Can you separate the art from the artist?
Can you separate the art from the artist?
Was he a nazi?
Yeah, I mean Skrewdriver suck but I still respect them because they're Nazis.
literally whoms't
Also yes but in this case I feel no need to
no how would you come to that conclusion
Judge artists by their works not their personal life ??? == Profit.
Yes, anybody who isn’t a retard can separate art and artist
Based and redpilled
Satanists make mood gusic
sure, I mean who doesnt like nazi memorabilia?
hah, das a funny
Death of the Author is a fucking joke that is pretty much the laughing stock of all academics.
Duh.
>Skrewdriver suck
I know you're baiting, but the subcultural importance of Skrewdriver can't be overstated because those guys singlehandedly electrified an entire movement. Punk Press has always been nothing more than self-appointed gatekeepers and glorified tastemakers who astroturf whatever horseshit caters to their political sensibilities. When it comes right down to it, Garry Bushell is no different Malcolm McLaren, and shit like Angelic Upstarts were his Sex Pistols. In fact, McLaren gets too much shit an Bushell has gotten away with murder.
Here's what some Oi! bands who weren't Skrewdriver sounded like in the early 80s:
youtu.be
youtu.be
Absolute plodding dirge, weedy riffs bereft of any confidence yet tons of production values.
Here's what Skrewdriver sounded like in the early 80s with half of those production values:
dailymotion.com
Jangly, sloppy, soulful, sentimental (but not cloying) Rock'n'Roll full of goosestepping drums, hard truths, rusty stabbed-in-an-alleyway production and basslines that’ll make you wonder what's the big deal about every other plunky bassist everyone talks up from all the post-punk bands at the time. And of course Ian’s voice was stupidly larger-than-life, one part Louis Armstrong, one part crusty British gentleman.
Skrewdriver is what Oi! should sound like.
I'm not gonna read all that, but I'm not baiting, I genuinely don't like their music. I just don't like Punk, sorry mate.
>I just don't like Punk
Your loss, m8
>academics dislike a text criticizing their methods
oh wow
yes, i will still love based Sid despite his nazism
>educated people reject philistinic coping mechanisms of uneducated people
who woulda thunk, amirite?
itt:people who complain about bands being too liberal
>don’t like punk
Based, punk is cringe
>like punk
Cringe, see above
>uneducated people
literally a coping mechanism against criticism of ones self. and not even applicable

