2019

2018 was fucking abysmal

Easy one. Everything from 1930+ was shit.

This year has been great so far. What are you talking about?

2018 was pure shit, and nobody was coming out with anything new or exciting.

2018 was full of corporate major label fucking trash. This year feels a little more authentic and independent. I think we're seeing an improvement.

1983

2008

2019

2010-Present

Smartphones killed music.

wrong

Attached: thelamb.jpg (220x220, 13K)

came here to post this

It's not that good

Hard to argue with 1974. Times like that do spur out some amazingly unique things like Here Come The Warm Jets but 1974 in general seems to be a transitional period for many artistists

2017-2019 have been nothing but garbage

It might have been a terrible year for mainstream rock but there was a lot of great stuff coming out on the fringes.

>1974 being bad when Good Old Boys, Red, On The Beach, and Eno records that kicked ass all came out

OK clown

Also the correct answer is 2009

>Microcastle
>Third
>Viva La Vida
>Med whatever Sigur Ros
>The Bedlam in Goliath
>Ghosts and The Slip
>Fleet Foxes
>The Hawk is Howling
>808s

the best I could find, not great but not awful. There must be worse years from this soon to conclude decade.

the whole 80s

kys

Literally every album you mentioned is dogshit awful

Post good songs then.
ULTRA SUPER MEGA HYPER Hard mode; no Japanese songs.

I've really fucking hated the 2010s outside of Brian Jonestown Massacre, QotSA and King Gizz releases. Of course that's not the only good shit but you know what I mean.
Almost everything else wasn't too hot for me

Attached: Chao.jpg (700x700, 39K)

1990

it's 1919 or something because most styles we love today weren't invented.

If you think the 2019 output is shit, just listen to the 2018 output, if you think the 2018 output is shit.... just listen to the 1974 output, and so on.

Like who cares what comes out in the current year, there's an endless supply of old shit anywya.

1909....because there was no music

Something in the early 2000s, probably 2003

Name one good album from 2013

not based

2013 was literally one of the best years for music

Attached: 61Uxg-SWExL._SL1500_.jpg (1500x1491, 115K)

Sunbather
Kveikur
Ceres & Calypso
Fetch
Random Access Memories

Cringe

cracker

2013 was based

Attached: a1752648874_10 (1).jpg (1200x1200, 79K)

Fleet Foxes and 808's saved the year truthfully

So you can't state any good songs

it fucking is dude

Don't be a retard. This year has been great.

Attached: 2019.jpg (5000x2000, 3.83M)

trash star

new gizz is tasteless trash

Attached: bd.jpg (1200x1200, 388K)

You're just going to ignore the other nine albums?

>V:D:C
>Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana
>Quebec
>The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place
>A Promise
>Metaphorical Music
Hmmm... nah

>YWNKW
>Fever Ray S/T
>Tarot Sport
>For Long Tomorrow
Could be better, but not awful

Now, 1976 is the worst IMO. Everything is either butt-rock, whiny soul music, shit punk rock, or wanky-ass prog rock.
>inb4 Bowie
No fuck Bowie he's shit butt-rock too. Literally the Radiohead of the 70s, puts just enough "experimental" influence in his music to made himself appealing to pseuds

who the fuck is we, shut up tranny

Not at all, Gizz is a very talented band.

2010

have one on me

These are all not good.
Some of them have 1-2 good songs, but zero are good albums.

Cosmogramma
HOoM
The Suburbs
Daughters S/T
Écailles de luna
Liumin
Crystal Castles II
Hiram Clark Hustler
Heavy Sky

one of the lowest IQ comments i've seen

1941, Pearl Harbor

>Year that Red was released
>Year that Relayer was released
>worst

"Late for the Sky" by Jackson Browne, featured in Taxi Driver, was released in 1974.

74 was a good year
76, 84, 89, 90 were all pretty weak

we as in almost everyone.

Unless you exclusively listen to old classical music then there's been a lot of progress since 1919.

