I'd say that's a pretty dark and fucked up life. Even if you overcome fucked up shit in your life and live to be a healthy person, it still counts. You have some life experience and pain and an outlook different than someone who's never had to think hard about anything other than what clothes they're gonna wear for the day.

Music also does not have to be dark or edgy on a surface level to be good, someone who's been through shit can make great music that's happy too, maybe the shit they went through in life made them appreciate life and celebration more than the average person and thus they make really good uplifting music as a direct contrast to their past. All I'm saying at is that comfortable people don't have the same drive as people who either come from nothing or come from a really fucked up position in life to create art.

There are also exceptions to the rule....you're talking about classical music, you kind of have to be a genius to make that kind of music anyway so it's a different level....we're talking pop music here, something anyone with a laptop can do. I don't think Clairo is an exception to the rule in this regard lol, her music to me just seems like something any average rich girl would make, there's nothing really special about it to me and it doesn't seem to make any significant statement or paint any interesting picture.

Maybe Haydn is a better example anyways, his life was really consistent and nothing interesting happened even up until his death, but I see your point. I have no stance on your point about pop being easy to write, though of course classical music is way more elaborate in general, I wouldn't wanna get involved in a bin fire.

Yeah exceptions to the rule exist, some people are just autists when it comes to music and have an insane gift....but even then, that separates them from everyone else, making them more than a "normal" or "average" person

As far as I know Clairo doesn't even present herself as anything special or tries to appear high end with expensive music videos, like Eilish as you mention. As kind of an outsider I find it completely funny how people seem triggered by Clairo. Like is she even popular enough to warrant the amount of threads she's getting calling her a "plant"?
