Let's discuss this album Yea Forums
Its one of the greatest hip hop albums ever created
Niggers
isn't that just limiting it sonically, though? it might just be one the greatest albums ever created period.
LOL slow down dude
no I will not. as most of Yea Forums is underage you probably are too young to understand the impact of this album alone, forget the other solo projects that followed.
Ok bud, enjoy your one man thread dude, good luck shutting every other opinion down by projection
Bon voyage
I wanted to discuss this album. You probably got lost on the way to a 69 thread
Inspectah Deck > everyone else
ODBfags have to accept this.
INS is in my top 5 I guess. But Dirty is muh heart and soul
Raw I'ma give it to ya
21yo Zoomer here, please explain the impact of this album on hip-hop/the world in detail.
I want to appreciate it more than I do, but I feel I'm lacking so much context as you've indicated.
I heard a quote that is most likely definitely true that says "I have seen more wu tang tattoos than I have seen hip hop tattoos", get it? the symbol alone is as iconic as mcdonalds is. did you know that the symbol wasn't designed by any of the original 10 members but their dj mathematics? wu tang is about brotherhood. anyone can be wu tang because it's for the babies.

4 years ago now damn
Are you OP? I want a more serious/in depth abstract than that. Spill your soul, homie.
I am serious and I am OP. WTC means brotherhood, it also means we united to achieve new goals, you are welcome for that little gem.
Fucking kino as shit, GFK knows how to create an atmosphere
loool
I don't remember making that comment with the intention of evoking laughter from others, but alright.
Is good but Illmatic is better.
So it's not about production or new types of flows, but the branding/familial aspect?
i tried listening to it once and i literally couldn't even sit through the whole thing
it was so fucking mind-numbing and boring
and all the fucking annoying skits
if this is hip-hop's best, hip-hop is a shit genre
In what ways? I think of Illmatic as an amazing album but much more of a group effort with all the other producers behind nas,
what is your idea of a better hip hop album? or are you not fond of the genre anyways?
the production is minimal, simplistic yet gritty raw and hundred things others have also said about it. yes the beats are HARD and I love them, the rhymes are tight and crazy vivid. It is even better when you hear the whole thing live
ODB never made a bad solo album, Deck never made a good one
Not a bait post and i seriously want someone to help me understand but why is this considered so great and one of the bests of all hip hop? I think it's a super great album and i enjoy it a lot, but what makes it so special to everyone as opposed to many other records from the same time?
most if not all of what they are saying is true. more styles than anyone else (sheer number), tight quality control.. all of the sounds came from the RZA
Before 36 Chambers Hip Hop was moving in a poppier more polished direction and west coast G-funk was dominating the charts. The success of 36 Chambers brought the focus back to the east coast and grimey beats, paving the way for Nas, Mobb Deep, etc.
Also the production was revolutionary because it used smaller, unidentifiable snippets of samples in stead of relying on straight loops and interpolations and in doing such created a more sparse sound that left more space for the rappers in the mix. On top of that the songs were constructed nonlinearly, where the RZA would have a bunch of people rap over a beat, and then construct the song out of that by creating a new arrangement out of the best verses. This all created a more rap-centric form of rap, where rapping was the central focus and the songs relied less on traditional pop trappings.
On top of that, the rappers were mostly from Staten Island, which hadn't been the main focus of the NY Hip Hop scene, so they had a different style, and the RZA had access to a large, untapped talent pool. In addition, they took gangster rap from the simplistic NWA type lyrics and made it more real but also more abstract.
Please stop spoonfeeding the retards who can’t Wu.
>Talking about music
>On a Music Discussion Board
My mistake
What's your favorite lyric?
Mine might be
>"so you wanna get up and rap and rap and rap??... man FUCK that!"
>"Who the FUCK wanna be an emcee? If you can't get paidddd, to be a fucking emcee? I came out my mama's pussy... "
There’s more to discussion than explaining to retards why an influential album is influential.
Consider going back to .
like what, gatekeeping precious musical trivia so you can feel good about wasting your life on a forum?
Why so hostile? I realized ITT that I am not very articulate in writing about how music makes me feel, that doesn't discount ones feelings or curiosities on any given topic. Wu is for everyone
Yeah, because 36 Chambers is such an unknown album.
yeah, it's just a super sollid album dripping with raw steet flavour
nice
not fond of the genre, but i haven't listened to that much from it
i don't like the lack of instruments and how it's often silly/cringeworthy lyrically
Well then it seems like the genre doesn't agree with you all that much, critically and commercially wu tang has never been associated with cringey lyrics from what I have seen.
>lack of instruments
That is kind of the point of hip hop... the beats are sampled or looped from other sounds, genres etc.
usually there is a wider variety of instrumentation hip hop album than your typical rock album. 36 Chambers has string sections, piano, synthesizers, guitars, bass, male and female backing singers, the sounds of people doing karate, etc.
