well sell both those to someone in need of firewood and you'll be able to afford a nice used gibson with the proceeds
Jaxson Flores
I've been playing for over a decade and I know zero theory, I have horrible playing habits, and any time I try to write a song, it sounds uninspired and unskilled. Should I try to overwrite my bad habits and learn theory, or should I try to learn something new like piano? I'm not absolutely in love with guitar, I mainly see it as a songwriting tool.
James Butler
Theory is a tool. If you couldn't come up with something without it you'll be just as shit with it.
I mean, I've been playing on and off for over 10 years, but I still can basically only play power, barre, and open chords.
Matthew Jones
Ahh yes the sunburst nigger
Jordan Allen
And you think that, if given knowledge of theory, you'd play anything but basic harmonies instead of using it as a box to look outside of? You never even tried that with your basic knowledge so what makes you think you'll change now?
Learning theory because you couldn't come up with interesting ideas without it is a sign you're going to make even more formulaic music.
Gabriel Hughes
>when youre queer vegan and trans
Ryder Moore
the sunburst really kills the aesthetic of this guitar.
Joseph Richardson
hmm lemme see your guitars
William Perez
I've been hearing a girl's voice in my head and she's telling me to do weird things like buy dragon fruit at the grocery store and do handstands in my garage. Anybody else ever experience this?
Andrew Williams
>only know basic chords >know zero songs >not sure where to go from here What do?
Asher Gonzalez
Why you getting mad faggot? How many curls do you have in your ginger mustache?

Fender Classic Player Jag. I have one in white. They’re awesome guitars. Very versatile.

Hey anons, just bought an electric guitar the other day and started learning. Following the justin guitar videos, is all the theory the same for an acoustic and electric? I imagine it is, but I don't see it said anywhere and he is using an acoustic. Also I learned the the opening bit to interstellar overdrive, which is cool for me, the song that made me want to play the guitar. Be well, friends..
Are you trying to cope because you couldn't afford a reissue? Are you adjusting your truss rod every time you play it? What's the source of your frustration?
Carter Lewis
I adjust my tross rod once a month and all I have to do is detune the D and G strings.
You have to detune all of them and loosen the fucking neck.
What, couldn't afford a gibson with the truss rod nut in the right spot?
Henry Baker
>adjusting once a month Where do you live where that's necessary? reissues Fenders cost more than basic Gibsons. I get it, you're bating. That's it from me
Christopher Fisher
>I adjust my tross rod once a month Quit buying shit
Jaxson Nguyen
Not him but im 'batin' too
Wyatt Martin
>Where do you live where that's necessary?
Florida.
>only buying a basic gibson Heh
Jace Foster
Hey me three brother
Easton Harris
It was the skinny black girl in the other thread, wasn't it? Are basic Gibsons not good enough?
Isaac Kelly
damn that's a sexy guitar
Caleb Torres
What part of Brazil is Florida in?
Sebastian Foster
No, they aren't even real Gibsons. They're actually rebranded epiphones.
Grayson Ward
imagine thinking a gibson is impressive lmoa
anyone with a full time job can afford one of those, but spending all that money on a mass produced guitar that plays as well as, sometimes worse than, a $1000 clone just makes you look like an idiot
Eww no niggers are disgusting. Whats wrong with you Edsel?
Adam Jenkins
>/gg/: no, gibsons are good, you're poor >published and gigging guitarists: fuck gibson, it's an asshole company that makes overpriced gutiars and has to sue their competition to stay relevant
Jordan Russell
Dont pay it no mind its just a coping tranny
Dylan Martin
Nobody here understands that a $2000 guitar isn't expensive because nobody here has a job that pays better than mcdonalds, except for the people who already own or have owned gibsons.
Nicholas Nguyen
Working is the same as dying.
Gavin Campbell
And the people who own guitars that are better than anything Gibson has ever made, of course, but they don't get triggered because they didn't feel awkward and unworthy when they asked to try out gibsons at a gutiar store.
