i've been emotionally ripped to shreds

Jason Molina - Let Me Go
Kauffman & Caboor - Songs From Suicide Bridge
Purple Mountains - Purple Mountains
Molina, Elverum and Kozelek are the trinity of pain for me.
Amon - El Khela
most depressing album in existence. fight me
I agree though.
Soria Moria fucks me up the most, probably.
Now Only with the title track's absurdly major key chorus is a close contender though.
Soria Moria gets to me the most and it's always when he refers back to The Moon. That shit cuts deep
this is my go-to
incredibly underrated (imo), it's my favorite solo anco release
If you
>have a good relationship with either parent
>have had sex
>have had a gf/bf
>have had a decent job that you were respected in any degree at by anybody
>are generally a functioning adult in a 1st world country
You aren't fucking suffering and should just shut the fuck up or so us all a favor and actually kill yourself
being in a hole with no apparent way out is suffering, true
falling back into one after getting out is no better
There is nothing else
this is the one
Ah, the inevitable "YOU DONT KNOW WHAT FUCKING SUFFERING IS" guy; no emotionally honest thread is complete without you.
alien observer
>The towers on top of the mountain lit up slowly, silently beaconing
>As if to say "just keep going
>There is a place where a wind could erase this for you
>And the branches could white noise you back awake"
>So I went back to feel alone there but cradled you in me
For me it's this verse. The brief promise of fuzzy numbness paired with the knowledge that you can't really get away from the pain really gets to me.
You forgot
>if you don't have acne scars
>if you're not balding in your early 20s
If I'm feeling particularly edgy.
AN EMPTY 40 FULLER THAN MY LIFE
THERE MUST BE MORE SOMETIMES I DONT THINK SO
Holy based. Great and underrated album but I’m not sure I’d consider it “suffering core” in the same sense that kozalek is.
THE CLOUDS WILL PART AND THE SKY CRACKS OPEN
AND GOD HIMSELF WILL REACH HIS FUCKING ARM THROUGH
JUST TO PUSH YOU DOWN
JUST T-T-TO HOLD YOU DOWN, DOWN
I find sad female pop singers helpful.
Lene Marlins Playing my game. You have to skip the first track sitting down here and it is good after that.
Avril Lavigne falling to pieces
I'd agree, with the exception of a few DSBM albums (Silencer - Death, Pierce Me for example)
I love Benji but I have the feeling that most of the time when people discuss the album they haven't heard Mark's other work. I implore you to explore the rest of his catalog if you haven't. Old Ramon is my favorite of his, and it's easily the most dreary album I've ever heard.
Phil on this in his indieheads AMA:
> The inspiration to say "I went back to feel alone there" is because that's what I was doing, I was going back to Anacortes to be alone in the bed I'd shared with Geneviève (she was hospitalized). And also I was mulling on the obliteration of my past selves and future hopes. I explain it in the words to Soria Moria. So, referring to that older song was an illustration of me reckoning with the erasure of that past self.
OP here, I've listened to all Red House Painters and solo releases by Kozelek.
I just find Benji to be the most depressing.
What the FUCK do people like about Benji? It's Koz's worst album by a country mile.
I must admit - despite loving virtually every other album in this thread - I can't stand Benji, I think it's horrifically boring and Kozolek comes across as a total wanker.
its got happy songs like i love my dad though
Really? His new stuff resembles podcasts more than albums.
Benji is not the only one I like, but it was the first one I've heard back in '14 so it's special to me. Now I admit, some parts of it irk me, like him saying that writing "Carissa" would make the tragedy somehow meaningful.
>WAH WAH MY WIFE DIED WA-
NO ONE CARES FAGGOT
For some reason that contrast between suffering and having good people in your life found in the album only makes it hit harder for me.
Likely because it mirrors my own life more than other albums which do not have a single moment of hope or happiness.
I do.
This is incredibly stupid. Look I can do it too:
If you:
>Have eaten any food in the last week
>Didn’t have your spine snapped by your parents at birth so you could earn more money begging
>Don’t have any life threatening illnesses
>Live in a 1st world country
>Live off more than $1 a day
You don’t know suffering so shut the fuck up etc.
Everyone experiences suffering regardless of environment.
FUCK OFF
YOU TRY TO MAKE THINGS WORK AND GAIN SOMETHING ITS ALL NO USE ITS ALL WORTH NOTHING COMPLETE SATISFIED TOO IMPOSSIBLE TO BELIEVE NOTHINGS EVER FUCKING GONNA WORK FOR ME
Listened to it once the day my grandmother passed. It had its effect then and I don't see a reason to come back to it.
I really like Admiral Fell Promises, I've listened to that one a lot.
It’s really raw and direct
these and Giles Corey
based
>I know that you're dying
>and I know I'm unwell
>toghether we sachay
>trough variations of hell
