MOST IMPORTANT ALBUM ON THERE BY FAR
Chris a cutie!
Ott fans, are we OTTBOTS OR OTTERS?
So it's all Yea Forumscore. Wow I'm so surprised. Who gives a fuck.
we're ottists, bro.
Yea Forumscore was based on him, not the other way around, the list was made in 2003.
Ott was probably one of the posters that helped curate Yea Forumscore
>hurr it's all Yea Forumscore
This is nearly a decade prior to Yea Forums retard.
Ott slots. He can use our holes anyway he wishes.
naughty OTTIES
>no pinkerton
I feel fucking sick.
is that busta rhymes album really that good?
NO.
Thotts
GO LOAF!!!
Get em Ottheads
Ott's the annoying protohipster. Fuck him.
Decent I guess, but far from really good. No Boredoms, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sigur Ros, Elliott Smith, Duster. A lot of albums too high. Endtroducing being the only hip hop record. Pretty flawed.
It is from 2003, maybe he's switched shit around.
>No Boredoms, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sigur Ros, Elliott Smith, Duster.
Sigur ros sucks. Duster never mattered to anyone anywhere, and still don't except to a handful of people here. That's it. Ott has always hated NMH and Elliott Smith, so that should be a pretty obvious exclusion. Boredoms was also a pretty big non-entity that has only gotten big in hindsight. None of this music was particularly resonant with people at those times (save for Smith and NMH which are very clearly Ott's personal biases)
he has said he'd move stuff around within the chart (like ranking battle of los angeles much higher), but not that he'd add anything or take anything off.
Just get off the pot and go with BASED Chris OTT!
not bad, but there's some choices that he made that I dont really get
>Why is it almost all indie/alternative
>Why no whitechocolatespaceegg? Might as well include it if youre puttiing Whip-Smart in there
>Why The Bends
...among others
I think it's fucking boring and he's probably a faggot.
>no Kyuss or Sleep or basically any metal/hard rock
>only Grunge album is Nevermind
>fucking Dave Matthews and Oasis make the cut
>Tigermilk over If You're Feeling Sinister
>no Kyuss or Sleep or basically any metal/hard rock
None of that music has ever mattered to anyone outside of it's devoted fanbase beyond 1990.
>only Grunge album is Nevermind
This is the only good grunge album. Fact.
>fucking Dave Matthews and Oasis make the cut
I don't agree with DMB, but you're an idiot if you don't acknowledge that Oasis were easily one of the biggest and most important groups of the 90s.
>Tigermilk over If You're Feeling Sinister
This isn't even up for discussion. Tigermilk is so much further superior.
Fuck off Chris. No one cares about your soft boy britpop.
>hurr durr Nevermind's the only good grunge album
Go play in traffic.
>no bro, Jack Pepsi is an AMAZING SONG.
Go ice-fishing in September, dipshit.
g2b, Chris
Shit taste
Here come the discord tranny Oasis defense squad. Don't forget to take your titty skittles tonight!
Its missing Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
>unironically including Dave Matthews Band, Strung Out and RATM
>no Failure
>no Hum
>no Faith No More
>no Kyuss
>no 90s metal or metalcore at all
>no Fugazi, Jawbox, Shudder to Think, or Only Living Witness
>the worst classic Helmet album
What is this guy the "god" of? Shitty music taste?
Oh yeah, and
>Unironically including Oasis
Includes SP Siamese Dream but not Mellon Collie, which was the best selling album of 1995, and the best selling double album of the 90s.
Got one thing to say to you fucking losers
ANNNND SSOOOOOOOO SALLLLLYYYY CAN WAITTTTTT SHE KNOWS IT'S TOOOO LATTTEEEEEEEEE AS WE'RE WALLLLKIN ONN BYYYYYYYYY
>Praises Oasis
>Disses Grunge
Why are you even here? Shouldn't you be fingerpainting?
Beg your pardon?
Crazy thought, but a critic's job isn't to reaffirm your taste and the taste of a critic has no bearing on their value. A good critic inspires you to engage with music differently.
>A good critic inspires you to engage with music differently
This is just a list of the most commonly mentioned boring indie/alt rock bands of the 90s with a few exceptions. It's shit and whoever made it has a very narrow view of what good music sounds like.
>It's shit and whoever made it has a very narrow view of what good music sounds like.
What makes you think that a year end list is supposed to be "good music"? That's not what a critic is there for. A critic is there to tell you what mattered and what was important, not what is "good".
Kys hick
>A critic is there to tell you what mattered and what was important
So no hip hop, jazz, metal, folk, drone, ambient, or any other genre of music but alt rock was important in the 90s? Interesting.
I'm from fucking socal. Get bent.
Yeah, obviously you massive fucking dope. Nirvana was an absolutely huge moment of marketing to Gen X and everything was based on that archetype going forward with them. Are you absolutely fucking retarded? How many people do you think listened to new jazz in the 90s? Are you fucking kidding me?
How is listening to 100 popular "alternative" albums from the 90s going to get anyone to "engage with music differently"?
perhaps I am missing something, but I see no Stereolab on here. Instead, I see Liz fucking Phair, the most boring ass "grunge" musician of all time.
So this list is just "stuff most people were listening to in the 90s"? Why do I need a "critic" to tell me that?
you're right, it's not. This is something he had to do for Pitchfork, it's not his main thesis by any means, this is why it's stupid to give a shit about a completely arbitrary ranking. What matters is a critics actual writing/work/angles they take on things. Their subjective little "here's what I think was important" list is easily the least important thing they do next to album reviews, but those push the advertising revenue, so they kind of have to if they write for any real publication.
If you think that 90s hip hop wasn't important then I don't know what to tell you. They didn't even put any Elephant 6 bands on this shitty chart, which spawned an entire new wave of psych/indie pop bands. Pearl Jam's Ten and Alice in Chain's Dirt are every bit as important as Nevermind, and certainly more important than fucking Warlock Pinchers and Sinead O Connor. This is a joke, and your defense of it is an even bigger joke.
Pearl Jizz sucks ass
No one ever said you did, but it also reflects a wager on their end of "this is what's going to be remembered into the future" Sometimes they're massively wrong, but why would it matter to you if you don't need a critic to find different perspectives on something, oh omniscient user?
>If you think that 90s hip hop wasn't important then I don't know what to tell you. Good, now you're actually engaging with it on a real level rather then
> :((((( WHERE'S MY FAVRIT ALBIM!??!?!?!
>First it was BESt
>Now it "Their subjective little "here's what I think was important"
Moving the goalposts.
I just think his list sucks and all of the fanboys come out of the woodwork with their "well actually you just don't understand the nuances and complexities if the list" bullshit. And then when that doesn't work they resort to "well it's dumb to care anyway LOL"
I didn't move goalposts at all. I never asserted that those records were the best in anyway, I disagree with several of them being on there and there are bunch that I think were left off that were a much bigger deal. If you think a critic can be anything but subjective, then you're a massive retard. Objectivity is and always has been a lie.
nah, I just think your issues with it are as bad as your taste. I have issues with the list too, but It doesnt matter me cause I think Ott rules.
>no ween
Trash list