Levi Martin
despite that sam is dilligently saving his pesos and looking at used les pauls on ebay
Wyatt Cooper
passives help bring out the natural characterists of the woods in your guitar. If you were to put a 81/60 set on a piece of plywood it would most likely sound the same, if not very similar, to a mahagony body. I just think it's stupid to have a guitar made of awesome tone woods and expert craftsmanshit to have it ruined by putting in a set of EMG's in there. it just doesn't make sense to me.
the reason why passives have a meatier tone comes from the characteristics of the wood, which the wood holds the mid tonal characteristics. essentially passives take in both the wood and strings into the overall tone, coloring the strings tone that comes from the wood, where actives only pickup the strings (this is why they have a higher bandwidth) giving that acoustic like tone.
Ryan Morgan
Why would you buy a Gibson when you could buy a Mosrite
Anyone else fucking suck at rhthym but great at lead?
Nolan Ward
Me too. The says so much , I feel as a five year boy, who gets pulled in several boring lawyer-meetings. Wtf? My friends sometimes acts weird, and i have seen unusual sad peoples.
Jose Martinez
>superstrats
was leos design not good enough for you faggots?
Carson Howard
That doesn't exist
Juan Russell
I'm not great at anything
Thomas Clark
How can i improve myself at guitar when i dont have the guitar with me, or headphones?
Camden Reyes
play on forearm
Leo Smith
sire v7 or squier classic vibe?
Jacob Williams
No it actually sucked and should have taken some hints from the les paul, which superstrats do
>two good pickups vs three shit ones >flatter wider neck like a real guitar vs narrow round neck like a recycled baseball bat >flame maple top and transparent finish so you’re not paying for nice wood just so you can pretend you can hear it >bridge does not permanently detune the guitar when touched >guitar is not named after sacfricial car parts
Brayden Kelly
Yeah kid, it wasnt perfect but it was all we had when we couldn’t get gibsons
When ya grow up with those shitty guitars ya gotta learn to play. Guitars thees days are too nice...so instead of playing ya’ll fuck around with stompboxes
Angel Ross
single coils>>>>humbuckers Also, the Stratocaster was designed around a much better genre than the Les Paul was western swing>jazz
90% of humbucker players are just thinking "DOOD, ROCK AND METAL! IMMA ROCK STAR!" 90% of single coil players are just thinking "rock and metal is too mainstream and white-male" (pic related)
How do I get the tone in this song? Particularly the part at about :32 seconds into the song that repeats after each chorus. Is that just a clean tele with the bridge pickup?
Caleb Campbell
Maybe, but if you were skilled enough you could play something the fits both with a decent amp without any pedal
Jacob Diaz
Guys, do you think rock music has any real chance of coming back to the mainstream? I know people say "I SWEAR rock is totally alive, you just have to go to a hipster bar in Brooklyn on a Tuesday night to find so and so band", but at that point it's unlikely to reach an audience. I feel like a lot of current rock has not sonically progressed past 2005, and just sound like boring post White Stripes Jack White tier stuff.
Isaac Brooks
Literal trannies
Carson Hall
Is this looper pkay? I want to loop chord progressions to practice lead playing , this is the cheapest looper i found and i dont have any pedals
Listen to SRV and remember that he was most popular the mid-late 80s. Anything is possible.
Julian Ramirez
I finally found a great solution for GAS. If you're lusting after a guitar or a piece of gear, just wait a month before buying it. Usually the want will dissipate, but if you still want it after a month, you'll appreciate even more and know it's something you genuinely wanted and not just a shiny toy your brain got preocuppied with.
Visualise scale patterns and relationships, intervals in the scale, chord progressions, the notes on the fretboard if you don't know them, etc. I've been 'relearning' the guitar and filling in the gaps from the ground up and every instructor I've come across emphasises how useful this is.
