How does indigenous music from the DR Congo music sound? What did they use before the Western man sold them guitars?

Pretty cool, will explore further
Hop on the general:
No. There are literally thousands of distinct tribal traditions throughout the continent of Africa that vary quite wildly.
For example, this Pedi autoharp band from Northern South Africa spliced their traditions with Portugese instrumentation, and the result is literally incomparable:
Of course Africa is mostly know for percussions but in DR Congo they have traditional string based instruments too
The music is still fundementally rhythm-based. It's just different from classic western composing, which follows a system based on hard math and science. African music does not do that. It's more similar to someone rapping over a beat.
It isn’t based on hard math and science LOL. But it is based on more elaborate ideas that are explored more deeply maybe?
music theory is based on math you idiot
The fact that Fela Kuti is still the only African artist of any worth shows you how far Africa has to go before it can be considered a serious continent.
Take the Bongo Flava pill

Funny how african black music and jazz are respected genres with some of the best artists of all time and yet rap is such a shitty commercial genre in general (im not saying theres no good albums but its been co-opted by the mainstream and most of it is shit).
Africa needs a NEGO NEY movement. To really stand out.
only partially and its often exaggerated
great post
