This album is a decade defining classic...

This album is a decade defining classic. I think it has cemented its place in history as one of the greatest pop albums of all time.

Agreed. Kids in in my top 10 songs of the new millennium

too bad the rest of their discography is fucking SHIT

It definitely has some songs that will live forever. I don't know if it was a decade album, but that sound really did carry a lot of weight from 08-11ish give or take.

It's a shame the music they really wanted to make was so badly received. Everyone thought they were fucking around on Congratulations but that album really is great stuff too, it's just not good pop and it's too weird for the radio, you know?

Wow, replies here are FUCKING TERRIBLE. First, OS has three good songs. Second, all of their albums after this are better. Fucking philistines.

ok i really liked their self-titled album though when it came out

>three good songs
You mean three massively successful singles? That's about as many as Thriller had, between Billie Jean, Beat It, and the title track. The rest of that album is pure filler, and it's a classic. Same with Number Of The Beast. It has two massive singles that carry the entire album, Run To The Hills and the title track. I think that any album with three singles as big as Electric Feel, Kids, and Time To Pretend deserves its place among the greats.

You are correct. Even if no one remembers Pieces of What, they weren't nothing. And those singles! When was the last time an album HAD that many tracks that ALL landed so hard.

What the fuck is this thread??? OS was passable, Congratulations was almost perfect, Self titled was good, and LDA was great. Kids, Time To Pretend, and Electric feel were and still are overplayed trash.

Congratulations is perfect.
Little Dark Age is alright couple bangerz

Literally never. Michael Jackson's Bad and Metallica's black album are two of the most single-heavy albums of all time, and not even all of those singles landed. Most of them did, but not all of them.

>it had 3 popular songs on it, which makes it a certified classic

Can you imagine if the rubric for album ratings was based on how many popular singles came out of it?

MGMT has a perfect discography and still have a have a great career ahead of them, change my mind.

They're has-beens. Nobody on the planet cares about their self-titled album, and LDA was seen mostly as a comeback album by "those dudes who wrote that song I heard in Urban Outfitters over ten years ago."

OP is wrong. But you’re more wrong. I pitty the fools who don’t see how great Congratulations, S/T and LDA are.

It was the Merriweather Post Pavilion of it's time.

So popularity is more important than writing good music to you?

that's literally what this thread is about dipshit

how the fuck can you be this retarded

OP here. That's exactly what this thread is about. I think it's a great POP album.

So it has to be popular to be considered pop music?

All of their albums are pop.

Haha. Nope. Not in the least.

Actually, I think he's right.

Electric feel is good.

The best of the three? Yes.
Good? No.

Time to pretend is the best pop song of the decade

ngl I'd listen to Billie Eillish over any of MGMT's big 3 singles.

Of course you will little zoomer, of course you will.

Fuck so many art hoes to this album before art hoes was a thing.

>It has two massive singles that carry the entire album, Run To The Hills and the title track.
Confirmed to have never listened to the album in full. Hallowed Be thy Name is the best song by far

Related: I finally listened to Little Dark Age tonight in full. Honestly it was ok, I passively enjoyed it but would rather listen to anything by Ariel Pink.

One of my personal favs in spite of Kids and Pieces of What.

The second half of Oracular Spectacular is super underrated.

I don't mind the path they are on. I am just happy that they got a couple mega hits out of OS that they were able to go and make music that they enjoyed. I have enjoyed all their albums so far.

thats just how redditfags view queen

This and Weekend Wars are super underrated.

They literally killed indie music, nothing that came after it never had the huge commercial/critical acclaim that this had, the last flame thank god

With that said it’s incredible

Congratulations is the epitaph of rock and roll. Think about it.

They are now Pitchfork poptimist editors. Thanks for fucking them retarded.

This is the peak Summer album for me.

You're welcome, and i'm not surprised at all, I was doing a law degree at the time.

agreed

Yup

Best MGMT album for singles, however, Congratulations is the better album overall.

Has any artist in recent years managed to bounce back as strong as MGMT with Little Dark Age?
It seemed they would fade to irrelevance after s/t

Tame Impala > MGMT