Colton Gomez
>wanted a reissue strat this time last year >still want it Welp.
> 12" radius fretboard > even more comfortable because of extra bodsy contouring and a smaller neck joint > 24 frets for even more noodly solo possibilites and to satisfy those with OCD and/or autism > hardtail option for those who don't use cheesy whammy bar effects > coil split/tapped humbuckers of HSH config for versatility
The Superstrat is the perfect guitar. The only problem is that they usually make them in finishes geared toward the edgemeister crowd.
David Lee
>do you think a predominantly white genre has any chance of coming back to mainstream? "No" Not in the USA
Justin Rodriguez
This is just what everybody does when buying things worth more than $500.
Landon Morris
it wasn't even a white genre when it first started. Also, it's only black people that I would say largely have an aversion to rock, and they're not the demographic that is making the US less white.
Dylan Gonzalez
I'm the same with new purchases but sites like ebay and reverb have clouded my judgement in the past.
Isaiah Rivera
Hopefully I'll get to find out within the next couple of months.
Thanks for letting me know it looks better and is also cheaper, while im at it are there any other pedals you recommend?
Henry Hernandez
Only buy a pedal if you're sure you need it for a specific purpose. Everyone needs a looper so they listen for mistakes in their playing and so they can practice improvising over their own chord progressions, so this was a good choice of first pedal.
Nathan Ramirez
Rock music produces rockstars. Rockstars are worshipped. White people are not allowed to be worshipped. They are dumb, evil nazis that have always been jealous of other races and need to be destroyed because we need to stop climate change. How fucking hard is that to understand?
David Brown
Post Malone and Ariana Grande are massively popular, and they're explicitly copying from black music.
Zachary Scott
exactly, because they go out of their way to look and sound black
Eh I would still say that plenty of pop that isn't particularly black is popular. Dua Lipa, Camila Cabello, Ava Max, Sean Mendes etc. don't sound very black to me
Ryder Jackson
Very nice. Just picked up an Aerodyne Tele 2 weeks ago. Hard as fuck to find anymore for a reasonable price.
bullshit mojo. wood makes not much difference to the sound. this has been proven over and over again, it's mostly the pickups even if they are passive.
Jeremiah Taylor
you're shit at lead as well. sorry.
Austin Thomas
this man, i fuckin can't believe how good my phat cats sound.
Robert Ortiz
you can use termofuzz for almost all of the fuzz sounds
Cooper Barnes
think you might want a shin ei fuzz (jesus and mar y chain) or a maestro (rolling stones satisfaction)
Jason Watson
how do i play solos on neck pickup? even strat sounds bassy and awful
Carson Reyes
Vox Superbeatle Amp for The Prunes. Find something that can replicate it.
Parker Sanders
hitting the mainstream? no way, if it wasn't for image it would be as shirked as jazz is. Rock is still seen as cool but what the fuck do I know? Anything can happen.
Jason Morgan
try compression, or overdrive a tube amp. hit the strings hard, hit the strings soft. good luck.
Evan Gray
twist some knobs fucker
Hudson Wilson
neck pickups are the best faggot. creamy, fat, warm, full bodied, velvetsounding tastiness
William James
still bassy if i make decent sound out of neck pickup then how do i use bridge? bassy and unuseble with overdriven amp
Colton Perez
you are shit or your pickups are shit.
Caleb Lee
don't
Andrew Perez
Those are pretty much the only kinds of chords that sound good with distortion other than doublestop thirds and sixths. What kind of music are you trying to make? If you’re using a clean guitar tone I recommend Don Mock’s Jazz rhythm video and Jimmy Bruno’s old instructional video to get some new chords down. Robbed Ford also has some good shit about creating movement between chords.
Justin Jackson

yea im having to wait for-fucking-ever because the shit i want is always like $2000+ dollars. If I didnt have a gf and didnt care about buying christmas presents and shit maybe I could afford it sooner. I started playing on the street for nickels and dimes nigga.

