Nah I like both too. I think metal is more show-offey with scales and chords and such while punk is more about how honest and emotional it feels. Both are great imo. Discharge, hellhammer, siege, and most screamo is what I listen to when I'm feeling a crossover episode

I used to always see hardcore punk and thrash metalheads at the same shows in my city. I've seen Circle Jerks, Fear, Agnostic Front, etc... but I've also seen Vektor, Onslaught, Destruction, etc. Maybe it's a different story for black metal shows or something tho, idk.

I love Fugazi and Dag Nasty. Minor Threat influenced a ton of my favorite bands, like Have Heart, Judge, Gorilla Biscuits, and many others. However, while I think they're a great distillation of what hardcore is, I honestly don't really enjoy listening to them that much... though I certainly listened to them a lot when I was 18.

Amazing early post-hardcore band, they should really be considered one of the greatest.

I could never get into this tbqh, I could only really deal with this style when it got a little more metallic, like with Despise You and Spazz

Another unbelievably underrated band, people should probably hold them in the same esteem as bands like Hüsker Dü and the Minutemen, in bands that helped transition from hardcore to alternative. That said, they're also heavy enough to play alongside Discharge.

Ooh, I've long meant to check out The Hated, aren't they one of the founders of emocore?

Punk's always been a niche thing, and now punk genres like crust, metalcore, and folk punk are getting a lot of attention. I think they're decent.

One thing I think is worth mentioning, though, is that being "a punk" and playing punk has been sort of decoupled. There are lots of punks in punk bands, but now it seems like there are lots of totally legit punk bands made up of people who probably wouldn't call themselves punk. One major exception is how "oogles," or crusty folk punks, who are having their hayday.

Nowadays it seems like the kids with the neon hair and expensive jackets are kind of dismissed as posers, or almost passé.

Subhumans are fantastic, I love the whole anarcho scene with Flux of Pink Indians, The Ex, Rudimentary Peni, Conflict, etc.

I actually just started getting into The Hated. Really interesting Annapolis group; while they get called one of the godfathers of emocore it seems mostly attributed to their label vermin scum putting out Moss Icon and being a part of that first wave. That being said, they have an incredible sense of harmony and heartfelt spontaneous lyrics, which I guess were signifiers of emocore at that time, im not sure, emo is a word dragged in the dirt time and time again. Literally everything they put is solid gold tho. Their full length lp is probably my favorite, but it's all good. I read somewhere they made like 800 - 1000 or something copies of it and half of em got warped and ruined while on tour in Arizona. They were supposed to appear on the Dischord State of the Union comp too but didnt for some reason. Something tells me they never got the respect they deserved but im sure they were just having fun with being in a band
