Then get in to albums. I would start with Nonagon then to FMB then to Quarters. It'll give the overall impression of the range they cover.

But you're absolutely right about Poly/Gumboot Soup stuff - The Fourth Colour and The Wheel hit precisely in the moments when they're meant to. I know Poly is favourite for a lot of fans and I like it a lot of it's song-writing which is superb, they really touched something magical with it, but the production and mixing sinks a lot of tracks.
Nonagon is so good because Stu didn't go for a restrained, methodical production.

Poly (both Fourth Color and Crumbling Castle) are mixed as psych on the KEXP tracks and mixed as prog tracks on the album. IMHO, the KEXP mix of Crumbling Castle leaves a lot to be desired, but the album mix of Fourth Color isn't great.
