Because, like fast food, grape fanta soda, KFC, skittles, kool aid and lean, rap music is designed to be addictive (it simply repeats disco/fusion 2-3 second hooks for the beat with auto-generated/sampled melodies) and offer very little to zero substance. Given the limitations of the genre, just about all that could be done has already been done.

I used to like rap a lot, but during my MF DOOM phase I realized that no other rap music compares to his. So I explored other genres and now I barely listen to rap anymore. There's just so much better music to listen to.