I could have read into too much, but I took user's "lack of instruments" as the typical hip hop =/= musicianship argument
yeah, it was mainly just me complaining about sampling
i didn't actually expect anyone to take my wu-tang bait seriously and politely
i'm not a big hip-hop guy but i've been wanting to try public enemy's 'It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back' and mf doom's 'Madvillainy'
i heard one or two songs off the latter album and i actually kinda liked it
a bunch of niggas from different areas of new york got together and made some dusty ass raw music and it was great. that's all i can really say. wu tang forever was pretty good too.
that is MF DOOM's hardest album to get into if you ask me but knock yourself out.
It's one of the greatest albums ever. The constant rotating door of unique personalities and styles always keeps things fresh and they all bounce off each other so well. The beats are perfect and they have subtle shifts and breaks to accommodate each member. ODB's raw energy is amazing. Method Man has such a powerful voice. GZA is the most lyrically talented. Ghostface is probably the best. And it just becomes more fun with repeated listens because you start to memorize all the great quotables
>you will never be dissed by ghost
why even live bros?
Forgot about this classic. Based Ghost, coast to coast.
Nothing WU ever did after this had the same grit.
except OB4CL, RT36C, Liquid Swords and Methodical Man??
return to 36 is the rawest shit ever
Great album that white kids in the suburbs who just got into hip hop love to dickride
I've kinda distanced myself from hip hop lately, but this album is the only thing in that genre that I still listen.
this is my opinion too
this
they were like the nirvana of hip hop
basically in the early 90s you had the east coast and west coast scene.
the west was mainly g funk and party songs with a gangster flavor.
the east was dominated by pop singers (that was the time when (((they))) got into rap) that were supposed to be goofy like vanilla ice or mc hammer
2 members of wu already had a deal, but were pushed back and watered down by labels
so rza (the main one) created the wu tang and they made gritty and raw music on a basically indie label and this album was a hit
after that hip hop became a lot darker and sinister, killing of such acts as de la soul and all of the hip house songs
they basically saved hip hop from (((them))), before (((they))) could make into a joke genre.
for those wanting a more musical explanation (based of of RZAs book Tao of Wu):
their sound was based on the origins of hip hop, using catchy breakbeats, with less of disco, house and funk influences.
rather than the symplistic rhymes of the time, they used complex rhyme schemes and many poetic elements, such as aliteration.
the old soul and jazz samples were also groundbreaking, and even Kanye is quoted to get his original style from RZA.
for entry level hip hop try:
kanye west - college dropout or mbdtf
edan - beauty and the beat
outkast - aquemini/stankonia/ love below
de la soul - 3 feet high
jay z - blueprint/black album
chance the rapper - acid rap
pharcyde - bizzare ride
cunnninglynguist - piece of strange
although it really depends on what genre you like. If jazz try avandale bowling club or tpab, if rock try ratm or by the throat or exmilitary. idk tell me what you like and ill try to get you into hip hop
masta killa was great on his only verse. managed to make him feel like he deserved to be part of the wu even though he's the only one missing on protect ya neck
this
>HOMICIDE'S ILLEGAL AND DEATH IS THE PENALTY
Might be my favorite verse on the whole album 2bh.
I absolutely hate white people of the american variety.
What's wrong with gatekeeping?
MASTA KILLA : No Said Date
Is a good album. Listen to it.
I like hip hop but there's legit only 2 or 3 good tracks in the entire album
Okay but now it is 15 years later since I found it and somehow it still better than any other hip hop I ever hear.
t. Whitey from the burbs
If you’re into jazz, the roots are a great place to start too especially their earlier stuff. Digable planets is another good jazzy act. A lot of rock fans who have grown to like hip hop seem to cross over through public enemy so it takes a nation of millions could be a good place to start. Miseducation of lauryn hill is a good one if you’re into soul and r&b.
hands down the best rap album ever made
this
thoughts on Cappadonna? it's sad that he wasn't on 36 chambers tbqh cus he's one of the Clan's best members.
also U-God is up there with best MC of the group next to GZA
JACQUE COUSTEAU
CHERRY BOMBIN SHITS
B O O M
JUST WARMIN UP A LITTLE BIT
VROOM VROOM
you know shit's about to go down when an ODB verse starts
you know the songs gonna be top tier when U-God opens it
This album is essential white cuck worshipping black cock core.
wtf I love bbc now!
it is highly underrated
but to be fair, the Wu-Tang solo album catalog is full of classics that are hard to live up to, so it gets overshadowed by Cuban Linx and Supreme Clientele
Good post
I love when people are actually knowledgeable and put effort into their posts
test tube babies cannot relate
Wu-Tang is for the children
It blows my mind when people don’t rank ODB as a top 3 Wu member at worst. He may not be the most technically skilled rapper but he’s arguably the most important member outside of RZA
capaccino was fucking sick on winter warz
idk if it is, but I'd like to offer up that link related is the best Wu-Tang track, even though 36 Ch. is their obvious best album.
youtube.com
>idk if it is
meant to say "idk if it's a controversial opinion or not"
Wu tang is the only new york hip hop I think is good
East Coast = 80% of good Hip-Hop and most of it's from NY.
my favorite is triumph
You clearly missed pic related.
Wu tang blows out all other NY rap easily production wise and rapping, but overall southern hip hop is much better
I hate cappadonna's flow and he fucks up more songs than he improves, but The Pillage is a pretty decent album
