingly.
Checked, those hands must've had been used on a lot of hard wood. Buy something cheap, they have kits with amps, then buy a nice guitar after you learn. Just because it's laminate doesn't mean it can't play.
Yeah that’s true but to go fast musically you need to be able to play fast and if you don’t have the technique you’re stuck. I don’t listen to shred metal, most modern guitar player I listen to is Kurt rosenwinkel who is very musical and has a lot of chops.
If you like the guitar buy it, everything is worth it if you like it. Just get an amp to match. Personally i would get a cheaper guitar and a good amp so when i upgrade, the amp will be good enough. Try it out first though, and don't listen to people on the internets. Also becareful since a lot of places push you for better gear when you don't need it.
Leo Rogers
I like it like how i have it because when i push it down it has a slightly bit more range than a bigsby and the body of the guitar stops the bar. And i can do some nice squeals with the extra room to lift.
Henry Lee
Oh and the shawbucker is a good balance to the songle coils. Its a low output warm semi twangy humbucker.
Henry Davis
What amp would you recommend lad?
Evan Russell
im anxious for the joiner finishing my guitar
Ryan Rivera
Can't wait for the shipwright to finish mine.
Nicholas Clark
what is he doing with it
Elijah Turner
Are these made out of dried mud?
Dylan Lee
it's pretty good for playing classical style, which is how you should be playing, even standing up
