I have a lot of thoughts on Fantano’s influence in my life. Fantano definitely shapes what I listen to, but if not him it’d be some other avenue. I know that's a bad mindset, but there's only so much time in a day and I'd rather listen to music Fantano has recommended because I've found a lot of cool and new music through him. Isn't that the job of a reviewer anyways?

Although I do wish he wasn’t concerned with being a taste maker, I feel as though he often inflates his own opinions/scores in order to turn people on to an artist.

The biggest problem I have with having Fantano in my life is allowing a stranger to determine an artists/ albums worth. Although I would never want to admit to Fantano's influence on my opinions, that’s sadly not always the case.

When I first heard Kids See Ghosts I thought it was pretty good, I probably wouldn’t have listened to it too much after it's initial release. After Fantano gave it a 10, I definitely gave the album a lot of special attention trying to see it for the “masterpiece” Fantano claimed it to be.

It’s not depressing to me that Fantano helped me enjoy an album more, but it depresses me to think that if that’s true Fantano’s opinions have probably made me enjoy an album less, or not check something out that I really could’ve loved. Either way that’s not a problem with Fantano but rather a problem with me.

It’s always good to have a few points of reference and I’m glad I also browse mu and RYM, even if these places come with their own problems. I think Fantano is doing a good thing and the problem comes when people regard his opinion higher than their own.