Why wouldn't we make fun of them? That's shit you only do when you got so much money and time to waste and you don't know what to do
sid wasnt a fucking nazi but still based
Yes. Being a creative person and an artist make it easier to be someway detached from reality.
Thats why most musicians have retarded views on politics and other stuff.
I really dont mind, I listen to liberal artists with liberal lyrics like ajj, music from fascist italy praising mussolini and far left punk like leftover crack without problems.
I dont see why people always have to feel represented by the media they consume, its just retarded.
Barthes is a fucking idiot. Case in point, he wrote Death of the Author. Nobody with an IQ higher than their shoe size would write something as retarded as death of the author. Ergo, Barthes is a retard. Clearly he must have found his credentials inside a crisp packet.
because you should be able to separate the art from the artist. read thread
>because you should be able to separate the art from the artist
Why?
Sid wasn't a nazi, he was just edgy
>implying One In A Million isn't the most correct political song of all time
kek
but your pic contains a christian
>Barthes is a fucking idiot. Case in point, he wrote Death of the Author.
Are you too smart to be self aware of your circular reasoning and self-referential non-argument?
Are you so smart that you're going to ignore that you called the man who was once chair of literary semiotics at a university "uneducated" and a philistine? That was your entire argument, kid.
Reminder that Ian STUART DONALDSON whose father owned a factory larping as a true blue English workingman is so many levels of ironic you have to wonder if he was just taking the piss the whole time.
Apparently Chris Henderson of Combat 84 went to Charterhouse
For me, I will listen to any music made by anybody, out of curiosity. Enjoyment is a different story. It's really about how good the payoff is.
My dad's Jewish. Judaism doesn't mean anything to me, but increasingly I find it means something to the people who judge me for having any biological association with it. I'm very anti-racism. Right off the bat, I'm disgusted by the people who make racist or misogynistic music. However, I also recognize that we're all human, and we all have prejudices. I try to fight my prejudices, but as a person I'm no better than some racist asshole, and neither is anyone else. If a racist asshole makes good music, it's because they're human, and it's a testament to human creativity. The fact they're racist has nothing to do with it.
Varg Vikernes and Mikko Aspa are pretty shitty people, but Varg is a visionary musician, and Aspa has a good band. Because of that, I'm not going to hesitate to enjoy Burzum or Deathspell Omega. In the case of Burzum, some of Varg's worldview - his focus on nature and rejection of consumerism - actually resonates with me.
Skrewdriver is a band I will listen to and appreciate, but I don't listen to it for enjoyment. It doesn't even really sound like oi! to me, but more like really catchy hard rock. It's well written. But hard rock music isn't interesting enough for me to bother listening to it despite its racist message. But I can recognize they're a good band.
There is some music made by bad people that's worth listening to in a freak show way - No Remorse is so hateful that it actually makes the music interesting because of that. Charles Manson was actually a decent folk musician, but a big part of the reason why he's worth listening to is because he's Charles Manson.
When I was a kid I liked the song Last Train Home by Lostprophets. Now that we know it was written by a sociopathic pedo, it makes the song feel a little weird. But it's a great song, so I will listen to it and try to get past the source
You’ve never read Barthes.
honestly... no... fuck gg allin's gross ass
literally loled
>Skrewdriver
There's barely any songs on youtube them/him whoever skrewdriver is. Was it removed because or are they that underground?
Yes
>nazism
>art
pick one
Ha ha. But on a serious note, if you can’t enjoy great art because the artist has views you don’t like you are a fucking pleb (not (you) btw, I’m just replying to you cos your post cracked me up). Several of my favourite albums have very commie lyrics and despite being against mass murder I still love them.

Wasting time and dulling the sense of anxiety I have over the thought that I might not achieve my goals. Which of course just makes things worse, since I'm not getting the shit done that I need to. But thanks
I rate art as if it spontaneously came into being out of the aether.
What in God's cock is that?
average white american
You're ethnically Jewish whether you like it or not. Its quite obvious as your verbose post exudes from inclusivity of all, but don't beat yourself up about that.

You pretty much have to if you want to enjoy anything. All artists are fucked up to a certain extent.
Literally doesn't, she has Central European (German/Belgian/etc.) features.
Youtube had every album a few months ago they deleted 95% of nazi rock after the Tarrant shooting or something

sure
what about those Gesualdo, the 15th century composer who murdered two people and made very beautiful and revolutionary music, and those like him?
no, i think he means by "horrible shit" their music
skrewdriver is terrible, it's rudimentary punk
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the subcultural importance of Skrewdriver. Those guys singlehandedly electrified an entire movement, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the songs will go over a typical listener's head. Punk Press has always been nothing more than self-appointed gatekeepers and glorified tastemakers who astroturf whatever horseshit caters to their political sensibilities. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realize that they say something deep about LIFE.
As a consequence people who dislike Skrewdriver truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the jangly, sloppy, soulful, sentimental (but not cloying) Rock'n'Roll full of goosestepping drums, hard truths, rusty stabbed-in-an-alleyway production and basslines that’ll make you wonder what's the big deal about every other plunky bassist everyone talks up from all the post-punk bands at the time. And of course Ian’s voice was stupidly larger-than-life, one part Louis Armstrong, one part crusty British gentleman. Skrewdriver is what Oi! should sound like.
What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Skrewdriver tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the aryan ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
In 90% of cases, yes.
In the case of Ian Watkins, no. Never.
