Scaruffi gave this 8/10

I agree but it's really not his worst opinion. I feel like it deserves to be around 6-6.5/10 (according to his rating system). You always have to remember with Scaruffi though, debuts typically get an extra point just for being debuts.

Gn'R is an undefinable band...they have elements of metal and even glam but are less "metal" than lots of the typical "hair bands" but they are grittier than most of them, they also have a lot of more Stones ish" rock n roll" swag and more punk attitude than most. They're just one of those undefineable "rock" bands, best to leave it at that.

Most metal isn't screaming and blast beats. But late 80s arena cock rock isn't metal either.

I think Scruffi is a fucking pleb but he's actually spot on with this one. It's a damn solid Hard Rock album but it is lacking in a few places, despite what some people who claim it's perfect may think. But overall it's a classic that stands the test of time despite coming out in an era filled with dated trash.

It's on the more commercial decadence focusd side of 80's metal known as glam metal or hair metal or cock rock or whatever, but it's undeniably metal.

Gn'R? Not so much, they have some metal songs in the mix and a definite metal influence but I agree they're not really a metal band. I also object to the idea that there was never metal in the 80's that was simultaneously "arena rock" or "cock rock". Heavy metal invented both of those things if you really think about it.