*blocks you're path*

Attached: king-crimson-red-20130623182819.jpg (600x600, 136K)

2017 was good though.

one of his best tbqh

Attached: interstellar space2.jpg (1200x1200, 186K)

>Queen II

i cant beleive you all forgot about the best album of the decade

Attached: AOTD.jpg (700x700, 50K)

t. opens up and let's Atlantic, Interscope, and Sony take a long shit down his throat

The protest era had wound down and punk hadn't started yet, so there wasn't a lot to sing about.

76 was definitely stronger than 74 although anything I cite that was any good from that year has already been written off by you, so..

74 was great what the fuck are you talking about, you had Apostrophe, Red, Starless and Bible Black, Queen 2, Sheer Heart Attack, etc.

Awful years include:
84
86
88
90
05
10
13

caligula is decent
yeah they can play their instruments and they have a good ethic, but it's just a soulless pastiche at the end of the day.

Yeezus

>it's just soulless pastiche
I gotta disagree, they've made several great albums completely earnestly. I'd even argue FMB is a masterpiece but that's just how I feel.

Attached: cat.png (264x150, 44K)

Kanye is generic shit who doesn't even make his own music, go fuck yourself.

the entire 70s are great for music, kys homo

ok that's valid homie

Still a great album, cope

Attached: 1518636857023.jpg (285x327, 20K)

Have a good one bud.

Attached: 1565887766985.jpg (770x714, 69K)

Not at all, memebrain

>84
>86
>88
Great years for metal, but not much else.

1984 was heaven for alternative rock, holy shit I love that year so much

Sunbather is shit. Calypso and Ceres was really good though.

though massively overshowed by 1991, 90 still had
>Bossanova
>Fear of a Black Planet
>Violator
>Rust In Peace
>Goo
>Heaven or Las Vegas
>Ritual de lo Habitual
>Rythm of the Saints
>Godweensatan
>Repeater
>In a Priest Driven Ambulance
>The La's

xD

Nah man, '74 had Wyatt, Eno, Kraftwerk, quite a bit of jazz fusion, and hell even the prog then was better than in '76. KC and Renaissance were legitimately putting a novel spin on rock music, while basically everything after WYWH reverted the scene into unbearably long guitar solos and overproduced garb

thank god we have people responding with lists of albums otherwise i would've walked away from this thread thinking "wow this year of music literally had no good releases in it" but now i know there were in fact 10 or so good ones in a 365 day time period

1977
pic related

Attached: 71d2EbY4a8L._SL1431_.jpg (1417x1431, 186K)

Fuck off buttrocker.

74 had...uh...KISS, Aerosmith, and Don't Fear the Reaper? Not a lot there.

2014

Autobahn
Rock Bottom
Here Come the Warm Jets
Phaedra
Interstellar Space
Meet the Residents
Fela Kuti - Confusion

1974 was actually great if you look just a little outside the mainstream

Not to mention
Red
Starless & Bible Black
Apostrophe
Queen 2
Sheer Heart Attack
Mirage
Crime Of The Century
The Power and the glory

Have to be 1995-2005 sometime

Also:
>Unrest
>Taking Tiger Mountain
>Get Up with It

>Return To Forever - Where Have I Known You Before
>Cos - Postaeolian Train Robbery
>Herbie Hancock - Thrust
>Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping
>Larry Coryell - Introducing Eleventh House with Larry Coryell

1976 was pretty good I think
>Genesis - A Trick of the Tail
>Genesis - Wind and Wuthering
>Journey - Look Into The Future
>Brand X - Unorthodox Behavior
>Al Stewart - Year of the Cat
>Cos - Vivra Boma
>Alessi Brothers - Alessi
>Cerrone - Love in C Minor
>Mort Garson - Plantasia
>Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny
>Rush - 2112
>Van der Graaf Generator - Still Life
>Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear
>Ryo Fukui - Scenery (the meme album)

2020

Enrico Caruso would like a word with you but he died in 1921.

most of those are garbage

2003 was the peak of butt rock music like Nickelback

Gen Xers used to consider 1998-2004 the downfall of pop culture and the cancerous teen pop / nu metal / trl / mike scully simpsons era. People kept saying "1993-1997 was the true 90s" or "That 98-99 pokemon britney nsync crap wasn't true 90s, felt more like proto-2000s".

