I'll be spinning jazz for sure, just not this jazz-record.
It's a great record but I've already heard it a million times.

Reminder not to play the butter notes
so you go back to your metal thread with your 2 pairs of neurons
More like
Kind of shit
I'm listening to jazz today so i'll probably play it at some point.
daily reminder miles dives died
Kind of Bait.
and I don't care, because In A Silent Way, Filles de Kilimanjaro, Sketches of Spain, Live/Evil, and especially On The Corner are all far better.
when i lsten to jazz i listen to the stylings of Ahmad Jamal
>not kind of poo
Overrated shit, miles davis drinks pee

>On The Corner

In a Silent Way is his best nigga
Okay somebody explain to me the amount of wanking over this album? It sounds like literally the most generic example of jazz you could ever pick out.
There's nothing interesting about it and Davis and his contemporaries all did far better and far more interesting work later.
>On The Corner
His only good album
very influencial, that's why it sounds so generic today
also the playing is very nice ofc, it's just very safe and subdued - it's like "generic jazz" but actually good, something you can just kick back and relax to when you're really tired
but yeah I don't get reccomending it to newbies, maybe people do it because it's impossible to actively hate the album
I think you need something more energetic and passionate to get someone into jazz, to show them it's not just chill background music
Clifford Brown or The Birth of Cool compilation are all good recommendations for newbies
doo-do
Didn't realise I had clicked on /pg/ - patrician general
badoom da di di dada
doo-do
badoom da didi daa
i dont get why people praise this album so much, whats so good about it in comparison with get up with it, bitches brew and on the corner
so shit. just playing over some moldy jazzy blues chord progression. white people have no tatse
It's a cohesive record with solid performances by Miles and his band but I wish the bass was mixed a little louder and the sax wasn't so loud on it, whenever I listen to this record I feel like I'm either getting sax thats way too shrill and loud or bass that isn't coming through at all. Great record though, just shitty mixing.
You are comparing it to albums in a completely different style, I'm guessing that style suits your taste better.
Try to find a similar, but better album, it's not easy.
That's exactly it bro. Charles Mingus is what got me into jazz, and it will always be the first thing I recommend to people.
t. scaruffidrone
nope I have never listened to something because solely because of scaruffi.
What
I listened to slipknot because of scaruffi, but otherwise Mingus is far and away the peak of jazz music.
well yeah that's why i said he's the best to start with. It's energetic, melodic, and easy to follow, while still being decent from a compositional perspective.
if you got it form this board you got it from Scaruffi.
This board is Scaruffi.
im somewhat of a jazz fan myself. miles davis, john coltrane, the list goes on...
Imo being a tourist in jazz is better than saying kind of blue is shit for the sake of being contrarian
Faggot
Thats actually a very reasonable thing to say considering both of those artists are the most popular of all jazz musicians. So people are most likely to recognize them. So the flow of the conversation doesnt hiccup at you having to explain some not so popular and what theyve done.
I don't have a problem with Miles and Coltrane.
Like you start out with Miles cool stuff, and later discover his fusion, avant-garde stuff, even later your return to the cool stuff to hear some early Coltrane or whatever.
Same with Coltrane, you start out with Blue Train and the Ballads, come back for free-jazz and stuff with Dolphy etc.
Like these artists are so versatile, they stick with you as you explore the genre.
Liking Miles & Coltrane is not a sign of being tourist at all.
Hating on them, and name-dropping Ornette Coleman or Mingus is a sign of being a tourist.
all blues is one of the best songs of the century
Oh shit thanks for letting me know user
based and milespilled
why are you guys comparing records like on the corner to kind of blue, they sound almost nothing alike. you can enjoy both for the (very different) things both offer. fuck. also happy anniversary to a classic
lol
