Lorde's second album sold well and was well received critically. It took her 4 years between her debut and the 2017 followup and assuming a similar gestation period, she's not due to put out another album for another year or two. Wait till that comes out and tanks before you decide she's a fad.

Every major pop artist has particular relevance to their era but there's also plenty of pop acts that have longevity in their influence on music and notoriety among the public.