But nowadays, you have people in their late 20s on Buzzfeed/Twitter saying 1998-2004 was the golden age of pop culture or "the 90sest era ever", and consider anything before 1998 to be outdated/overrated/not interesting for them. A complete reversal in opinions.

I agree but pic not related right?

This.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAfaggotHAHAHAHAHAHA

>1997 has to be up there

Attached: 1557771641760.gif (330x271, 1.44M)

>Viva La Vida
Holy shit dude, find another board

how the FUCK can you tell? how the FUCK can any of you tell? do you know ALL music?!
well I DO and the WORST year for music was THE YEAR YOU WERE FUCKING BORN cause thats when your SKANK of a mother released "I WISH I ABORTED MY STUPID SON"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Attached: 54246754476.png (831x616, 43K)

I've noticed on several best albums of the 70s lists, there is always a dearth in 74/75. It's the weird period between glam/art rock of the early 70s and the post-punk/new wave of the late 70s

Red is a fucking amazing album though and the clear highlight

this 100%.

Weird when you consider 1975 was so good.

Anyone saying "2019" is also a complete retard because the year is not over yet
none of them

In 1974's defense...
Caribou - Elton John
Band on The Run - Wings
Not Fragile - BTO

Some great singles:
Junior's Farm - Wings
Oh Very Young - Cat Stevens
You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet - BTO
It's Only Rock and Roll - Rolling Stones
Don't Let His Son Go Down on Me - Elton John

Attached: 1529196104481.png (349x335, 77K)

1997 is literally the best year besides maybe 1969 , 1975, and 2000

I think the best years imo were 1967 and 1970. In '67 there was:

Monterey Pop Festival (legendary performances by Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix)
2 Jefferson Airplane albums (Surrealistic Pillow is my favorite album)
2 albums from The Doors
2 albums from Jimi Hendrix
Disraeli Gears
Cheap Thrills
Velvet Underground's debut
Electric Music for the Mind and Body

'70 had
Band of Gypsies
2 of the best Grateful Dead albums
Idlewild South
Morrison Hotel
Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs
Dejá Vù
Bitches Brew
Loaded
Bridge Over Troubled Water
After the Gold Rush
Cosmo's Factory
Abraxas
Atom Heart Mother

Just an absolutely packed year for those two.

Well 1975 had Wish You Were Here and Eric Clapton's live album where he went back towards his blues roots so it wasn't that bad, and Fleetwood Mac's self-titled album had some good singles on it so I wouldn't say it was that bad. '74 at least had Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs (some might call it butt rock, I think Trower's guitar style is great) and Gram Parson's Grievous Angel, as well as the Grateful Dead's hiatus from live shows. Definitely not as good as a couple years before and after it.

>1967
>Doesn't mention Sgt. Peppers

Yes everyone can agree 67-68 was an amazing time for pop music
but to OPs point, im looking at my collection, all i have for 1974 is
>Queen II
>Crime of the Century
>Heroes are Hard to Find

meh is right

Lol, Sunbather fans are the worst.

I suppose anyone can come up with specific counterexamples to certain years, but 1998 comes to mind as being awful as a trend for signifying the decline from mid 90s pop-rock.

the best pop was early 90s. when hip hop was still innovative and influential as fuck, but before jews ruined it

/thread

Based fellow early-mid 90s boomer poster.

I was gonna put that but I wasn't sure whether or not liking The Beatles is punishable by death in Yea Forums.

Just the mindless Scaruffi worshipers (note not attacking Scaruffi, just has drones) hate them really, but then they also have to like nu-metal, so we can all just laugh at them.

TRL, Britney and Kid Rock all debuted around late 1998. That was the end

Yes, exactly. Plus nu-metal exploded late that year into the mainstream, with Korn's biggest record (and one of their worst) plus Limp Bizkit's first radio hit for the George Michael cover.

best post

Every year from 2010 to the present has been the worst

Every year has been the worst

I Trawl the Megaheartz
Mount Eerie
Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?
Hail to the Thief

1976 is a legit contender. 1989 isn't great either but there is some good stuff.
still not all that strong
yeah it's been a shit hole honestly

I'm going with either 1976 or 2019. Prove me wrong

1983 was a great year. What are you smoking?

you would be sure if you lurked more