I start off doing that but then I realise it's on sale or "limited edition only 1 left" and then I either buy it on the spot or pretend it never existed.
Michael Phillips
Sounds like shit pickups.
Luis Adams
And yes I know that it's a trick to get you to do just that
Michael Foster
>even strat sounds bassy and awful This is how I know you're EQing wrong, retard.
Jeremiah Rogers
Sometimes I love this general. ITT retard fucks up EQ so bad he refutes the "different pickups for different genres" argument by complaining that his Stratocaster is too bassy
Ryan Lewis
It's going be dope with the Carcosa fuzz and Julia chorus/vibrato.
The Edge is so based. His playing is where modern guitar playing was born.
Grayson Powell
does solar make the best metal guitars
Alexander Wright
i won one of these in a music store competition. all i did was purchase some strings its fun to muck around on but i still get more use writing to my DAWs using a digidesign 96. If you dont own a studio i guess its OK but for me its gimmicky.
hello newfriend. you are replying to a fro/gg/man post. please refrain from replying to anymore fro/gg/man posts until you know who fro/gg/man is and what he does in this general. on behalf of everyone here we thank you
Oliver Ward
Bass Mid and Treb to 6 6 6, respectively.
David Kelly
lot more bass bit less treble. test after this, adjust middle as necessary
Charles Johnson
3/4 treb 1/4 middle 3/4 bass this is actual basic rock setting for any EQ its a U shape
Thomas Powell
Not him but I've been here a while and no one has explained fro/gg/man to me. Jcum, Sam, Roman, Pink Suhr and the various shitposters have all made themselves known but can someone fill me in on this guy?
Leo Miller
That's the setup of Dave Pearce from Flying Saucer Attack
I am of the opinion that once you have a 24 fret guitar with a floyd and a 22 fret hardtail, you do not need any more guitars period, and if they're both HH or HSH you definitely don't need any more guitars period.
The word "analog" makes boomers and retards think it sounds better because somehow our own creations are magical wonders of nature that are nearly impossible to replicate in software.
He's a cunt who pretends to be other people and genuinely enjoys it.
Joseph Carter
i like it
Jonathan Howard
all "pedalboards" are reddit as fuck desu
>needing more than a wah pedal and your amp's footswitch somewhere along the line you fucked up
Some people just like collecting shit like a musical packrat. Some people are just dumb. There's a difference.
Anyways all the pros are using digital effects and nobody has yet to call them out on sterile digital tone or anything like that so the majority of people who would take pedals over effects processors are just dumb.
Levi Smith
>I don't like glassy, chimey neck single coil pickup tones >I don't like twangy bridge single coil pickup country tones
does you amp has built in delay or chorus? my doesn't
Julian Phillips
all right, I'll give it to you I added chorus there even though it is not essential to my playing. But the rest is "useful". >tubescreamer to add to the amp's saturation (>muh tube saturation lmao) >ds1 works great for a fat lead tone (like a light fuzz) or even just as a boost >wah because it is fun >delay either to use it as slapback to add some ambience or to use it as an actual delay to add some dynamics to the sound come on, allow some fun.
John Cooper
They sound so close that you can't tell in a full mix. You DO play with a band, right?
you don't need to play in a band for close to cut it. you can also record and do post-EQ.
Caleb Cox
What's your action height? I'm riding around 2.5mm / 1.5mm. A string has a tiny bit of buzz, can't get it lower.
Dominic Miller
why?
Blake Kelly
t. doesn't play in a band
Ryder Campbell
where's samuel?
Tyler Phillips
I don't want their bodies to knock together.
Carson Bell
This is beautiful
Brandon Gutierrez
Ok guys this has been bugging me. I own pic related and find it impossible to get a tone that isn't completely ridiculously distorted. I recently wanted a fuzz pedal that I could get a really heavy sound out of, but that I could also turn down so it's almost like an overdrive. I settled on the green russian big muff. I really like it and how it sounds but apparently fuzz pedals are supposed to be more distorted than distortion pedals, so how come I'm finding it so difficult to tone down the HT-Dist?
