Fuck Yea Forums I haven’t listened to this in a while. God damn, it’s excellent.
Joy Division
Yep it’s one of those albums that wind up on t-shirts that are worth listening to.
agreed its a good album
No it’s not just a good album. It’s more than that.
Oh lord I have been browsing Yea Forums too much again.
their best songs never made it into their studio albums. which is why their compilations standout more than anything they released when Ian (pbuh) was alive. this is their best release
I honestly cannot think of any other album that has as much universal praise amongst everyone as this one
I was talking to my dad over the weekend about Joy Division as we listened to this album because he heard me playing it and was wondering what it was. He was blown away at how good it is. He worked at a record store in the early 80’s and his favorite band is Roxy Music (in fact he just got back from a trip where he traveled to go see Bryan Ferry). I expected him to be really into Joy Division, and he was telling me he just didn’t appreciate them at the time like he should’ve for some reason even though he decided to go out and buy one of their double albums on vinyl in like 1981 or so, which I’m guessing wasn’t cheap. So he gave me this. I’m not finding a lot of places that sell this. It has a recording of their final concert.
have an upvote
Oh and yeah to respond to you like I meant in the first place.. my bad.. I know that it’s widely regarded but I still have trouble deciding if enough people have listened to it and respect it as much as it deserves. I lean towards no. Talk about an album that sets a vibe without trying too hard.. I’m looking at you, Cure
The band obviously deserve credit for writing great songs, but goddamn, Martin Hannett was an utter genius. When you hear live JD, they were such an aggressive and powerful band, but Martin heard an entire other dimension to their sound that the band didn’t and created the entire atmospheric feel of the album against their initial wishes. Legend. Even Peter Hook said they would’ve ruined it if they’d done it like they’d originally wanted.
Still ahead of its time.
Was just listening to Wilderness earlier today.
Nah. Shadowplay, Disorder, New Dawn Fades, Colony, The Eternal, etc are all as good as anything off Substance.
I prefer Closer personally but I can't shit on any of their output. It's unbelievable that their music still manages to live up to the hype
Died at 42.
Damn, I wasn’t familiar with him but he sounds extremely talented. It’s always a shame when you discover someone like that who’s just from generations previous who’s just a savant.. and they’ve died young.
all of those songs combined don’t hold a candle to love will tear us apart or transmission.
fucking this
also closer is better
thinking about it, any of their releases is better than UP
lol I love it when this board will be discussing a legit 10/10 classic then someone will burst in saying “ackshully what you’re listening to is their worst album”
never fails
Hes right though
Regardless of whether he is or isn’t, taking a band’s literal 10/10 masterpiece and saying other parts of their catalog blow it out of the water is a very Yea Forums thing to do.
Dead Souls blows both of those songs out of the water.
For you
Wasn't the band itself unhappy with the final product? Didn't they think it sounded too much like a Pink Floyd album?
Has Yea Forums gotten any better? I haven't actively browsed it since like 2011 and I miss those days dearly.
I think among most ordinary people, you would be right. But when you are talking about people on music forums and reviewers, it's one of those albums you are just expected to have listened to.
Jeez if it makes them feel any better I can confirm that it doesn’t..
whats so great about this meme album
i see people wearing shirts all the time with it, even nick diaz. probably just some lame hipster poop