>I recently wanted a fuzz pedal that I could get a really heavy sound out of, but that I could also turn down so it's almost like an overdrive. Doesn't the proco rat do this? Sounds super fuzzy when cranked and serves as a boost or overdrive before that
Andrew Green
>toning down a distortion pedal the problem is you bought a distortion pedal, it happens to a lot of people. sell that thing and get an overdrive pedal.
I know but i know you have jungle fever too because you always post nig vicious.
Cooper Thompson
even if it's mxt dist+
Leo Young
are you talking about that yellow 80 dollar piece of trash? be serious for once.
Nathaniel Nelson
To be fair to him, you generally want to get the bass out of the signal BEFORE it hits any kind of clipping. This can be tricky if you're running a neck pickup straight into a dirty amp. Personally, I like a bass rolloff knob on my guitars; I find it more useful than a treble rolloff, but the correct answer is of course to have both a la G&L.
Ryder Harris
Just hear it, only the A string.
Jacob Bailey
Someone recommend me some guitar music that will make me dance like this
Why don't metal guitars have active bass/mid/treble EQ on them? Aren't metalfags tired of relying on boutique overdrives that do the same thing? Aren't extra knobs fashionable among shredders?
Instead they just have a volume knob and then a bunch of processing right before the amp.
Luis Rivera
That's fair enough. I actually got the pedal free with my guitar but you're right, an overdrive would probably be better suited to my playstyle. I never know if it's worth getting one because it seems like most of the time when they're demo'd in a youtube video, you can barely hear the difference between that and what the guy considers to be a "clean" tone. Seems pretty cool actually, Would you recommend it just for overdrive or would that be overkill?
Adrian Jenkins
>mid scooping right on the guitar
no one man should have that much power.
Jason Thomas
What was the most challenging song to transcribe/learn by ear for you?
Levi Jenkins
more people should be into playing math rock its so fun >string skipping >arpeggios >tapping >weird grooves
Levi Cruz
Anyone knows this guitar? It's on reverb.com homepage.
You could just 'cheat' and use guitar pro, it's actually a decent tool outside of what the brainless elitist cucks say. I don't know a lot of theory, definitely know the essentials, but not a great amount. Guitar pro has allowed me to learn theory way better than any teacher.
Lincoln Barnes
i just look for the tabs lmao
Charles Jones
Meant to quote not myself, obvs.
Eli Perry
Probably a Mosrite or maybe a copy by some company like Eastwood
Mason Diaz
Because it looks cool, has a kinda raw aesthetic to it.
Andrew Barnes
Really want one of these wrap around meme guitars.
>mommy will you scratch my back before I go to bed?
Joshua Martinez
>the roaches make me itch
David Martinez
What?
You said that lol
Practice more
Listening to car noise. I hope you'll actually learn some of these Jeff Beck tracks on guitar
Brayden Smith
That's weird, how the hell did you come up with that? Very intriguing.
Hunter Lee
Fuck off, Sammy.
Elijah Richardson
Learn a few that are too hard. Play them at half speed and use a metronome.
Matthew Lewis
I literally saw a guy bring his Gibson in for a snapped fucking headstock in the music store yesterday. Meanwhile I was playing a god tier custom shop fender
I saw a guy get hit by a car while crossing the road with his custom shop fender the other day. Meanwhile I was testing out the suspension on my Volkswagen Golf with my Gibson in the back
Try to get the bassline first as a foundation for the rest (from there try to work out the chord progression and the melody, the former is usually harder) Don't be afraid to pause often (even after just one note/strum or so). It helps the sound stay in your ear. It will get easier Knowing music theory helps a ton because you can often narrow down the chord options quickly Start with easy poppy songs with a cleaner tone and work your way up
